The Honeymoon is Over
Pros:

We stayed here a little over two years ago and loved it. Unfortunately, there were certain issues this time around.
The magnificent lobby with the gorgeous chandelier still wowed me every time I returned. Parking is still free. The well-run delicious breakfast buffet is still offered. And best of all our favorite, talented, multi-tasking omelet man returned to help out during that busy graduation week.
That's where the raves end. Our room was comfortable and quiet, but we think the bathroom may have been a handicapped bathroom. There were grab bars everywhere. This was not a problem, but the shower was. There was hardly a separation between the shower floor and bathroom floor to keep the water inside of the shower. That together with a shower curtain that was too short and too narrow, caused a slippery, dangerous flood every time we showered.
Housekeeping was another issue. When I requested daily housekeeping for our 4 night / 5 day stay when we first arrived, I was informed there would be no housekeeping that week, but I could pick up towels etc. at the front desk. So, we got our towels from the often-unfriendly reception staff, got our own coffee and creamer, scrounged around for a place to empty our overflowing trash, and made our own beds. On the morning of day 4, we saw a staff member with a cart of towels. We asked if she would give us some. She flatly refused. She said the request needed to be placed at the front desk by 10 AM. This interaction took place at 10:10. I quickly went downstairs and requested towels be delivered but we never got them.
We are no longer quite as enthusiastic about the Clayton Plaza.

Fair-very outdated facility, I feel like we should have gotten a discount!
Pros:

Main part of building is nice, in nice area

Cons:

Pool and game room were out of service. Floor in room was dirty. Drawer in room was broken. Lock on front door did not lock! Had to call maintenance man. Plaster on the window shade. Cannot see out the window-seems to have fog in between layers of glass. Ice machine was not working. Heater covers in hallways falling off. Wifi was very poor. Overall, MANY things in disrepair.

This was my 3rd time staying at this hotel and the first time I was disappointed in it.
Pros:

The breakfast

Cons:

The sheets on one of the beds were dirty.
The safe didn't work, but it was replaced a day later.
There was construction being done in the section of the hotel where we were staying and we were not told in advance.
Lastly, I booked a room with a walk-in shower and when we checked in we were told that no rooms with walk-in showers were available. Only after arguing and showing a staff my reservation did they give us a room with a walk in shower.

Great location, great staff. Good food. Would definitely stay there again.
Pros:

I'll give this 4 out of 5 not 5 out of 5. Because the pool wasn't working. It was in renovations and they didn't do our rooms every day. But they let us know, and I noticed they were short-staffed the staff it did have was phenomenal. The breakfast was perfect. The staff who are doing the breakfast were friendly fast and awesome. It was a buffet, but they did omelets and other stuff to order. It was pleasant surprise, the rooms were nice and clean. We loved it.And we would definitely go back AND I WOULD STRONGLY RECOMMEND IT.

Nice hotel, great value
Pros:

The front-desk staff is super helpful and friendly. The rooms are nice. The electronic shower control unit is kind of cool. Best part: the breakfast. It's a full breakfast bar plus made-to-order waffles. And the price is great compared to other hotels of similar or better quality in the area.

Cons:

The mattress was a bit saggy (but still okay), and you will have to deal with getting your parking ticket validated (with an automatic charge of $6/night). But you're parking in a garage, which is nice in case of inclement weather.

We would stay again
Pros:

We enjoyed our stay at this hotel. It appeared clean and all of the staff we encountered were kind and informative. We’ve stayed in this hotel once before and had no issues with it then either. The water pressure and temperature in the showers was great. They have an attached parking garage where you use a sky bridge to get from it to the hotel itself, which is nice. Parking, if validated by the receptionist, is $6 per night. Apparently Fridays are free. The hotel offers free breakfast, though we did not go down to see it. The beds and pillows were comfortable and the hotel in general is quiet. We would be willing to stay here again.

Great stay!
Pros:

Clayton Plaza Hotel completely surprised me in the best way. The moment you walk in, the lobby gives off this gorgeous Titanic‑style charm that feels grand and welcoming. Everything is spotless, and even though the décor is older, it feels classic rather than outdated.

The location is fantastic with plenty of places to eat and explore just steps away. There’s no specific dog area, but downtown is right there, so walking around was easy. Our room was clean, comfortable, and quiet, and we slept great. The staff that night were genuinely friendly and made the stay even better.

Parking is super convenient with a garage connected directly to the hotel, and the six‑dollar nightly fee is a great deal. The twenty‑dollar dog fee was also very reasonable.

Overall, this hotel has charm, comfort, and a perfect location. We loved our stay and would definitely come back.

Disappointing and much too expensive for the accommodations.
Pros:

Great breakfast! Nice location.

Cons:

We were put in a room with a broken hide a bed. When we called the front desk, they said, “yeah that’s broken beyond repair” and offered us a rollaway. We requested a different room, which they accommodated, but that one had a broken shower. We were also really disappointed that their site did not reflect a shut down pool until after booking. The pool was the only reason we had chosen that hotel in the first place.
