Bit cold
The property was in a beautiful location and the staff were excellent and helpful albeit we had asked for an earlier check-in because we were attending a wedding but one of the rooms was not available which caused a bit of inconvenience!
The property is in bad need of renovation and upgrading. The rooms definitely could do with upgrading. At the moment I would rate it as two or three star on the accommodation.

Country house feel in a quiet location offering excellent food and service.
Definitely in need for updating in some areas (ongoing). Room 19 is inadequately insulated for noise from the adjacent room.
Lovely quiet location and very friendly staff. We enjoyed all the food and it was well presented.
We were made aware of building renovations being carried out.
It was very dusty in the hotel and the smell of damp plaster was very strong.
Our room was very dark and old fashioned and definitely in needed of refurbishment. We had a booked a superior double but to us this was a basic room.

Shower curtain rings missing didn't want to wet floor so used bath instead .
But no real problem as we were aware rooms are in the process of being refitted .

Breakfast was excellent! However, facilities too old that they need updating. Shower and bath was too old old with hot water just luke warm and water from shower head too slow!

The location
The room had not been hoovered, the cupboards in the room had split coffee stains on them. The full English breakfast came without sausages in error and some of the staff were rude and unhelpful.

Great location. Breakfast was lovely
Excellent location, lovely peaceful garden, and quirky but nice rooms. The location is is nice and relaxing. Once ytou enter the grounds and move up the long gravel driveway, you feel miles from anywhere, but you're not. We even saw a baby deer on the croquet lawn as we drove in!
Service was excellent…when you could get it. It is diabolically slow. 30 minutes to order a cup of tea. Over one hour to get breakfast. Allow yourself plenty of time, and don’t go if you are at all impatient.
Staff were very friendly and accommodating, a credit to the hotel.
It looked tired, our room was dusty and the carpet was loose in places. I didn't think it was worth the £176 bill, I regretted upgrading as it was definitely not good value for money. The bar menu was restricted and the main menu didn't have much choice and was expensive.
