Grand Hotel Royal

We travelled with our daughter. She had a single room and we had a double room with limited sea view. This hotel delivers in every way. Charming and helpful reception staff greeted us . We had to wait until 2pm for our room so grabbed our swimsuits and headed to the beautiful garden and pool area. The pool is large and well kept. The pool bar offers a good menu of salads, sandwiches and pizza and the staff were very accommodating.
The rooms were large and decorated to suit the decor of the hotel . The bathroom large and very clean.
Our breakfast experience was so relaxing. Fantastic choice of continental and eggs and bacon etc if you fancied something more substantial. Even a fresh waffle and pancake makers.
The evening meal comprised of 4 courses. Entree of salads and small dishes, starter, main course and desert. We are vegetarian so was concerned but throughly enjoyed the food. They even prepared a pasta dish for us one evening as we’re not keen on the veggie choices. The staff at breakfast and dinner were so lovely . Special mention to Andrea who made us laugh each night.
We went to the sea for a swim a couple of days . The hotel has an arrangement with a private beach owner opposite. You can use the sunbeds and the facilities if this is your thing.
The resort is very relaxed. Market on a Thursday . We went Pisa by train . The station is about a 20 min walk from the hotel. It was very hot when we were there so we chose to use a private company for our days trip to Florence . It was arranged by the hotel reception and was absolutely brilliant. Walking tour with a lovely lady called Tania. Eur169 each. We had the best week here in this relaxed by beautiful hotel. Would definitely recommend for adults and children

Excellent breakfast options. Staff attentive and welcoming. Catered for vegans and gluten free with no issues.

Stayed here for 7 nights at the beginning of May . Great location on the prommenade and just 20 min walk to the station to go to pisa, lucca, florence and cinque terre . Can't fault anything , rooms were great and quite glad we stayed half board as the evening meal was quality every night with service to match . Didn't spend much time around the pool but looked a nice little area . The lobby bar and service was excellent . All in all a great base to explore the northern end of Tuscany .

Our first time at then Grand Hotel Royal and having read all the wonderful reviews, I’m pleased to say that it lived up to expectations!
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. Matilde in reception spent a lot of time with us providing us with bus times to and from Pietrasanta and train times to/from Lucca and Firenze.
We had a partial sea view room on the side of the hotel (room 110) which had a small balcony just large enough for two chairs and a table. The room was spacious with a huge double bed! It was quiet with virtually no noise from the promenade road at the front of the hotel.
The hotel is immaculate and very traditional with tiled floors an impressive wide staircase and beautiful high ceilings in every room - it is grand in every respect!
Breakfast was amazing - everything you could want from waffles, pancakes, yoghurts, fruit etc to sausages, bacon and scrambled eggs! Evening meal was also excellent with several choices every day.
Included in the Jet2 package was a sunbed, two deck chairs and a parasol on the sandy beach opposite the hotel. That said, we spent more time at the pool area which had a large pool and an excellent pool bar for afternoon beer and/or cocktails (it also served food).
All in all the hotel was as good as it gets and I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend it.

È stato un soggiorno bellissimo. Lo staff è stato sempre disponibile, professionale e molto gentile. L’hotel è uno dei più belli che abbia mai visto, curato in ogni dettaglio. La piscina interna è semplicemente stupenda e rende l’esperienza ancora più piacevole. Consigliatissimo!

This was our second visit and we knew it wouldn’t disappoint. We went with friends this time who instantly fell in love with the Grand Dame of Viareggio.

Room spotless we didn’t have a sea view this time, purely on the basis I am a poor sleeper and the side rooms I thought were quieter, top marks to the lady that did our room.

Breakfast delicious and plentiful, dinner delicious. And the waiters and waitresses are on point. Thank you Alexandro,Stefano , Micheal and Serena huge thank you.

Pool perfect, spotless, great pool bar and staff. Hi Guiseppie so helpful and hard working.
Aminta Beach bar is spotless the girls in the bar/restaurant are lovely. Comfy sunbeds and so peaceful.

The Bar… no words it’s a hub where people meet up. With the best cocktails we’ve had since our trip to the Ritz of course made by the super talented Nicola and the lovely lady that’s with him on the bar. Nicola is the guy that keeps people from going out in the evening!! his charisma is infectious. The bar area has a charming atmosphere where you meet people and make new friends.

The hotel have wonderful staff and the manager looks after them, it’s their superpower.
