The property is seriously in need of rehabilitation. It’s stuck in the 70’s. The pool area is still nice but the rooms need a serious upgrade. The staff is nice and accommodating. The problem we ran into is the shower. When taking a shower it smelled horrible. It was like sewage. I reported it and nothing. They were sold out so moving rooms wasn’t an option. The AC wasn’t blowing cold but the maintenance man came up and fixed it. I told him of the shower problems and he said it was from years of hair and goo buildup in the old pipes. He put a bottle of drain opener and it did nothing. We’re very disappointed in the Encinitan as we’re have stayed there many times in the past. The location is perfect along with the parking but we’ll look elsewhere the next time for a more modern upgraded property.
Wish I'd checked the reviews before booking. The poor reviews are accurate. There's a reason they had rooms available last minute even with a decent view/location.
Room itself was decent. But the amenities and service are severely lacking.
On arrival I noticed there's no bar or restaurant on site. There's a "coming soon" sign on a place across from the entrance, but who knows how long that's been there. I see one other review from a month ago is commenting on the same thing...so there's that.
I asked for change for a $20 so I could tip housekeeping but they're a "cashless hotel" so no good there either. Not sure how that's gonna work with the "coming soon" restaurant if they don't take cash.
Hopped on the internet and it was under 2 megabits
speed, which won't even let me watch YouTube at over 480p. So I'm basically stuck in the year 2000. Meanwhile the internet died overnight and when I call the front desk they tell me it's my fault because it's working just fine on their personal phone. The issue is clearly that they haven't invested in a proper mesh network because the wifi shows 1 to zero bars of service, meaning they have rooms that just aren't close enough to their devices to get a good signal. My experience is a bit unique because I rely on something playing in order to sleep. So this internet issue also meant I was unable to get a full night's rest.
I paid over $400 for a single night here. I've paid less than half of that to stay down the street and had a better experience, which is what I'll do next time if I need a last minute room. This place is rated as a three star hotel but it should definitely be a two star, which is generous considering the better experience down the street is a two star.
The location was perfect to get to everywhere in encinitas.
The room was large and had a great view of the ocean
The price was very reasonable.
This hotel doesnt really have your typical "lobby" where you can join up with friends or family and mingle or have a cocktail. Its located in the parking garage. Poorly set up.
Also the location of the hotel is right by the train tracks which isnt mentioned in their bio or I might have not stayed here. It runs from 7 am all day until midnight and it is not quiet in any way shape or form.
The complimentary breakfast was located in a room at the pool house which was a little odd. I feel like something like that should be centrally located inside the hotel.
Overall the hotel is nice but definitely needs some sprucing up and updating.
Rooms were nice and comfortable
Breakfast was similar every day--maybe could switch a few things daily
The receptionist was really nice
The property is old and run down. The elevators were slow, the vending machines did not work, the room smelled funny and appeared unclean.
Beautiful
Location
Reception was not impressive. Front desk was cordial however the lobby wasn't new
Location only
Staff weren’t helpful, the keys kept stopping working to let us into the room, the third bed in our our room the pull out was extremely uncomfortable and I barely got any sleep.
The whole property was extremely run down and tired looking.
Awful. Old. Nothing special
Almost everything
Convenience to the event we were attending. Decent free breakfast.
No housekeeping during a two night stay. Old place. Had an old musty smell. Unpleasant to be inside due to the smell. Housekeeping used same elevators as guests with their large carts leaving little room.
The location is great, close to downtown Encinitas and the beach. The room was decent size with a large balcony, sliding doors with a screen so you could get fresh air all day. Private garage parking.
The front desk staff were just okay. I had to downgrade the room to a double as the sleeper sofa in the king suite I booked was awful. I was told it was a queen, it was a full. The mattress was likely the original one as it was so uncomfortable and loud. Like sleeping on a thin box spring. Of course because it was an online booking they wouldnt change the price. There is no restaurant on site. But they do serve continental breakfast. There is a gas station, market and restaurant within walking distance. All in all the hotel could use some updating. Signs of wear and tear pretty noticeable. Maybe add a snack bar in the lobby with drinks and snacks.
The view. Breakast. And the staff was very nice.
