Waikiki Monarch Hotel

The location was perfect, you can walk wherever you want and get to know a little more Oahu, the view was one of the best and the pool is much bigger and prettier than I expected.. I recommend it

STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL….unless you like sleeping with roaches.

Sadly, I can only give 1 star for this review but it didn’t even deserve that. I went to Hawaii with family. We had 2 rooms. Upon arrival I thought I might have been catfished but I didn’t let that ruin my check in. I was wrong.
It is a very old building so it smelled old, carpets looked old too. Beds were lopsided because the legs were uneven. Walls were filthy as if they just painted over old stains. I’m not boujie in any sense but my space I am sleeping in, especially with my kids, MUST be clean and comfortable. This place was not.

We checked in, headed out to dinner and when we came back, the roaches were already beginning to show face. They were all over the bed and the bathroom. My nieces came up to tell us her room had roaches as well. When we went to check out, (if one room has them, ALL ROOMS HAVE THEM) they refused a refund and only offered a different room. It was almost 1am. Needless to say, we rented an air bnb and fought with the hotel for 2 more days to get a refund. They refused. In total, we lost $700 and had to pay another $600 to rent the air bnb. Sad….
Anyway, customer service was trash. They only care about taking your money. Once you book, you will NOT get a refund. Parking is also 45 dollars a day. Don’t pay in advance or you will risk losing your money.
This was the worst trip I ever had in Hawaii and I come all the time. At least I know to never stay in this dump, ever again.

Overall, the room met my needs. I needed a place to sleep while I explored Oahu. This is not a hotel resort. Perfect for my needs and met my budget. Only wish the hotel had better mattresses. The box spring mattresses were not kind on my back.

The service was great. Room is a little tight, but for the price it is good especially since it is in Waikiki. The front desk receptionist Kana was really helpful and nice.

Amenities were awesome especially the pool. The room was decently clean and the noise level was not bad for it being summer. Location is not ideal if you want to be in the heart of Waikiki, but if you rather be closer to the convention center or Ala Moana it is good.

Had a great experience at this hotel. Although it’s not on the beach, it’s close by and also near other attractions.
The room is larger than I expected and had great air conditioning. Check in was smooth as Kana was at the front desk and she was so helpful. Thank you!
