Was very bad experience in this hotel
Pros:

There were no breakfasts there. Location was good.

Cons:

A/c didn’t work
The toilet didn’t flush properly
Smell of urine outside the room.
Constant construction noice around.
Swimming pool too high above the ground. Needed to climb very many steps to get there.
Parking service bad; waited for 35 minutes to get the car and because of that was late for my meeting.

Overall it was just ok. I probably wouldn’t book here again though.
Pros:

The location was great. It had easy access to the beach, shops, restaurants, etc. The room itself was beautiful and the beds were very comfortable.

Cons:

The construction was really unfortunate. We paid for an oceanfront room and although we did get it we were literally right next to the construction so it was incredibly loud and our view was partially obstructed. They also informed us there would be a wedding on Friday night. We didn’t realize that meant the loudest music possible. We had a 3:45am wake up time to get to the airport so trying to sleep over the obnoxiously loud music was frustrating. Additionally, they required valet and assured us that there was 24/7 access. When we used the required text message system for our vehicle at 4am to get to the airport no one went to get our car, no one was at the stand, no staff was anywhere to be found for valet or hotel. We had to call several numbers who told us they weren’t open until 4:30. We were at risk of missing our flight. Finally someone came out of the library (I assume from sleeping) and retrieved our vehicle. It just wasn’t a very pleasant experience for the cost.

Dirty and Noisy. Would not recommend.
Pros:

Could probably be nice in 18 month. Currently akin to camping in a construction zone. Extremely dirty and noisy. Even the remodeled rooms were not near to a quality standard I would expect from a hotel of this price range.

Come for La Jolla, not this hotel
Cons:

We stayed here because the location is great, but there are a few things I wish we’d known before booking.

First, the hotel in many of the photos isn’t actually this hotel it’s the one next door. Also, that neighboring hotel is currently under major construction. Work starts promptly at 7:00 a.m. every morning and it’s loud… all day… until about 4:00 p.m. Sleeping in isn’t really an option.

Parking is $45 a day or you’re encouraged to find street parking. In theory, that’s nice. In reality, you’ll spend a good amount of time driving laps around La Jolla hoping someone leaves.

Also, be aware there is no elevator. We had an almost 80-year-old family member climbing steep stairs every day, and everyone has to carry their luggage up themselves. That’s something that should be much more obvious before booking.

The beach right across from the hotel is really just a cliff and the smell on the street is horrible from the seals and sea lions. They said over the phone it’s a short 5 minute drive to La Jolla shores beach where you can actually go in the water and hang out on the sand but with the traffic it’s more like 15 minutes of driving and 10 minutes to find parking.

I feel like we need a vacation from our vacation.

Beautiful but Very Very Loud
Pros:

The rooms were lovely, but most of the hotel is under major, very loud construction that looks like it will go on for quite a long time. Also, this is a wedding venue, so if there is a wedding, then until 10 pm, you will hear music in your room as if you are at the wedding reception.

We'd read the reviews about the construction and the weddings and called ahead. They assured us our rooms would not be affected by the construction because of facing the other side of things, and they said no wedding was booked for during our stay. They knew we were booking adjoining rooms, so while our kids got the room facing the ocean and away from construction (because it had 2 beds), we were in the room facing the construction (because 1 bed), which started at 7 am. Also, there actually was a wedding reception on our first night there. It was loud, but they did stop it at 10. There was a dueling reception across the street from the hotel at the same time. What I am saying here is, this place is very loud. Not a quiet getaway sort of place. It is also in a very loud part of La Jolla Cove, so if you are sitting on the balcony, there is much bus, delivery truck, car traffic below, which gets clogged right in front of the hotel, and oh, there was also a bandstand set up right across with live music our first day there. Seriously, this is a loud loud place to go.

There was one functional elevator, it was very slow, then broke for half a day.

The day we left, we needed the valet to get our car by 6 am so we could return it and catch our flight. It took about 45 minutes from when we requested it because apparently, the night valet just decided to leave before the morning valet came. So, oops.

Lastly, and this is La Jolla Cove in general, I wish someone had told us about the smell. This part of town is a sanctuary for cormorants and sea lions, which is of course a lovely thing. But the smell hits you in the face as soon as you walk outside. Very very pungent. We learned that it is from cormorant and sea lion poop, which is abundant.

On the plus side, the staff is friendly, the hotel is near everything, and the rooms were truly lovely rooms.

Great location, some quirks
Pros:

The room was very nice an clean. We were aware of the construction so that didn't bother us. We spent time in the pool and while it was a trek to get there, it was very nice. The location was perfect right across from the cove and near the village. Now the not so good: valet parking was the only option and it was expensive - the hotel could have absorbed some of that cost since we couldn't do a self-park. There was no soap in the room and I asked the front desk for some but never received it. Not a huge biggie because we used the body wash from the shower but it was a bit annoying. The outlets and lights are some sort of power-saver system but we had a lot of trouble keeping them working - outlets turned off seemingly randomly and lights went on in the middle of the night. Some instructions would have made it easier. All in all, the hotel was fine and we would stay there again if in the area because of all of the pluses.

Go Somewhere Else
Pros:

Came here for a wedding. Avoid for your wedding at all costs. Check in process was not great. Although the staff at the front desk was nice, there was no help with bags, and loud construction starting at 7am. Upon check out valet was so rude, elevators took forever because there is no service elevator so all morning we had to wait as staff carts tried to get on and off on top of all the people checking in and out. This hotel should pause while under construction and revamp. It’s in a pretty location, stunning views, but it’s so basic and without any atmosphere of a nice vacation. I don’t know why anyone would go out of their way to stay here let alone host their wedding here.

Good, but not good.
Pros:

The location was perfect. It was across from La Jolla cove. It was under construction, which we knew before hand.

Cons:

One slow elevator. You had to pay for valet parking. Junk either from birds or construction got all over our windows. When we asked the valet to clean it up, he used a dirty rag and smeared it all over.

La Jolla get away!
Pros:

The overhead a/c was excellent not a wall or window unit! Very quiet too! Kept room at great temperature as set.
Very clean room & bath. Lots of nice clean towels too and had a nice smell to them not like a laundry soap smell.
Would like to have had a room with a view of ocean.
Need to have a sprayer on a hose in bath area. Would be a nice touch easier to rinse off when showering.
Need a table and chairs in room! No place to sit except on the bed.

No privacy and run down
Pros:

I would not consider La Jolla Cove a hotel. It’s more like a motel. The walls are so thin. You can hear the person next to you conversation. The lack of privacy is concerning and not very relaxing. They have a current demolition going on of their facility that you are notnotified of until after you pay we are woken up in the morning at 7 AM to construction worker screaming across the halls metal things falling on the floor power drills. For the price per night of this motel, you’re better off getting an Airbnb nearby.

Not what the pictures show
Pros:

Terribly run down room. Did not match pictures in hotel site. Patio doors didn’t work, portable a/c in bedroom didn’t work- actually pumped warm air into room do to broken duct attachment. Everythinf appeared 30+ years old, was not clean, we did not enjoy our stay. Ocean views do not make up for poor quality and misleading photos.

Great location, comfy bed, too loud.
Pros:

The location was great. The staff was kind. Bed was comfortable. And the view from the rooftop was great.

Cons:

The door let in a lot of light. You could hear everyone in the halls if they even just spoke. I knew about the construction going into it, but it still would have been nice to at least sleep in till 8am on a vacation.

Worst Experience Ever
Pros:

I was extremely disappointed with our stay. From the moment we arrived, it felt like every part of the experience was handled poorly.

Before our arrival, I called to ask about an early check-in. I was told they would likely be able to accommodate us, so we planned accordingly. When we arrived, we were told there was nothing available. We then asked if we could at least park and leave our luggage until check-in, but we were told no.

When we finally parked, there were no available parking spaces despite paying $45 for parking. After calling for assistance, I was told to unload my luggage at the top of the property and then drive all the way to valet myself. Because of the parking situation, we missed our dinner reservation.

After we checked in, we were informed that there would be loud construction taking place from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. each day. This was never disclosed before our arrival or at any point before check-in. Had we known about the construction beforehand, we could have made a more informed decision about our stay.

The problems continued once we got to our room. The air conditioning in the living room was broken. After maintenance repaired it, the air conditioning in the bedroom stopped working. On top of that, there was no hot water in the shower during our stay.

The worst experience occurred when we were locked out of our room. We called and texted the hotel for nearly two hours with no response from anyone. We eventually had to walk to the front desk ourselves. No one apologized for leaving us stranded.

When we shared our concerns with the front desk before checking out, the employee was dismissive and blamed us instead of taking responsibility. He said we should have called maintenance at 2:00 a.m. for the air conditioning issues and claimed that early check-in is never guaranteed—even though we had been told beforehand that they would likely be able to accommodate us.

This stay was frustrating from beginning to end. Between the lack of communication, undisclosed construction, poor customer service, unresolved maintenance issues, parking problems, and the complete lack of accountability, this was one of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had. I expected far better for the price we paid.
