Pros:

Location and helpful staff

Cons:

Dated and needs refurbishment. Couldn’t get anything to eat after 10.00. We asked at 10.10 to have a snack or chips etc in the bar and were told it was not possible. There were 18 of us having come back from and event.

Fabuleux, je vais recommander cet hôtel
Pros:

A disappointing overhyped hotel
Pros:

The free drink on arrival.
They kept our bags stored for the day when we checked out.

Cons:

The jacuzzi’s were being cleaned on Sunday morning so we couldn’t actually use them, yet it was during the very limited spa opening hours. The cleaners were in the changing rooms hoovering so the relaxation room was equally out of bounds. Surely all this cleaning should be done prior to the 9am spa opening..

The room was tiny. Couldn’t walk around the bed. The armchair and carpet were both filthy.

Bathroom in need of entire refurbishment. It was mouldy, the bath had a huge chip and the shower saturated the floor because the shower panel is too short. We had to call for new towels to soak up the water.

I don’t know what the hotel deal is with booking.com but it’s not a good deal, I think they assign the worst rooms. We don’t recommend this hotel, it’s not worth the money.

Would have liked a spa treatment - but fully booked so need to book in advance
Pros:

Breakfast was had a good selection.
The staff very accommodating and delightful.

Cons:

Our room- The bathroom large window had NO blind within , plus bathroom curtain in small window could be renewed. (windows were obscured, but lighting within the bathroom at night, outside you would be able to make out a figure within)

Lovely relaxing break
Pros:

The service from the staff - everyone was incredibly helpful, attentive & friendly, nothing too much trouble including Ranga delivering a fridge to our room.
Tendayi was fantastic & took great care of us throughout our stay & 5 stars for Reuben for his enthusiasm & helpfulness, we felt so looked after, the breakfasts were lovely & we enjoyed relaxing by the pool.
The staff are a real credit to the hotel.

Cons:

Nothing although we didn’t like leaving .

Cosy time in St Peter Port with lovely old style service
Pros:

Very attentive staff from them we arrived, sorting our car out, Reuben was very friendly & efficient showing us where everything was & made us feel welcome. Dinner in the restaurant was lovely as was breakfast.

Cons:

The room was a bit snug but ok for one night, beware the heated towel rails, I got a nasty burn on my arm from briefly touching it when getting my towel, informed reception who were suitably concerned.

Unforgettable experience. Wonderful staff
Pros:

An amazing experience at the Old Government Hotel. It certainly lived up to its reputation. We were surprised to be upgraded to a sea view Queen room and the service from every member of staff was the best we’ve ever experienced. Breakfast was exceptional and by far the best we have experienced. Valet service for the car was pure luxury.
Huge thanks to all the team.
I would just comment that we are probably on a tighter budget than most and jumped at a Travelzoo offer at this fabulous hotel. Making sure we stuck to budget, we enjoyed the two wonderful meals within the deal but was a little shocked at the drinks bill plus service charge and also the checking out system of adding £10 per night for the room. Table water wasn’t offered and we are not used to paying £6 for a bottle of still water. I appreciate we could have refused the service charge but it would have seemed very rude to do so, after the wonderful service and experience we had. I only mention it in case others are in a similar position and take advantage of the travelzoo deal. The additional costs probably added an additional £60-£70 on the overall holiday. However, taking this into account, we will never forget the wonderful time we had and only raise this in case others need to take the additional expense into their costings for the travel zoo deal.

Made to feel like royalty!
Pros:

I can't praise the OGH highly enough. We found the the hotel to be perfect in every way and it far exceeded our expectations. The room was beautifully furnished, comfortable and spotlessly clean and the special cakes/decorated plates that were made for my husband's birthday and retirement celebrations were a lovely surprise for him. The food was delicious, especially the extensive breakfast. We also enjoyed using the beautiful spa. But what made our stay extra special was the outstanding service we received from every single member of staff. They were extremely polite and friendly and we were surprised they even recognised us and addressed us by name when they saw us. Nothing was ever too much trouble for them and they made us feel like royalty for a few days :) Particular thanks go to Andrew, The General Manager, who came down to welcome us and made sure our requests were carried out. They have a very good team working there with highly qualified skills and they are a credit to the hotel. They made my husband's special occasion one we will never forget and we hope to return one day.

Grand old hotel - with a few annoyances.
Pros:

This hotel boasts it is the only 5 star hotel in Guernsey. The food is inded good and the staff (most of whom seem to be South African) are helpful and friendly. The room we had (an upgrade to get a king size bed) was pathetically small and we struggled to find space to get our two suitcases open. Heaven alone knows what the 'standard' room size is. Great location near the centre of town and valet parking (but allow 15 minutes for them to retrieve your car).

OGH should be OMG
Pros:

This is a lovely hotel.
We were greeted with a glass of prosecco and advised we had been upgraded to a King room.
The food was excellent we ate in The Brasserie and the Curry room both meals were first class.
The breakfast had an unbelievable choice and everything was delicious.
The staff throughout were courteous and helpful
I would definately recommend this hotel and hope to return.
