Important information:

From 1st January 2023, a tourist tax of RM 10 per room per night is applied to all foreign guests. This tax is not included in the room rate and must be paid upon check-in. Guests with a valid Malaysian Identity Card or valid permanent residents MY PR Card are exempted. Effective 1 June 2014, the Penang State Government will be imposing a local government fee of MYR 3 per room per night, payable directly to the hotel upon check in.

Relaxing luxury & comfort. Would stay again!
Pros:

Excellent room, breakfast buffet and gym. The Concierge was also very helpful.

Cons:

Some of the restaurant staff couldn’t speak or understand English very well. Overall standard of waiters was average and not what we expected for such a high quality (and expensive) 5-Star hotel.

Staff went over and above - eg getting local drinks from downstairs area
An intern Irfan at Sarkies was particularly impressive.

Rather narrow driveway ( with relatively wide mediam strip ) in insite carpark

Pros:

The staff are exceptionally warm and charming. The Heritage Wing has an old world ambience with spacious rooms and comfortable surroundings. It looks Raffles-like, but it has a more homely-lived in feel. I really enjoyed staying here because of its understated character and tranquility.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of Georgetown.
Pros:

I requested a room with a full sea view which the staff kindly accommodated. The room was beautiful and I enjoyed spending time by the pool. Loved the bar and especially the E & O Sling. Yum.

Prima hotel als tussenstop, maar geen weekverblijf.
Pros:

Mooi vintage ogend hotel. Heel chique.
Goede ligging, leuk uitzicht.
Personeel is erg behulpzaam.
Erg goed bed en zeer ruime luxe badkamer.
Continental breakfast is ontspannen

Cons:

Wasservice vrij duur.
Kamer was niet super school, veel stof met opendoen van kastjes en laatjes.
Ze hebben 2 zwembaden maar je mag er maar 1 gebruiken.
Reguliere ontbijt is chaos, veel te druk en kwaliteit van het eten is niet geweldig.

The "E&O" is a Colonial Gem with Truly Excellent Food and Service.
Pros:

The "E&O" Hertage Wing is a colonial gem. Beautiful restored to its Victorian glory it is a truly first class experience. Our Corner Suite had a "Butler Service" and the room was so comfortable: living room, bedroom, and huge bathroom. Original fittings and a gorgeous sea view. Peaceful, classy and a slice of history. The service was impeccable and the quality of food in the "Palm Court" room was outstanding - try the Eggs Benedict! Unhurried but prompt, never overbearing, served with attention and style. This is an experience that so few hotels in the world know how to do.
Oh, and for a British person, it is delightful that they know how to make a great cup of English Tea! Served in a teapot with proper fresh milk (!)
The swimming pool is idyllic and late-afternoon wine and canapes in the "Cornwallis Room" are very popular. LOve this hotel!

Cons:

Arriving early at the pool, I found the attendant was a bit grumpy.

Location, space and nostalgia and the food was amazing

Cons:

Whilst our room was ready early which we loved, had to ask for enough towels for the people staying, our complementary bottle of wine was missing (we didn’t desperately want it, but was told it would be delivered) it never arrived.
