Location. Great beds comfortable pillows.
Good Housekeeping Also. Liked the
History of the building. And the building itself
Didn't like that they took the food from the second floor in the elevator to the restaurant with no covers on the food.!!!!
Mix up at check in. Was pretty annoying, staff was lost on it.
Great location & fun historical hotel. We had air conditioning problems in our room 702 which made for a hot & miserable night. Pub downstairs was fun with a great burger. But not sure I would recommend based on our experience with the air problems.
This is the second time I've stayed at the Alex. If you want a really new hotel, you shouldn't stay here, BUT you will miss a lot of charm and history. The rooms I've had are spacious, clean and very comfortable. The service is impeccable. Everyone is helpful and very, very accommodating. If your schedule allows, be sure to eat at the roof top restaurant. The view is excellent, the food is well prepared and served, and I can't believe how reasonably priced it is! Great farm to table offerings.
Central location good friendly staff
Bedroom too small I had to sleep with my luggage on the bed.
Struttura storica conservata come un tempo (arredi e complementi della hall). Posizione comodissima. Stanza pulitissima e molto spaziosa.
Il rapporto qualità prezzo: seppur ottimo hotel, è leggermente caro. Ristorante sopravvalutato e caro.
This hotel looked like I expected South Dakota to look. They even offered a brochure detailing the history and that it was built to bring tourism to the area. Located in the heart of downtown, this is where you want to be if you plan to walk to the best restaurants and visit the town square for live events and ice cream.
We enjoyed cocktails on both rooftops, even though it was a bit windy. The fire tables helped and provided additional ambience. We also had a delicious dinner at the restaurant.
On the downside the hotel is more expensive than others in the area. The room and bathroom were small, and there is no parking nearby.

We stayed in a Junior Suite and apparently ended up with an accessible room. That worked out just fine for us. The roll-in shower was actually very nice, and the larger bathroom made the space feel even more comfortable.
The bed was exceptionally comfortable, and we appreciated having a coffee maker, microwave, and mini refrigerator in the room. The suite was spacious and had everything we needed for a pleasant stay.
The only issue we had was with the air conditioner, which was positioned so that it blew directly onto the bed. It wasn’t a major problem, but it was noticeable.
The location is very convenient and within easy reach of downtown attractions, restaurants, and shops. Be aware that valet parking is available but expensive at $28 per night.
The hotel had a lot of history and was in a good location.
The room was very small and the air-conditioning was noisy and didn't work that well.
We stayed on the 9th level and the presidents suite which was 2 rooms and a huge living room with full kitchen. It has been fully renovated and the bed was comfortable. The staff was very nice on check in.
While our room was clean and recently renovated, several aspects of the accommodations were disappointing. Despite the room being large enough to accommodate a larger bed, it was only furnished with a double bed rather than a queen. More importantly, the only window in the room was frosted; it could not be opened, and it offered no view of the outside. We found this completely unacceptable for this hotel.
Additionally, there was a constant noise—likely from a ventilation system—near our wall that disturbed our stay.
When we mentioned these issues at checkout, the staff member simply suggested that we should request a room with a view next time. We found this response to be quite dismissive of our concerns.
Whoever the lady was who worked the front desk on June 10, 2026 around 12:30/1:00 pm, you were INCREDIBLY rude to my 60+ year old mother on the phone and made her very upset when she was trying to make a one day change to her reservations for a very special event we are attending. Management, please check on your employee. Front desk’s one and only job is hospitality.
Beautiful lobby and the layout of our suite with 2 bedrooms. 3 beds and a shared bathroom along with windows with lots of light. The hotel offers a great location.
Super fancy, downtown, excellent experience!

Location
Room wax very small and tight - looked nothing like photos on website
Nice hotel, helpful reception and good lifts. $15 each allowance for Starbucks at breakfast which was plenty. Rapid city isn’t very big and this hotel is fine to explore the town.
Paddy O’Neills bar, which is part of the hotel, and recommended by reception, was disappointing and not family friendly - service was poor, it took the waiter a long time to take our order, and food below average, was by far our worst meal during a 2 week visit to the US. Mixed selection of very loud music. Noticeable amount of street drinkers in and around Paddy O’Neills, which could make people/ families feel uncomfortable, and we only had one brief meal in there before moving on.
If driving check parking out, weekends seem fine, there is a big car park near the hotel which is free at weekends, but weekdays could work out expensive and we couldn’t pay the meter on a Sunday night so had to go out and pay at 7am on a Monday.
