The room was beautiful and very spacious. Lovely bathroom.
Central location, food for people arriving by train. Breakfast included and had a deal that included first night dinner in Ash restaurant which was great food.
Creaky floors in hallway, so can be disturbed by other guests walking around depending on room location. Very little parking at front of hotel which competes with train arrival area. Had to walk 5 minutes to multi story carpark and pay for parking. First shower of the day took atleast 5 minutes to get hot water.
The location is great. The lobby is impressive.
The tub in our room was seriously slippery and my husband broke a toe trying to get out. So that wasn’t great. Other than that the room was OK
Great location. Friendly staff.
Not much room when you have 2 full size suitcases.
Well, the breakfast was OK, and the location was central.
It's an old hotel, next to the train station - so you can imagine what that's like. Outdated, musty, past its prime. The floor was not level, the bed was uncomfortable, the window was difficult to open, and it was noisy outside. No exhaust fan in the bath, although a sign tells you to keep the door closed because the fire alarms may go off (because of steam???) Also the mirror over the old fashioned sink was pretty much at waist level for some reason. Impossible to park your car as there are only a few spots, which are always taken.
Close to the train station and town. Clean sheets, towel and bathroom.
The room was poorly decorated. It’s in need of a total revamp. The net curtain was filthy.
The woodwork and skirting board’s were chipped. The ground floor ladies bathroom window was full of cobwebs and very dirty.
My sister and I stayed for two nights. After returning on the first day the room wasn’t serviced, ie beds weren’t made, tea and coffee supplies not replenished.
The breakfast was poor. Tinned fruit salad, tables not laid in prep for the guests.
Fantastic location, historic building, comfortable room.
The breakfasts could have been better
We arrived in Inverness by train and this, the railway hotel, is right on the station. It is a nineteenth-century building which is feeling a little in need of a facelift. The entrance hall and grand staircase are very impressive but the rest of the hotel doesn't quite live up to the early promise. However, our room was a nice big one, unlike those in so many modern hotels. Despite the station being so close there was no noise audible. Good value for money. Our visit was enlivened by a performance by Spud the Piper.
The staff we encountered seemed in low spirits. The receptionist may have been pleased to see us but kept her emotions carefully under control. For a hotel with the name of "Royal Highland" we were expecting at least a minimal dress code for guests but were disappointed. There is a wonderful Highland Railway poster in the entrance lounge which gives one a feeling of how grand it used to be in the past.
