Location -it was beautifully quiet- staff were amazing
It’s looking a bit tired. The air conditioning was very noisy in the room.
This hotel has really gone downhill over the years. It is in desperate need of maintenance and renovation. To start, the air con in numerous rooms does not work. Granted I'm here during a heat wave but it's not an excuse. I spoke to many of my colleagues all staying here and they report similar issues. I asked for maintenance and they've done nothing. When I checked into my room, it had not been properly cleaned. Hair in the shower and worse, shaving clippings all over the sink faucet. Disgusting. The shower itself is missing a door. No, this isn't a European shower "half" door. This is a missing, door where there is clearly a roller track and seal meant for a door. It probably broke and they just couldnt bother to replace it.
I asked for a new room but they said they couldnt accommodate because the hotel was full. I asked for maintenance at 5pm but maintenance had already left for the day (at 5pm!). Asked for housekeeping but also gone at 5pm. Asked for the manager but she was also gone at 5pm. The manager should be ashamed of how this hotel is being run.
I witnessed another woman very irate at the front desk reporting AC problems and other issues too.
The one saving grace was OJ, a man at the front desk who personally came to clean the hair in my room. He is trying his best to pick up the slack! Again, the manager should be ashamed that front desk staff have to come clean a room.
Avoid this hotel!
I don’t typically write reviews, good or bad, but this experience genuinely bothered me.
Having grown up in the hotel and condo industry, I understand that difficult guest situations happen and that some things are beyond a hotel’s control. However, in every situation, guest service representatives should show compassion, acknowledge legitimate issues, and make a genuine effort to help. Unfortunately, that did not happen here.
I stayed at the Hilton Islington London while attending meetings at the London Business Design Centre, which is literally just steps away from the hotel. For that purpose, the location is excellent and incredibly convenient.
I booked two rooms- mine being an Executive King Suite at an average nightly rate of £558.40, totaling £2,233.63 for a four-night stay for that room. The suite itself was spacious, but the rooms are clearly dated. There was visible dust throughout, mold around the basin and tub areas, dim lighting, and the in-room mini fridge barely cooled anything. The bottled water inside was slightly above room temperature. While disappointing at this price point, these were things I could have overlooked.
The biggest issue, and ultimately the dealbreaker for me, was the air conditioning or absence thereof. Notably the hotel advertises room Air Conditioning for guest comfort as an amenity.
London is currently experiencing warmer summer temperatures, which I obviously understand is not the hotel’s fault. What is unacceptable is that the A/C system in the rooms simply were not working properly. Multiple attendees at the conference who were also staying at the hotel were complaining about the exact same issue. The running commentary during the conference about the issues referred to the hotel as “the sauna”! The room temperature felt easily 82°F (28°C) or hotter, with virtually no air circulation in a sealed room.
I contacted the front desk to ask if the A/C could be checked and was told there was nothing they could do about it. I then asked about changing rooms, but was informed the hotel was fully booked. Trying to stay flexible and reasonable, I asked if they could at least open the single window in my room to allow cooler night air inside. Other guests, including a colleague staying at the hotel at the same time, confirmed that their windows could be opened. Mine apparently could not because it had a key lock.
What made this especially frustrating was that the window clearly had a keyed lock and a security cable that would have safely limited how far it could open, yet no effort was made to assist and presumably the hotel have the key……
I then asked whether the hotel could arrange accommodations at another nearby property due to the unbearable heat. That request was also refused.
Finally, when I asked, “Is there anything you can do? The heat is unbearable,” I was told that perhaps a discount could be offered, but that I would need to come back to reception the next day (between 9-2- the time I’d be in my meetings) and speak with “Zack” to find out if that would even be possible.
The staff member I dealt with, was not overtly rude, but he appeared completely disinterested in helping or finding any meaningful solution. Whether he was simply following instructions or genuinely did not care, the result was the same: no empathy, no urgency, and no real customer service.
To make matters worse, I am currently staying at the hotel as I write this review, and while dealing with this situation I overheard another guest outside my door complaining to a staff member about how unbearably hot the rooms were and how it was nearly impossible to sleep in those conditions. That further confirmed for me this was clearly not an isolated issue or a one-off problem with my room. It appears to be a known issue affecting multiple guests throughout the hotel.
For a hotel charging these rates under the Hilton name, this experience was extremely disappointing. The location is great, but between the outdated rooms, poor maintenance, and unacceptable handling of a serious comfort issue, I would not recommend staying here.
No ac in certain rooms. Was not told that. Stayed in Sept. 2025 and tonight in May. Back in Sept. they said AC was broke. They admitted tonight only certain rooms have AC. My room is unbearably hot. Cannot sleep there. Was offered a fan. Not acceptable. I am now sleeping in the lobby
My room on floor 4 (top floor) was lovely and spacious, with outward looking views across London rooftops. The staff were very efficient and friendly, and the food great. I would return!
Friendly staff (Jak etal), good location, spacious room with excellent pillows and easy to use shower with fast hot water, excellent self serve breakfast with eggs made to order.
Bed springs not as easy on the spine
Proximity to my event
Parking charges are extortion
Cleanliness
First time staying here, and I was incredibly impressed! Was given a complimentary upgrade the day before my stay and the room was lovely, clean and spacious, aswell as modern.
The Executive Lounge was also very nice, with beverages and snacks available there at all times (sadly didn't get a chance to make use of the Happy Hour in the evening though).
The breakfast team, especially Jamie and Kyuhee, were all so attentive, not only to me, but to all the guests and they always had a smile on their face. If I am around the area again, I would definitely choose to stay here again!
Location
A little impersonal
Professionalism of staff
Room could have done with having a bath x I suffer with osteoporosis so a bath after a hard days walking in London would have been great x
Location perfect, very friendly and helpful staff
Room not replenished with tea and coffee, although the reception desk sorted this
