My husband and daughter stayed for two nights because they were going to the school dormitory, and on the first day they parked, so they were charged $75. It’s expensive, but I understand. However, the next day, because my daughter slept in the dormitory, they charged $75 even though there were no parked cars. I called the hotel and told them, but they refused the refund. I never want to use a ridiculous hotel again that charges a parking fee for parking when it hasn’t even been used

We have stayed at Hotel Republic several times, and I’m giving this hotel 5 stars because that rating reflects the consistency of our experiences here over time.

From the valet to the front desk to the room attendants, the service has repeatedly been gracious, professional, welcoming, and genuinely accommodating. Even during this most recent stay, there were so many examples of the staff going above and beyond for us, from helping with our check-in and accommodating a late checkout to even printing business documents for me when I was running behind. Those seemingly small acts of hospitality make such a difference, and they are a big reason we continue to return.

There was one significant concern during this particular stay, and I was disappointed with how it was handled by one individual. I do believe it is worth acknowledging, but because it was so inconsistent with our previous experiences, and with the exceptional service we received from everyone else during this very same stay…I don’t believe it would be fair to let that one interaction define the entire hotel or its team. I will be sharing the details directly with the General Manager so it can be addressed appropriately.

What I can say publicly is that the overwhelming majority of the staff here have consistently demonstrated the kind of hospitality that makes guests feel genuinely cared for.

The hotel itself has a beautiful, stylish vibe, and the location is fantastic. You’re within walking distance of so many wonderful restaurants and everything downtown San Diego has to offer. It’s equally great for a quick getaway or a longer San Diego vacation.

Thank you to the many Hotel Republic team members who have taken such wonderful care of us. Five stars for the consistency, kindness, professionalism, and above-and-beyond hospitality we have experienced time and time again.

I got upgraded to a suite and the room was beautiful, large, clean, and comfortable. The breakfast was decent in the morning lounge; I had a great stay. The people at the front desk were also very nice.

Had such a great experience at Topside Terrace. The bartender, Ally, was not only super friendly and attentive, but also gave amazing recommendations. Every food item she suggested was absolutely delicious and totally lived up to the hype. You can tell she really knows the menu and cares about making sure guests have a great time. Definitely made the whole experience even better!

It was an enchanted evening during comic con. The summer breeze held the faint scent of fresh baked goodies and hope.
Fresh, or perhaps in this case, not so fresh, off of a long day of meeting people and shuffling through crowds, I decided to rest my weary, aching bones at Topside Terrace.
The atmosphere buzzed with the electricity of a lightning storm. There was a live DJ spinning what could only be described as “dance your ass off” beats. The crowd was singing the song of good times in the kind of dull roar that is normally reserved for a sporting event. The entire scene rattled with an intensity that was half fun, half oh-my-gosh-what’s-going-to-happen-next.
The setting was prime to be the kind of predicament where fun was in the air, but service might disappear into the ether.

But that didn’t happen.

Enter the real heroes of this night. Ally, Daniel, Emma, Nick, Jenn and Jackie! In the midst of a demanding crowd that was as insatiable as a wildfire, this crew bossed the night like they created it. If there was stress or tension, it didn’t show. They moved with kind of cohesion and oneness typically reserved for a school of fish. Orders were flying, drinks were stirring, people were being pacified as if they were babies with blankets. I have been to many bars, but none with a crew as skilled as this. Not to mention the sweet and human way they treated every patron.

Nay, in the history of people going out for a good time, I doubt any crew has done as good and skilled a job.

I will be back as soon as I can and can only hope to see this lovely crew again.

Nice hotel. We stayed in this location ages ago when it was formerly a trendy, high energy W hotel. The current rebranding looks nice and relaxed. It has a beautiful open lobby with eye-catching driftwood chandeliers with a blue and white color palette. Decor is very nautical. I really appreciated the plentiful outlets and usb ports in the room. We found it to be clean and comfortable. The nook by the window is cozy. The room is surprisingly bland and underwhelming in color. The hotel is about a 12 minute walk to the Embarcadero. There are water refill stations on the even numbered floors. Valet parking is a little pricey, but we found overnight parking in a nearby garage for less. Lounge on the second floor unfortunately didn’t have food on weekends, but we were able to go in there and pick up water and sodas.

We had a great experience thanks to our server, Daniel, who was handling the entire section on his own and still managed to be incredibly attentive and helpful. He checked in on us regularly without being overbearing and made sure everything came out quickly and correctly. It’s not easy juggling that much at once, but he handled it with professionalism and a positive attitude. Really appreciated the great service—definitely made our visit even better! The view was spectacular! The food was wonderful! Emma made our visit a fantastic experience and we recommend the Topside to everyone!!

Absolutely loved this rooftop spot! The ambiance was perfect—great vibes, beautiful views, and just an all-around relaxing atmosphere. The bartender, Ally, really stood out—attentive, polite, and genuinely friendly, which made the whole experience even better. Drinks were on point and service never missed a beat. My husband and I came to the rooftop bar to celebrate, and we had the BEST experience! Our bartender Ally, was absolutely incredible! She was so friendly, welcoming, attentive. The drinks were delicious, the rooftop atmosphere was beautiful, BUT the service truly made our celebration even more special. She went above and beyond and made our night one to remember! We will absolutely be coming back and highly recommend this rooftop bar to anyone looking for great drinks, amazing service, and a beautiful place to celebrate!

Had such a great time at this outdoor bar! The atmosphere was relaxed and fun, perfect for hanging out and enjoying the fresh air. The drinks were honestly some of the best I’ve had—super well-made and definitely exceeded expectations.
