Excellent breakfast with plenty of choice. Outstanding staff from check in at reception, in the bar, at dinner in the evening and at breakfast, all of them were welcoming, exceptionally friendly and very efficient, a credit to the hotel and its management.

The hotel was very old which is what you would expect but I felt it needed a refresh inside.
Super friendly staff, we had a garden view which was lovely. Bed was really comfortable, tea,coffee and biscuits great The hotel is in a perfect location, we found everyone in Winchester to be friendly. Lots of lovely pubs and places to eat. The cathedral is a must

The hotel is an old building plus a newer extension, right in the centre of Winchester. It's very attractive on the outside and the communal areas in the old building are quite nice - hallway, reception, bar. At the back there's a really lovely garden which is a surprise. It's really pleasant to sit in and relax. We didn't have breakfast so can't comment on the restaurant. The staff were really helpful. We sat in the bar for a couple of hours in the evening and did a birthday cake for my mum who was 80. The receptionist found us plates, a knife, a lighter for candles and napkins. He really was super helpful. The bedroom was big and had everything we needed although it wasn't very exciting - a pretty plain hotel room. Everywhere was super clean.
The parking is really difficult. The car park at the hotel building is tight with just a few spaces. When you pull into it, it's hard to do a 3 point turn to get out again. Online it tells you about the overflow car park but we drove round twice and couldn't find it. It was really stressful. It would be helpful if the main car park had a sign and map directing you to the overflow. The overflow should have better signage to find it from the street - there is no sign visible from the road. And parking here is also awkward. I think it would be better to park in a regular Winchester car park that has overnight stays and just walk - it would be less stressful! There was at least a door from the back of the hotel to the overflow car park so you don't have to walk round the block. The room was perfectly adequate but it wasn't anything special. We looked out over the car park so that was pretty dull. The window had curtains but no blinds so you had to draw the curtains because you were overlooked by other properties. I think the bedroom could have done with a refresh too. It was impossible to work the TV! The only light we found in the bathroom had a fan attached to it so if you needed the light in the night it was noisy. Maybe there was another, but we never found it. Other than that, it was ok and we slept well!
The hotel is centrally located in Winchester, ideal for exploring the town centre, walkable to the cathedral and the station. The room was very comfortable and well equipped with a silent fan that was much appreciated in the heat. The breakfast was very good and there was a comfortable bar lounge area and a very pleasant garden to sit in.

Poor signal on TV, kept pixilating.
Very noisy person in room above me ie I thought there was an elephant in the room, woke me up several times through the night when they were walking around.

overall our stay was just ok, we felt that £161 per nt minus breakfast and having to pay £15 for parking was overpriced.

Trying to park! Beer was nice but expensive..but I am a northerner! The garden looked a bit neglected..I know it's been very hot and dry..but it didn't look like any effort was made with it.
The location was great. Staff was friendly.
The airconditioning was on in the breakfast room and it was actually way too cold. The interior of the rooms was not as nice as in the photos.
