Loved the hotel and the lounge downstairs. The breakfast was also delicious!!
Our room was a bit warm but the staff, who were the sweetest and nicest people, brought us a second fan. We appreciated it a lot!!
Breakfast was good, service was very good.
Nothing
Tha breakfast staff were exceptional
Bedroom furniture was abit tired & outdated. Loud music up to 11pm
We had a wonderful stay at the Marine which is my ‘home away from home ‘ whilst in Dublin. The team were extremely helpful and friendly . We will be back . Thank the so much . Sarah
Location
No air conditioning. Staff polite but unenthusiastic not engaging compared to our other stays in Ireland
Beautiful room with a view of the sea.
A gem of a hotel.
Great value for money!
Location
No air conditioning
Lage gut, alles andere Katastrophe.
Das Haus ist schon längst über seine Zeit, Verfall zum zuschauen. Und dann noch völlig überzogene Preise.
Es ist zwar schade um ein Traditionshaus - aber hier gehört ein völlig neues und modernes Hotel hin.
Its location was fantastic and it was clean and staff where good
The room was extremely warm due to the exceptional weather there was a fan but it was still very warm
Location was great
No air con extremely warm we did have a fan on but had to leave window open not a great night sleep listing to the gulls
Lack of air con was the only thing missing
Some time ago I posted a positive review about the Marine because it genuinely felt like the hotel was moving in the right direction. The staff were superb, there were noticeable improvements throughout the hotel, and although I offered a few suggestions about the bar (certainly not claiming to be an expert), I was pleased to leave a 4-star review. The hotel’s response was positive and appreciated.
Unfortunately, from what I’ve observed over several visits since then, the hotel appears to have gone backwards—arguably to a point beyond where it was under the previous owners.
The experienced staff seem to have left, leaving young, inexperienced employees doing their best. I genuinely feel sorry for them, as I’ve witnessed managers snapping at them while they’re simply asking for assistance. That’s not something customers should see. These young staff should be supported, coached and encouraged—not criticised in front of customers. Good leadership builds confidence; it doesn’t undermine it.
Outside, tables are often left uncleared while people are enjoying the sunshine, attracting seagulls to the leftover food. Inside isn’t much better, with tables left cluttered with empty glasses, dirty coffee cups and used tea and coffee trays long after customers have gone. It gives the impression that there’s very little management presence or anyone taking ownership of the customer experience.
The bar has also reverted to feeling more like a football stadium than a welcoming hotel bar, with all the lights blazing. You almost need sunglasses indoors.
Where are the standards? Who is accountable for the condition of the place? The young staff should not be blamed—they’re doing their best with the support they’re given. Accountability lies with management, not with the junior employees who are left to face frustrated customers while those responsible seem nowhere to be seen.
Whoever is managing the hotel has taken what was three steps forward and turned it into five steps back.
The Marine needs the support of the local community, especially during the quieter months. With so few local hotels left in Sutton and Howth, this should be an opportunity to build loyalty, not lose it. Sadly, more and more locals are talking negatively about the hotel again.
I don’t usually write reviews like this, and I’d much rather be leaving another positive one. However, it’s disappointing to see the progress that had been made disappear. I genuinely hope management takes this as constructive criticism because the hotel has so much potential, but right now it’s the leadership that’s letting both its staff and its local customers down.
