My day was was comfortable, but a little disheartening
Pros:

The staff was very friendly, professional, and courteous

Cons:

I have stayed at this facility several times mostly in the historic side of the hotel. However, this time I was assigned the manor side of the hotel. It seemed to me in comparison that the manor side was for the help in the day. The rooms were small. The bathrooms were small. They weren’t as nice as a historic side the beds, although comfortable were not the quality of the historic side They didn’t have pretty scenes outside. Not even a nice cityscape. We had some problems with the rooms. However, the staff did take care of them immediately to our satisfaction, they explained what the problem was and how they fixed it. From now on with scheduling a room I want to confirm that I have a historic side where I don’t wanna stay at all. I was there with a girlfriend whom I had talked this hotel up to and I was very disappointed and somewhat embarrassed in the room that we got on the manor side she even even though this was her first day was a little disappointed in it after how I had talked up the hotel that we were stuck in a room that was pretty much like any other midgrade hotel

Grand!
Pros:

We will definitely be back! Our stay was excellent—the staff was wonderful, and the accommodations were beautiful.

I’ll admit, before arriving I read about the hotel’s “haunting,” and I was so busy overthinking it that when the elevator doors suddenly opened and revealed one completely innocent person waiting to get on, I screamed like I’d just discovered the ghost.

Naturally, I then tried to explain my overactive startle reflex and looping brain… which only made things worse. She very politely ignored me, as one does when trapped with a stranger who appears to be negotiating with invisible spirits.

For the record, I’m not crazy—I just don’t enjoy scary movies or ghosts. Thankfully, I had my rosary with me. Honestly, the only thing that truly frightened me all weekend was catching my reflection in the mirror after a week of vacation eating.

The hotel, however, was absolutely grand, beautiful, comfortable, and completely worth the visit. Ghosts: 0 stars. Hotel: 5 stars.

Read House does not disappoint, I felt like Daddy Warbucks, thank you Barry!
Pros:

I arrived after a six hour drive over the mountains from N.C. and was promptly welcomed at the curb by Valet Service, youthful, energetic, accommodating, I was assisted to the lobby Front Desk where I was greeted by David, a model of professional courtesy and charm, the room 802, a corner room with three large windows, well appointed, generous bathroom beautifully renovated, Housekeeping offered punctual, courteous, hospitality, first night dinner in the Hotel's outstanding Restaurant was a special surprise, we were served by the 'resident spirit of the Read House Hotel,' "Barry" who whipped our table around at a banquet so that we might enjoy each other's intimate company, the food was delicious, my compliments to the Chef, the service incredible, no eatery in the same price point provided the value or quality as at the Read House, the place was packed, the next time we were there, so we were invited to sit at the bar where we were blessed with "Barry" who once again made us feel so very much at home and punctuated our evening with magnanimous service, again the food was extraordinary, I will take all meals here the next time, between the Valet's infectious good humor, David's welcoming presence, and "Barry's" overarching dynamism and brilliant talent brought our evening to life, '1920' is alive and well here. Loved everyone and everything!

Cons:

Need a designated florist, for a spectacular 'Flower on a Wire', Someone to deliver helium filled balloons, Restaurant referrals of the caliber of that in the Hotel, not referrals of the top of the head, but places vetted for quality and value at whatever price point, put trainees in the lounge who at least know better than to pour champagne from the air, very entertaining to be sure

It was in a great area very clean outside. The hotel was amazing a lot of history.

I love the woodwork, the chandeliers, especially the book area was great. the staff was amazing. The girls in the bar area look so pretty in their roaring 20s outfit. The story of the hotel throughout the years. Thank you for a great stay.
