Merry Manor Hotel
Pros:

We stopped here for one night as we traveled the Maine coast. Hotel is rather tired looking and needs refurbished. However, the staff were nice, hotel clean and pool area is huge with outdoor pool and indoor hot tub. Also included breakfast.

To much money for what we got.
Pros:

Staff was friendly and accommodating on a first floor room. However, I explained I had my 82 year old Nanna who had surgery in the am and were at the very end of the hall not close to an exit as requested.

Cons:

Beds weren’t comfortable, pillows were 1/2 a pillow literally. Room was far from clean found someone’s pill they must have dropped between the cabinet and fridge. Walls were paper thin, vending machine compressor kept us up all night. Overall just not great.

Good location - only a short drive to downtown Portland
Pros:

Great breakfast; good variety. The outdoor pool and indoor hot tub were great as was the gas fire pit by the pool. Comfortable bed and quiet location.

Cons:

Can't think of anything...

Pros:

Property was clean and only 10 minutes drive from downtown.

Cons:

A majority of the outlets in our room didn’t work so it was challenging to charge your phone. Outdated hotel that isn’t worth the price paid.

It was not the best stay I’ve had.
Pros:

The breakfast was good. the pool was alright. The staff was great. Landscape looked great.

Cons:

The carpet in the hallways needs to be kicked back in.. it’s an out dated hotel.. beds were not comfortable at all. Small rooms the whole building has an awkward smell to it. If they put in as much effort into the interior as they do the exterior it would be a halfway decent place to stay.

Pretty good hotel, especially for families w kids
Pros:

I stayed here after several years staying at the Fireside Inn and Suites, equally close to Portland (in a different direction), and considerably less expensive--so it was interesting to compare. The main thing I like is an outdoor pool, which both hotels have. The one here at Best Western is warmer, which is nice, but the Fireside Pool is (barely) warm enough in the heat of summer. Fireside pool is also less crowded and --important!--has some umbrellas for shade, also some areas where you can sit at shaded tables and work. I love this; i'm a writer, and sometimes sit there for a long time. BW has no shade at all, no umbrellas and no place to sit at a table and work, so for that reason I'd pick Fireside for pool. That said, BW pool is open late and full of people (mostly kids and young families), so if you like to be around people at night, this is the better one for that. There's also a fire pit that was on one night, which was nice after a swim, and nice for chatting with people.

The rooms at BW are a little nicer, but not much. The biggest plus is that the window can be opened a few inches, which is nice if you ever want a little breeze or fresh air. Fireside windows are basically bolted shut. (yuck) Both hotel rooms have some flaws, though. In my BW room, the toilet paper holder was falling off the wall and the outlets wouldn't hold a heavier plug (i.e. iPhone or computer cords) without being propped in. Both hotels have in-room fridge, microwave, and coffee maker. BW room had a little more space and an extra sink, which is nice, though not really necessary for me. I can't remember the pillows at Fireside, but BW has six small pillows on the (king) bed, all the same; even one larger or thicker one would've been nice for those who prefer a different kind.

BW has a breakfast until 10 .(Fireside gives out breakfast sandwiches at the desk--both (unfortunately) with meat, so I've never had them--and some other pretty unhealthy stuff, like granola bar equivalents). It's--the one at BW--a pretty standard American breakfast: egg-substitute (bad), pancake machine (fun but not sure I want to know what's in them), some cereals and like Nutella and Jif peanut butter. For me, it's not worth paying for this breakfast; i'd rather bring in fruit and nuts and pb I like, and eat it on my own time. But with kids, i can totally see why this would be a plus.

All in all, I think BW is probably better for families with kids, and Fireside, with its lower price and slightly better location, IMO (there's a diner very nearby, a great market a short drive away), might be better for someone like me, a single, middle-aged woman looking for a quieter pool with some shade. Tho i do love that the window here opens; rooms at Fireside can get extremely clammy in a way my room here didn't seem to.

Hope this helps!

Pros:

All staff was helpful and friendly( except for the first front desk staff seemed ready to be done with her shift)
Outdoor pool was large.
Appreciate adjoining rooms.

Cons:

Facility is really old.
Beds were worn out, too soft & uncomfortable.
The rooms they put us in weren't adjoining, even though staff insisted they were. Thankfully they were able to correct this.
Breakfast room was too small for the size of the hotel and # of guests.
Shower drain in one room was clogged. Thankfully they fixed this for our 2nd night.
Overall we paid a lot for the quality of the hotel.

Fantastic Best Western Choice
Pros:

Best Western 5 Star, wow, Fantastic staff, Fantastic, they were so nice and friendly. Great room, pet friendly, quiet, they had souvenir's in the lobby which really no one really has across the USA. Except of course for Love's Travel Stop. upper floor, weight room, pool area the daughter loved it. Close drive to Acadia National Park and the coastal drive. Great location period for what we required. Fantastic.

Disappointed
Pros:

The location is great! The staff is very professional and the breakfast selection was very good. Recyclable utensils and paper products could be upgraded.

The room needs upgrading because the bathroom door wouldn’t close completely and there was damage to the door hinge. Also, there was a leak in the ceiling and hair in the tub. Mattress was not completely comfortable and square pillows are bothersome. Normally, we find BW standards vary greatly and are not consistent from location to location.
