Good location, comfortable bed, clean room, clean towels, overall good facilities.
Toilet far too low for anyone with knee or hip problems , or elderly.
Staff helpful0
Everything was excellent, staff helpful and friendly, breakfast ideal for what we paid, and plenty of it too. Bed comfy, room cleaned every day which was great.
Haha, just the cost of 2 mini bottles of Prosecco
Nice location and good breakfast
Lifts in the hotel was out of order.
The staff were very helpful. Hotel was clean. Great variety of breakfast. Superb Location.
The Lift was Out Of Order
Breakfast - good choice. The room was great - well thought-out and comfortable. Great shower, TV, bed, desk for work etc. Maybe the sofa was a little tatty.
Breakfast - it would be great if you provide veggie bacon/ sausages. Maybe you do? If you do, it would be good to know. Maybe the sofa was a little tatty. I ordered 'Singapore Noodles' for my evening meal - it was fine. I wouldn't expect an authentic Singaporean meal but my criticism is that the portion size was very small. I'm not a big eater at all but I had to order a bowl of chops afterwards as I was still hungry.
Nothing in particular
Lift not working for entire period of stay (two nights) Drinks dispenser in reception not working. Selected car park as one of criteria filters when choosing hotel in area, found extra charge for car park on arrival then discovered there was no space available and had to park in the street. Have used IHG all over world for business as former platinum member, disappointed with what was provided on this occasion.
Good location, walking distance to everywhere. Pay Parking onsite however limited spots, first come first served. Lift was broken but we were thankfully only on level 1.
Housekeeping—the room was clean, thanks.
Note on Location: For other travelers, please note that the hotel is not near the rail stations (Cardiff Central or Cardiff Queen) and is quite far from Cardiff Castle.
During our stay, we had a very uncomfortable experience due to several significant issues.
1. The Elevator Issue
The first point is the non-working elevator. We had read about this in reviews from April, but we never imagined that a 3-star hotel—especially one associated with the Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express brands—couldn’t solve this issue over such a long period. Even in May, the elevator was still not working. Our room was on the 2nd or 3rd floor, and it was extremely difficult to climb the stairs with luggage during check-in and check-out, as well as for breakfast and after long days of hiking. This is also a serious accessibility issue for people with limited mobility.
2. Relaxed atmosphere among staff
The second issue was the overly relaxed and unprofessional atmosphere among the staff (with the exception of housekeeping—the room was clean). For example, the reception desk was frequently unattended. We had to wait every time we needed assistance, which is especially frustrating during check-out when time is limited.
Another example was the breakfast service. We went downstairs at 7:20 AM, but there were no omelets or scrambled eggs; the bowl was completely empty. There was no staff in the breakfast area or at reception. Like most guests, we were on a tight schedule. I eventually had to find a staff member in the kitchen to report the problem. Even then, the eggs were added only after 10–15 minutes. This delay wouldn't happen if the workflow were properly organized (e.g., proactive monitoring and cooking in advance).
3. Insecure Luggage Storage
Third, the luggage storage was simply an unlocked conference room that anyone could enter. The staff didn't tag or count our bags, and nobody checked when we went to retrieve them. Having traveled extensively, we know this is not standard practice; it felt quite irresponsible.
Overall, we felt this hotel did not live up to the standards of the Holiday Inn/Holiday Inn Express brand or 3-star hotel.
The receptionists were very friendly and polite. The room was clean and the water view was amazing.
There was no small fridge to put water , but that was not a huge problem because we stayed only one night. The bed was so soft and I couldn't sleep.
