The breakfast was exceptional, a wonderful choice and the service was friendly and polite. We had reason to ask for a maintenance person for something very minor. It was absolutely no problem and was sorted at our convenience. The hotel is perfectly located to leave your car parked safely and securely in the hotel car park for the duration of your stay and explore York comfortably on foot, which for us, is important. The hotel itself had a wonderful comfortable atmosphere in the communal areas and was overall very peaceful and private.
We booked a premier room which in the photos looked quite sizable. It was a lot smaller than i anticipated but it was very comfortable. We booked what was described as an extra large double bed which turned out to be two beds made up as one. One mattress was better than the other. However we did still enjoy a good nights sleep.

Beautiful historic hospital and alms house sympathetically converted into a hotel. I was upgraded to a suite in the old part of the building, which was lovely. The room was large, beautifully furnished and extremely well equipped. The bed was massive and incredibly comfortable. Lovely toiletries in the bathroom. I ate in the restaurant, which was tasty and good value. There is a large fully equipped gym on site, which guests can use also. Excellent location, just 10 minutes from the station and the city centre.

Parking was hit and miss , if you got there early you could park car but the minute you drive any where you can’t park when you get back , main car park around the corner is £25 per day , restaurant not very good limited menu , and expensive , better off going into town and find better options

The location is excellent especially if you have a car as there is a car park
Building works going on. Thankfully they didn’t start until 9am however the builders were talking outside our room from 8am onwards. They continued until 6pm at night. A heads up when booking would have been welcomed
Our room was not cleaned, apparently we should have been asked when we checked in but we weren’t. We were also locked out, both sets of gates were padlocked upon our return on Monday evening. We had to ring the reception to get someone to help us and when they did eventually work out what the padlock number was ( took about 15 mins from start to finish, the was a cursory sorry then they walked ahead of us. A complimentary drink or something along those lines would have been a welcomed as as sign that this was an inconvenience to us
