Thoroughly enjoyed our second stay here. The grounds are so well maintained, relaxing and picturesque. The veranda was perfect for enjoying a drink in the sunshine. The staff were super helpful and we felt well looked after. The spa treatments were excellent. Bronwen has magic hands ! And the chill out room was lovely. Would highly recommend staying here.
This was our second visit to De Vere Tortworth Court and yet again we were not disappointed. Lovely and friendly staff all round, our room was lovely with views to the lake and our bed was comfortable so much so so we slept like babies.
My massage was excellent and I felt relaxed all day.
Alex made our dining experience exceptional and he catered well to our needs. Breakfast was lovely and yet again the staff catered to our needs. I asked for my egg yoke to be well done and in no time it was on my table.
The grounds around the hotel is brilliant for walks which we did each morning after breakfast.
Looking forward to our next visit hopefully in the summer.
Stayed March 2026
We had a mixed experience. On the positive side, the grounds are beautiful and the Penhaligon’s toiletries were a lovely touch—definitely in line with what you’d expect from a hotel of this level.
However, we were extremely disappointed with the handling of a lost item. After leaving the property we realised that we accidentally left an expensive jacket and cap in the wardrobe. We called the hotel immediately on the same day - check out day - and we were on our way back to retrieve them, but were told Lost & Found wouldn’t open until 9 AM next morning. I then returned in person the next morning and waited around 40 minutes, only to be told that nothing had been found.
We made multiple attempts to follow up—calling reception several times (without success) and submitting a message via the website contact form, which also went unanswered. The lack of urgency and communication regarding high-value lost property was frustrating and concerning.
There were also some comfort issues. Our room in the mansion had noticeable noise from external ventilation, and the windows were too thin to block it out, which impacted our stay.
While the setting and some details are impressive, the customer service and handling of situations like this fell well below expectations. We understand that items can sometimes go missing, but the response and lack of follow-up were disappointing. Guests should take extra care with their belongings.
Lovely grounds and friendly staff. Drinks on the terrace in the sunshine made our trip and the evening dinner in the main restaurant was delicious. However we were let down by the spa/pool facilities as they were quite dated and in need of a good clean. We stayed on a Saturday night, and unfortunately were kept awake from wedding guests on site, shouting loudly and swearing. Our room also was located near the kitchen’s industrial extractor fan which was running in to the early hours, which disturbed our sleep.
We like to stay a couple of times a year just to relax and be pampered. The beds are really comfortable and I slept extremely well. I think the massage, great food and drinks also helped with this. Look forward to coming back again later in the year.
Tortworth Court Hotel and grounds are stunningly beautiful. Our room was superb with magnificent views over the gardens to the lake and woodlands beyond. The dining areas are delightful serving delicious food, and the staff could not have been more welcoming. Overall our stay was a magical experience and we will certainly return.
Stayed 1 night. Beautiful place check in good. Super king bed was 2 mattresses zipped together that were different heights and firmness! A wafer thin mattress protector no topper so really uncomfortable 🥴. We booked a suite it was a sofa in an alcove I would have called it luxury room not suite!
No flannel shower cap vanity set ie cotton wool pads all of this can be purchased at reception! Apparently I could have rung down for a shower cap free of charge!
Breakfast- we were sat in the fireplace (as far away from breakfast station as possible) and the man said it’s self service round there! No telling us we had to take mug off table to self service area. No offer of pot of tea or cooked eggs to table! Scrambled eggs lukewarm warm bacon swimming in fat limited fruit options. No plates cleared off table so we ended up with a pile of plates in middle of table! They seemed more interested in setting up tables for lunch and afternoon tea!
Having read reviews this seems like a function hotel. There was a function on when we were there so sound levels were high in communal areas! So loud we chose to not eat at the hotel
My husband had e mailed the gm team re bed situation over a week no reply so resorted to expressing our views on here sadly
Such a beautiful hotel, wonderful setting and lovely grounds. Great Location with links to Motorway.
Delicious food and optional dining experiences.
Bedroom was in the main house, spacious, clean and comfortable. Great value for the overall experience. Spa facilities and treatment really great.
It could of been better , it was my mums 85th birthday, but I felt they were charging us for everything and never made her feel special , I had to pay for balloons pay for cork charge for a ham sandwich, there was one bar of chocolate for her , it cost me £310 for one night very disappointed on not even giving her a complementary drink at dinner sorry but I don't think I got my monies worth and they definitely didn't spoil her , breakfast was lovely.
From the moment you drive up, Tortworth Court feels special, the “Welcome” on the archway to the entrance I think, sums up exactly how you will be made to feel during your stay.
This is an historic building which is embracing many environmentally friendly actions - a win win.
Parking
Plenty of fee parking and also disability bays right near the hotel entrance.
Check in
Our check in was smooth and fairly quick even though they were busy, friendly reception staff explained all you need to start.
There is a lift in the main house too to all floors.
Take a moment to appreciate the beautiful staircase, decor and also De Vere gifts that you will want to take away.
Tip - bottled water is not left in your room but you can take your own bottle or purchase a De Vere water bottle (£2.50) to fill up at the various water stations, much better and you can have more water!
We chose the “My Happy Place” package which included dinner credit, breakfast and goodies delivered to the room: a large bottle of Silverhand Siver Reign organic sparkling brut, (ice bucket and glasses provided), 2 cans of 6 o clock G&T, 2 scrumptious slabs of chocolate, a carton of lemon shortbread and 2 full size Penhaligon bottles (shower gel and lotion) - worth every penny!
Room
We stayed in a suite in the Mansion House on the second floor - it was perfect with a view of the front driveway.
Thank you to Paul and Holly who ensured we had everything we needed.
Spotlessly clean room and bedding, very comfortable bed, the room had everything we needed, separate bath and walk in shower, hairdryer, cooler, wardrobe, safe, iron and ironing board, fan and Penhaligon toiletries.
Tip - we stayed in a Saturday and there a wedding, therefore we could hear the music from the Orangery across from the main building, but it was not a pro ke for us and lovey to watch.
If you like it quieter telephone and speak with reception to check and ask for a quiet location, the staff genuinely want to ensure your stay is a happy one.
Dinner in the 1853 Restaraunt
A beautiful dining room experience
I have to say we were thoroughly looked after by Romy, Holly and Ethan who discretely ensure everything is to your satisfaction - thank you so much.
I highly recommend the lamb, which was best I had ever tasted in my life!
So thoughtful to receive 2 complimentary glasses of sparkling to celebrate this as an early Mother’s Day trip.
Tip - I recommend booking your time slot ahead of arrival and can be arranged when booking your trip, we were contacted afterwards by the Restaraunt to confirm times - again another notable customer care action.
Breakfast
It was busy but is absolutely the best buffet breakfast I have experienced.
There is a good choice of continental and cooked items, juices, cereals, breads, toasting section, pastries, fruit, juices and beverage machines - great coffee!
The hot items are of such tasteful and high quality, which are continually checked and replenished.
The scrambled eggs are to a such a high and get 5/5 gold stars in my book.
Thank you to Ethan for looking after us, he is really passionate about making everyone feel looked after and going the extra mile.
Customer Care
Every single member of staff we encountered really do care about the guest experience first and foremost, this hotel is simply outstanding on every level.
Grounds
Stunning and a beautiful place to walk off your breakfast, rest at the outside table and simple enjoy the view.
Check out
Very smooth, Alex looked after us and was extremely helpful, thank you so much for everything you have done for us - we have had such a fantastic time we have booked to return again in a few weeks.
Final thoughts
Stunning location/grounds, outstanding hospitality, the lamb is worthy of a Michelin star, I cannot recommend this hotel and the staff highly enough, it really is the best hotel I have visited to date.
I visited the spa with my daughter, and we had a wonderful time. The swimming pool was warm, and we were lucky to visit on a quiet day, making the experience even more relaxing.
We had booked treatments, and the therapist was attentive and skilled. The whole team went out of their way to make my daughter feel special, as it was her very first spa visit. Thank you to everyone for such a memorable and enjoyable day!
A truly wonderful experience. We enjoyed the spa and thw Atrium bar but have to say Cody in the main restaurant was impressive. His professionalism and knowledge of the wines on offer was a real treat. He was so friendly and a joy to have host us. Many thanks
Very nice stay in the hotel. The rooms are a great size and the staff were very accommodating.
The breakfast was delicious
Visited the main restaurant for a 50th birthday meal. Was served by Cody who couldn’t do enough for us. Service and food was outstanding. The whole experience was superb. Highly recommend a visit and will be returning soon.
Amazing experience went here for my husband’s 50th for food Cody what our server for the night Cody looked after very polite young man overall experience
Lovely brilliant night thanks to Cody looking after us
De Vere is the best.
You are made so welcome and valued.
I visited the Spa and it is worth every penny really reasonable and the staff so caring.
Well worth a visit as I know you will go back because I do.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the wonderful team at Tortworth for making our wedding day so special. We got married here on Valentine’s Day 2026, and from start to finish the care and attention we received were exceptional.
Throughout the entire process, from booking our wedding to the end of the big day, the team ensured everything ran smoothly. We felt completely supported and well looked after, and at no point did we feel stressed as everything was handled so professionally. Our family and friends were also treated with the same level of care and respect, which meant a great deal to us.
The venue itself is absolutely beautiful, and the food was fantastic. Even though the hotel remained open to other guests, we never felt overlooked and still enjoyed a wonderful sense of privacy for our celebration.
If you are considering Tortworth as your wedding venue, we would highly recommend it. Thank you to the entire team for making our wedding day so seamless, stress-free and truly unforgettable. We couldn’t have wished for a better experience
We stayed here for 1 night to celebrate our wedding anniversary.
We wanted a quite bolt hole to relax, unwind & get away from busy day to day life.
We chose a suit for added comfort & booked a table in the man restaurant for our evening meal & breakfast the following day.
Upon arrival we couldn’t help but notice how busy it was, we stayed on a Saturday night - which we thought it would be fairly busy, when we got there the car park was almost full, there was an entire wedding party blocking the entrance area waiting to go into the orangery for their evening reception & all the bars were full with no seats available.
We decided to check in and go straight to our room. Check in was efficient and friendly, our room was lovely and clean, lots of added comforts which we really appreciated.
A few hours later we headed back down to the main bar to grab a few drinks prior to our meal which again was full, we then went for a walk around the grounds which were beautiful and then headed back to the bar which we fell lucky as a couple were leaving as we arrived.
The bar had a nice atmosphere but it was extremely busy the staff were friendly but clearly could do with a few more on to help, after waiting 20mins we finally managed to get a drink a few hours on after arrival!
We then headed over to the restaurant as it was getting late and our time slot was here.
The restaurant was very busy again with lots of big groups, the service was good when we got it but it did seem that the larger parties were taking priority, we did wait a while before our order was taken, when it was the bread for the table came quickly but before our drinks even came, then the starters were also brought out at the same time.
The doors was delicious, it just felt a little rushed, the main was instant as soon as we finished the starters, again service for drinks were slow, we didn’t leave the restaurant until gone 9:30pm, we arrived at 3:30pm in 6hours we only managed to get 3 rounds of drinks for the two of us.
The hotel it’s self was beautiful on appearance, however we did feel a high level clean throughout was needed. The Roman blinds in the library bar were heavy in dust, lots of the higher books were coated in dust, most of the artificial large trees were also heavy in dust and some light fittings too.
The next morning we went down for breakfast to be greeted with yet another que… we waited well over 10mins to be seated then we were told to go into the bar and we could have the same buffet style breakfast in there.
We took the offere and was seated, it was very warm in there & there wasn’t a great deal of hot food left, this was around 10:00 breakfast is till 10:30 on a Saturday, we got a few things and sat back down, to then one of the staff members started turning everything off meaning we couldn’t have anymore or a long leisurely breakfast which we always look forward to when going away.
All in all we had a nice stay, if we were to return we would avoid a weekend day as it was far too busy for us and heavily over run with children, given the style of hotel we just anticipated a much calmer, slower break than what we had.
The staff were great though and made the best of what they could do and offer with limited staff and space in bar areas.
I am a regular visitor of the Leaf spa at Tortworth and am always very impressed with how friendly and efficient the staff are. This week I had a massage with Laura- she listened to what I needed and managed to get rid of my knots and tightness. A fantastic massage that I would recommend.
Thanks again (I said it a few times when we were with you) for looking after us - an amazing weekend with 20 members of the Rose family gathering for our annual De Vere get away.
Attentive to so many things - the early morning cuppa after a dog walk, dietary needs and super smiley and efficient service.
Shout out to the Saturday night “waiting team”; Scott, Karen and Ethan who managed our table impeccably - you didn’t miss a beat and was staggered to hear you were a few “heads” down.
See you next year
