Lack of compassion
Pros:

We had to cancel our reservation because of the wildfire smoke. Local officials had declared the air quality to be in the red zone, meaning it was unhealthy, especially for children. We were traveling with kids who have allergies and asthma, so continuing with our trip was not a safe option.
Despite these circumstances, the hotel refused to waive the cancellation fee and charged us for one night's stay. As longtime Hilton guests, we were disappointed by the lack of compassion and flexibility during what was clearly a health and safety issue beyond our control.
Customer service is often revealed in how a company responds during difficult situations. Unfortunately, this experience has caused us to reconsider whether we'll continue choosing Hilton for future travel.
