The Inn at the Union Club of British Columbia

Ansonsten ist das Zimmer untere Mittelklasse (durchgelegene Matratze, undichte Fenster und der Teppich hat einen sehr starken unangenehmen eigengeruch). Man zahlt wirklich nur für die Lage.

Nothing.

Beat up room interiors..carpet smell...shower water mixer (hot/cold) not properly working..dress code for restaurant.. construction right outside of the room..no in room coffee..

We had difficulty getting a cup of tea on arrival because the complimentary hot water machine had run out of water and there were no mugs or saucers for cups available. We were disappointed not to be able to have a meal in the main dining room on either of the nights we stayed .

1) flight of steps to front entrance difficult with suitcases.
2) room was quite tight for two people. E.g. one side of bed had no side table or light as not enough room.
3) had a fridge in the room that seemed a bit unnecessary, but no tea or coffee making facilities. Fridge was noisy every few minutes through the night. Had to unplug it in the end.hood

Parking was off site, slightly musty smell in lower level.

No slipper, ac, bathtub, courtyard is full of construction materials, bathroom door doesn’t close properly, the bathroom light switches is at the far wall of bathroom, toilet bowl is cracked, curtains not fully closed, light penetration though the opening, no bathroom fan.

Tiny room, windows looking out at roof and workers on roof from 07:30 so had to keep currents drawn.
Appreciate age of building and work needed doing. Also mouse running around in reading room, did tell staff just to make them aware.

My friend and I made a last-minute booking at The Inn at the Union Club of British Columbia as the final stop on a road trip around Vancouver Island. We chose the hotel based on the photographs and good rating and were happy to make a non-refundable booking. However, it was only after the booking had been made that we received an email from the hotel informing us of a formal dress code.
As we had spent the trip hiking, we simply did not have formal clothing with us. Had this requirement been made clear before booking, we absolutely would have chosen somewhere else. By the time we found out, our booking was non-refundable, leaving us with very little choice.
On arrival, there was an intimidating sign at the entrance listing much of what we were wearing as prohibited, and we were told which areas of the hotel we could and could not access in our clothing. This immediately made us feel uncomfortable and unwelcome. Rather than being able to relax and enjoy the hotel, we spent most of the evening out and returned late, exhausted, simply to shower and go to bed.
Unfortunately, the experience got worse. At around 10:45pm, while getting into bed, we noticed a small bug crawling on the bedding. I cannot say whether it was a bed bug or another type of insect, but naturally this was concerning. We reported it to reception, who offered to move us to another room, but advised that we needed to do so before their shift ended at 11pm. Given that we were already exhausted, dressed for bed and had only just discovered the issue, we searched the bedding and ultimately decided to stay put. We left very early the following morning.
The room itself also felt considerably more dated than it appeared in the online photographs.
I appreciate that this is a hotel with a particular atmosphere and clientele, and it may suit guests who are aware of and comfortable with its traditions and dress requirements. However, I feel that these requirements should be made clear before booking

There was nothing wrong with it! I just wasn’t overly impressed. It was a bit small maybe.

Hot in summer without air conditioning

Al no ser hotel, no tiene conserje, porteadores etc. Tardsn mucho en hacer la habitación por las mañanas.

Nothing.

No air conditioning and the fan was so noisy, but it did drown out any street noise as we had to have the windows open in hopes of a cool breeze at night.
