Service is fantastic
We had an excellent stay. The service was outstanding from the moment we arrived. Every staff member was friendly, welcoming, and attentive, always willing to help and make our stay enjoyable. The hotel was also exceptionally clean. Our room was spacious, comfortable, and spotless. We would definitely stay here again!
Everything was great and the cleanliness of the room and resort can’t be beat. The workers who do all the activities are the best. Everyone loves all the activities and the staff make them even more enjoyable. More food options with all-inclusive would be nice. The daily room cleaning by the maid is the best we have ever had.
Even though the territory is big all loungers near pools and most of them on the beach are occupied before 6am so if you want to have a seat you need to reserve your place in advance otherwise you can have a chance to get a pair of loungers after 2-3pm. Big territory and unfortunately not a lot of activities for a kid but there is a water park of course and you will not find official working hours for it anywhere but you will probably find out that it's something between 11:30 - 4:30pm. Room was spacious and quite comfy. Good food mostly but buffet is quite limited sometimes and you get used to it after dining for several days. To have a dinner at a different than La Veranda restaurant you have to book in the morning by calling reception or through your host but in general, this experience is quite horrible.
If you arrive on Saturday, be prepared that you will not be able to eat until La Veranda is opened again at 12:30. Everything else is conveniently closed. And they will not check you in until La Veranda breakfast is closed. After check‑in staff may invite you to a 90‑minute sales presentation promising discounts. These offers are often high‑pressure: advertised 90 minutes can stretch to 2–4 hours, and discounted excursion prices still exceeded online rates. That's exactly what they are doing. They will tell you that you have just to visit their 90 minutes presentation and then you will receive discounts for excursions and of course that's a lie. First of all, they are selling overprice so even with discount the price is much higher than you can find on internet and secondly, if you search similar reviews you will find that 90 minutes can easily become 180 or 240 minutes which you can spend on the beach. We were told we must attend with my wife (and child) or incur a 'no‑show' fee (posted as 500–1,000 MXN). Read any consent form carefully before signing and do not accept conditions requiring family attendance. Another thing is that you have to carefully check what you are signing in restaurants as every time you eat you have to sign and sometimes the check will have some items which you were not ordering at all and which might be on top of all-inclusive so in the end of your stay you will be presented with some additional charges which might be quite big. Better to keep copy of all checks and verify everything day before check-out to have enough time to dispute some charges. The water park closed early at least once without notice. If you want a smoother stay, avoid presentation offers, verify all bills daily, and try to arrive around noon or later not to spend hours on their "garden" reception.
I have been to the Royal Sands several times. The food was average and drinks less than average. Just a little disappointed at the quality considering the price
We have just returned from our 22nd year vacationing at The Royal Sands in Cancun, and once again, our stay was exceptional thanks to the outstanding staff.
I would like to express our sincere appreciation to the many employees who helped make our visit so enjoyable. At The Bistro, Francisco provided excellent service each evening we dined there. His knowledge of wine is impressive, and his tableside Caesar salad preparation is always a special treat. Samuel greeted us every day with a warm smile and friendly welcome, making us feel right at home.
We would also like to recognize Caesar, one of the poolside waiters, who amazingly remembers my name year after year. Roberto provided outstanding service both at the pool and on the beach, always attentive and professional. Miguel, the beach bartender, consistently served some of the best margaritas on the rocks we have ever enjoyed.
A special thank-you goes to Felipe at Hacienda Sisal. He went above and beyond to ensure that every dinner we had there was memorable and enjoyable.
The dedication, friendliness, and professionalism of these staff members are a major reason why we continue to return year after year. We are already looking forward to our next visit to The Royal Sands.
With sincere appreciation,
John Solis
Great and spacious villas with ocean views. Recently went on a family trip was fun and service was excellent. Beachfront property.
My guest was subjected to blatant racial profiling by a member of the security staff.
While walking along the beach, my guest was approached by an employee, who aggressively questioned him multiple times about not wearing a wristband then asked why he was the only individual on the beach being singled out and questioned.
As a member of over two decades, I have always held The Royal Sands in high regard. However, I have never had a guest of mine experience anything like this. It has made the beginning of our stay feel incredibly unwelcoming, unsafe, and uncomfortable. I am deeply disturbed that this is how business is conducted at a resort I call home.
This was our third time staying at Royal Sands, and unfortunately, it will likely be our last.
Before the Holiday Inn takeover, Royal Sands was one of our favorite resorts in Cancun. The staff was always welcoming, the customer service was exceptional, and the food quality was excellent. We also appreciated having access to a variety of restaurants beyond the sister properties, which made each stay feel unique and enjoyable. From the moment we arrived, the front desk staff and greeters made us feel valued and appreciated as guests.
Sadly, this experience was very different. While the resort itself remains clean and well-maintained, the overall hospitality has noticeably declined. We often felt like staff members were bothered when we asked questions, and the customer service from the front desk, concierge, and other team members was disappointing. The warm, welcoming atmosphere that once made this resort special seems to be gone.
The food quality has also gone downhill. In previous visits, dining at the resort was one of the highlights of our vacation. This time, the meals were underwhelming, and our family chose to eat outside the resort several times because we were dissatisfied with the food and beverage options.
We also noticed several areas around the property that were extremely slippery and potentially dangerous. I nearly slipped while wearing running shoes, which raised concerns about guest safety.
Overall, we truly loved Royal Sands before the takeover and are disappointed with what it has become. While the property remains clean and beautiful, the decline in hospitality, customer service, and food quality has significantly impacted the guest experience. Unfortunately, we can no longer recommend Royal Sands to our family and friends for future vacations.
We had a good time at this resort. What we loved the most was our balcony overlooking the ocean and right on the beach! Our balcony was huge and the week we were there it was rather chilly (for Cancun that is). So we spent a lot of time on the balcony reading. The Hacienda restaurant was our favorite as the food was amazing. Otherwise, the food in other restaurants were what we normally see in all-inclusives in Cancun. We have been to Cancun/Riviera Maya/Playa Del Carmen numerous times over the years. Not sure we will go back to this resort. There were a few families that got out of hand in the pool which was odd as it seemed staff didn't want to take care of it and we kept thinking someone would get hurt. It was difficult to find chairs here. Most days my husband had to go down by 5:00 a.m. just to find us 2 chairs. We stayed from Tuesday-Tuesday and oddly enough they made us move to a different room on Saturday so that was a weird experience for an all-inclusive resort.
quality has been on a steep decline since they got bought by Holiday inn.
Used to be a great 4 star resort that rivaled some 5 stars then got bought by a barley 3 star hotel brand and it clearly shows in every aspect from food, service, and staff
Everything was great except the resort and other resorts took no effort on cleaning the Sargassum. Once you got passed that, the water was great!
Hotel location is very nice and in the beach side, rooms are spacious, value for a great stay, clean and there is a lot of activities to do onsite and offsite. Amenities are flexible and walking distance to shopping and offsite fun.
My husband and I recently celebrated our wedding, and we cannot say enough GREAT things about the resort. The level of service was exceptional. The team made the entire wedding process smooth & memorable. A special thank you goes to Maria and Cristina, who were phenomenal throughout our wedding journey. I can't thank them enough. They went above and beyond to make sure every detail was handled with care. It was absolutely magical! If you are considering a destination wedding, anniversary celebration, family vacation, or simply a relaxing getaway, I highly recommend booking reservations at the Royal Sands Resorts.
Beautiful beach, fantastic staff, awesome amenities and REFINE All-Inclusive package made this a first-rate vacation. Literally, best Cancun visit in 25 years since our honeymoon.
Location is great, especially for the younger crowd. Our room was the smallest they have and my wife and I couldn’t share a bed, so that was odd. Service is generally excellent, food is pretty good, and normally the beach is really nice. This time it was covered in smelly seaweed. We had an issue with the toilet that it took them 2 tries and much of a day to resolve, so that made our room marginally unusable most of one day.
Royal Sands Resort was absolutely beautiful. We had an oceanfront view, and it was truly breathtaking. The resort was very clean and smelled wonderful throughout. The food was delicious, and the staff was friendly and accommodating. We had a fantastic time and created memories that will last a lifetime. I highly recommend this resort to anyone visiting Cancun.
Everything is nice with the exception of the constant badgering from the need to sell you more time shares or points or this to get to this level. We said no the first time and they just kept coming at us. The lady was nice but told us she only gets paid if we do the presentations. We went for that reason alone. The sales person stated we should disconnect the phone and say no because we have the option. However he told us he did not understand because we were waiting his time. I will be rude and make sure they understand. We did buy more but are reluctant that it will work as we were sold. If not it will be another list of lies.
Moises and Head Waiter Nanci at our pool bar provided exceptional service throughout our stay. They consistently anticipated our needs and showed remarkable kindness and attentiveness. Nanci even made a memorial plaque and origami flowers for my grandmother at the palm tree that I always set up near!!
Eduardo also delivered outstanding service and hospitality while assisting us upon our arrival at La Veranda for our first meal, making us feel welcome from the very beginning.
Brenda, our concierge, was incredibly helpful and knowledgeable. She provided excellent recommendations, arranged our massage appointments, made reservations on our behalf, and coordinated my marketing presentation appointment—where I ultimately purchased additional points.
Each of these team members contributed significantly to making our experience enjoyable, memorable, and seamless. Their professionalism and dedication to guest satisfaction are truly commendable.
The ocean here is awesome, and the rooms are good, almost all have balcony, they have daily cleaning service, a descent area for kids, some good food and alright food, alcohol free drinks, lots of towels, you can exchange them once a day (get two clean towels daily) they have another hotel further north with free transportation there and back at certain hours throughout the day, you can use the beach there and eat at their restaurant (included)
The staff is good but if you want better service at the beach, then you have to tip them before they serve you!
The restaurants get fully reserved early in the morning. Sometimes you have to stand in line for breakfast (very boring) swimming pool bar closes early, and you have to leave 300 U$D payment per room in case of damage (they refund when you leave)
They put us in two rooms very far separated.
(Took at least 10 minutes getting to the other room each time) tho they do have rooms that are connected.
