Enjoyed our stay but a warmer welcome and improvements to parking would make a big difference
Pros:

We stayed here for our anniversary and overall had a lovely experience. The hotel itself is beautiful, very clean, and our room was extremely comfortable. It’s clear a lot of care goes in to maintaining the hotel and we really enjoyed our stay.

Cons:

The welcome at reception let things down slightly. When we arrived, none of the 3 staff members looked up from their computers and the gentleman who eventually checked us in seemed very unhappy to be doing so. It made for quite an awkward first impression and honestly left us feeling uncomfortable about approaching reception for anything afterwards, which is a shame because the hotel itself is so lovely.

The car park was also disappointing for the price. At £15 per day, it didn’t feel particularly worthwhile- the spaces are very limited, it’s awkward to manoeuvre in and out of, and staff vehicles also seemed to be using the same small area. For anyone staying, I’d probably recommend using Nunnery Lane Car Park; although it’s slightly more expensive, it’s much easier to access and far less stressful.

Really nice stay!
Pros:

I’ve stayed here around 4-5 times and I love the cosy vibes of the rooms. The hotel is really clean and close to the town centre.

Cons:

It can be quite expensive but if you book during a weekday it’s usually a decent price!

Pros:

We do love the location, gardens and staff.

Cons:

We were in Room 18 and it was quite dusty. I had to clean the kettle and tray before I used it. The little sachets of sugar must have been there for a very long time as they were very flat and only 4 sachets in total. There were several spiders webs in the bathroom around the bottom of the towel rail. We have stayed at the Middleton at least 10 times and not experienced this before

Great hotel in a perfect location, away from the crowds but 10min walk into the centre.
Pros:

Lovely communal areas, period properties and gardens. We had lunch from the bar menu which was very good. Staff were friendly and provided great service. Car parking was good. We stayed in a comfy double, older style bedroom. It was a very large room with en-suite with bath and a shower. Peaceful location. Great extras like sleep set.

Cons:

Bed was soft, we kept rolling into the middle.

Very comfortable and restful stay
Pros:

An oasis in the centre of the city, so easy to get everywhere in York and has lovely spaces , both inside and out to enjoy. So lovely to have a proper lounge area to meet friends in, with a variety of seating.

Cons:

There was nothing to dislike, being very nit picky a couple of hooks in the bathroom to hang towels would have been great and a shower mat would have been lovely, but a small towel worked as well

Would book again - great for visiting the city
Pros:

Breakfast excellent, dinner excellent - mushroom linguine best of anywhere and steak perfect. Distance to city centre easily walkable and parked at the hotel (got there early). Staff lovely, professional, helpful. Nice bar area. Fridge in room stocked with fresh milk and bottled water. Temperature in room easily adjustable. Wonderful pillows!

Cons:

No complaints! Shower a little small and ensuite floor a little slippery. Not cheap and parking extra.

Pros:

Really appreciated the location and relaxed atmosphere in a delightful setting.
Pros:

Very happy that it was traditional, with excellent staff and many extra touches to add enjoyment.

Cons:

Very annoyed that I couldn’t get a lighter quilt. 10.5 tog is very warm & I would expect the choice of a summer quilt on request.
