Great location. Family room. Pool. Friendly helpful people. Good breakfast.
Pool room is too hot. Price.
The view of the castle from the balcony room is perfect! Location is perfect.
Staff are friendly and rooms / hotel is clean.
Returned to this property on multiple occasions.
Only thing that could be improved from my stay this time would be a choice of firm pillow, as the pillows are very soft.

Location was great, beds were comfortable
Pool facilities were much smaller than photos appeared. For the cost, doesn’t compare favourably with other hotels of similar level. Empty conditioner bottle in bathroom.
The spacious bed with 4 pillows
The toilet bowl button, too hard to press it
For a location of a hotel stay in Edinburgh, the Apex Grassmarket Hotel cannot be beat. The views out the window looking up to the Edinburgh Castle were epic. The breakfast spread, specialties and staff were all incredibly nice, pleasant, knowledgeable and helpful. We were in Edinburgh during a heat wave across the UK and the heat was well above the norm. The hotel staff provided us with two desk fans for our time with them that helped to cool the room down.
It's a great hotel in a highly desirable location, but there are several areas that need to be updated. Opening windows to try and cool down was virtually impossible and we asked for a new room that had better ventilation - the staff pleasantly assisted in getting our room changed to what was a more comfortable, functional room.
The hotel is in a great location with stunning views of Edinburgh Castle. Excellent parking and a good breakfast are available.
Location, view and the friendly staff
Very warm, no air conditioning
Location. Cooked breakfast was nice.
Decor was old and tired. Rooms and hallways too hot. No air conditioning! Staff were slow. Was given incorrect key and room number to our room when we arrived. Our room wasn’t cleaned on the following day.
Great location, friendly staff, good value
the location is suberb, and the breakfast is very good
there was no airconditioning and we should have checked this before but for a 4star hotel we thought this was standard /
very standard room, lacks character
breakfast as OK again, and location is still superb/
this was a second stay after 2 weeks, and we were rather disappointed by the size of our room this time which hardly allowed our 2 suitcases to be stored, and we had a smaller bed/the lack of airco (for a 4star hotel we thought this was standard) was really a pity, only a ventilator and open windows at night were not sufficient to reduce the hot temperature in the small sized room (but we do realise that temperatures around 25°C are not all that common in Edinburgh)/bathroom could do with some amendments
Everything
Staff member who helped us change rooms due to noise and heat in first room.
Rooms very warm and noisy. Very few luggage carts.
The location of the hotel was good and the view was beautiful. The beds were comfortable too.
This is not a four star hotel and I don’t understand how the ratings are so high on this website. The rooms are not as roomy as the photos show and they are dingy. In fact, the whole hotel is dingy. There were stains on the decorative pillows in the room, the curtains (looked like blood) and the carpet was in desperate need of replacing. The lobby was dingy and dark, the bar/reception area had gross looking couches and even the outdoor area had dead bushes and furniture that looked like it was used. It did have pieces from IKEA for decor. There was mold in the shower as well. The room also did not have AC, but that’s my fault for not noticing ahead of time. However, it made the nights very uncomfortable. There are at least 15 steps up to the place where the elevators are and there’s no one to help you. There’s no door man. The area the hotel is in is lively and fun, but it’s also right near a rundown area and the other apex hotel a few feet away had graffiti on it. Having a person at the door should be something that’s prioritized seeing as how centrally located this is to a lot of different spaces. It just was not the quality I was expecting for the price. It cost over $1000 for two nights. It should at least be well kept.
