The carpets especially in the public hallways were filthy, and the one in our room had blood on it.

City centre near to all in Manchester
Check in procedure was awful. Normally check in consists of asking name and booking reference.
A&O staff requested me to scan a code which returned a questionnaire asking some relevant questions (name, address etc) and lots of irrelevant information (how did you travel to Manchester - drive, bus, train etc).
Also asked for id in form of passport, driving licence which many travellers may not have on their possession. Then asked to produce id documents as a security measure.
Far too many questions (which probably didn't need to be produced under GDPR law), lack of staff to deal with check-in queue, and who several times just walked away to deal with other customers (putting suitcases into temporary storage or retrieving cases,), a computer that froze and needed rebooting, and in the case of the customer in front of me, a card reader which wasn't accepting payments.
The experience put me off ever considering staying with A&O again.
Location. I stayed here many times before when it was under different ownership
The room I was given initially was dirty (dirty bed sheets, empty wine bottles). I returned immediately to the reception who suggested that the room was dirty because I had used it. I ordered food from the bar in the evening, which never arrived. The kitchen closed and the staff member was unable to give me a refund. I went to reception the following morning, they were unable to give me a refund too. They gave me a number to call. I’m still waiting for the refund.
