Beautiful hotel full of character, comfort, and charm.
Pros:

I loved how much character the hotel had, and our room was super cozy! The staff was super friendly, and it was really nice having a Starbucks in the lobby! The staff also offered recommendations, which were great to have. And the hotel discounts offered at local establishments near by were an unexpected bonus!

Cons:

The remote in our room wasn't working quite right when we were trying to arrow over/up/down to log in or search things to watch. We got really frustrated and ended up just giving up and playing Yahtzee instead.

Cons:

Elendig service. Elendig frokost, overfakturering. Forhåndsbetalt pris for rom/frokost/tax ble forsøkt øket med 80 dollar. Klissete frokosttallerken ble fakturert med 30 dollar ekstra for to kopper kaffe og 2 glass juice. Dårligste opplevelse av alle hoteller denne ferien.

Nice stay. Enjoyed our time and glad we stay here.
Pros:

Loved our stay. Very historic hotel. Four US presidents have stayed here as well as the cast from North by Northwest.

Cons:

Didn’t serve breakfast until 8. Parking is a bit of a mess.

We always stay here. We like dinner and drinks on the rooftop. We like the easy walks to other downtown locations. And we like its historic feel.

An interesting experience
Pros:

Hotel history, atmosphere, and location are top.

Cons:

Booked the room w/ breakfast. The hotel has an arrangement with the attached pub to serve/order breakfast and then it comes off your bill. However, two of the three breakfast days were not taken off the bill. Breakfast drinks (i.e. coffee, juice, etc.) are not covered and paid out-of-pocket. Get an itemized bill and verify breakfast actually comes off. A daily marketing fee is also added (apparently a state thing). The hotel should do a better job at ensuring what is covered and what is not.

Cons:

We were extremely disappointed with our stay at Hotel Alex Johnson in Rapid City.

When we arrived, our room had a serious bug problem, and the cleanliness was far below acceptable standards. We even found body hair left on a shelf inside the shower, which clearly indicated that the bathroom had not been properly cleaned before our arrival.

We reported these issues to the front desk, but the response was even more disappointing. The staff member acknowledged that the south wing of the hotel, where our room was located, was known to have more bugs and suggested that this was something to be expected. Regarding the cleanliness issue, she simply said she would report it to housekeeping, but no solution, assistance, or compensation was offered.

What frustrated us most was the complete lack of concern and willingness to resolve the situation. It is unacceptable for a hotel to acknowledge these conditions as normal rather than taking action to ensure guests have a clean and comfortable stay.

Overall, this was a very unpleasant experience, and we would absolutely never stay at this hotel again. We would not recommend it to anyone.

Great location. Wouldn’t stay again.
Pros:

The lobby, mercantile, and rooftop space were nice.

Cons:

Staff seemed tired and short with us. The outside pub seating was opposite valet parking, so flashers were directed into our eyes. Out of fish and chips at a pub. Other food mediocre. Staff said there was nothing they could do. We didn’t have enough towels.

Pros:

Enjoyed less than we’d expected, reception staff not that helpful and didn’t understand Hilton member benefits, multiple issues on a 1-night stay invoice. Air con extremely noisy. Great location though.
