The wife and I have talked about visiting the Homestead for a long time and finally took the plunge. On the plus side, the Homestead is perhaps the most beautiful resort we've ever visited. The building, grounds and rooms were lovely, and the staff was courteous and very helpful. Fine restaurants, as well. On the other hand, unless you are there for an event or to golf, there isn't much to do. The Homestead does offer activities (falconry, archery, e-biking, gorge hike, etc) for an extra charge. And while the staff/guides for these activities were very professional, the cost was simply too high for what we got. For example, we paid nearly $300 to watch and learn about falcon handling and hunting. What we got was a 50-yard walk into the woods as the handler allowed his falcon to jump from his gloved arm to nearby branches and back. Then we took pictures. The best bang for the buck was the gorge/waterfall hike. All in all, very glad we visited the Homestead but will likely only return for a specific event.
We had a wonderful stay at The Homestead. The Omni should be commended for restoring and maintaining so many historical Inns.
The hotel is beautiful and you feel the history in the building. There is worn quality to the hotel, but that is part of the charm.
There are many activities to entertain families of all ages. While we had a wonderful romantic 2 nights? We could see how it could also be a wonderful family getaway spot
The resort is beautiful and the experience luxurious. Highlights were the Jefferson dining room steak house and relaxing pool. Loved the falconry experience and the guided waterfall tour with Brian who was such a knowledgeable outdoorsman and so charming and funny
I had a great stay in Omni Homestead resort in hot springs VA . I would like to say special thank you to front desk advisor Komang Sutwna Putra for helping me with my room restoration and welcoming me with the Omni experience. His professional and friendly attitude made my stayed easy and special
Thank you so much Putra!!!
We stayed for two nights to celebrate a very special occasion. The resort’s surroundings are splendid, our room was beautiful, and the reception, concierge, and bell staff were all professional and polite. We also had a wonderful spa day enjoying the natural hot springs and sauna, which was a highlight of our stay.
Unfortunately, our experience with housekeeping was extremely disappointing.
We were out enjoying the hotel facilities most of the day and returned around 4:20 p.m., only to find that our room had not been cleaned. After calling reception, a housekeeper came to the room. She did not speak English, which by itself would not have been an issue, but it made communication more difficult. I showed her stains on the blanket that appeared to have been left by the previous guest and asked that it be changed. She nodded and seemed to understand.
A housekeeping manager then came and repeatedly asked whether we wanted the room cleaned or just the blankets, despite my explaining several times that we wanted both the room cleaned and the stained blankets replaced. What made the situation particularly unpleasant was her rude, impatient, and commanding tone. Rather than trying to calmly clarify the request, she repeatedly questioned us in a way that felt increasingly impatient and confrontational.
While I was sitting on the balcony eating, she then told us in a commanding manner that we had to leave the room so housekeeping could clean. I hurried to gather my belongings and leave, while she continued reminding us that we needed to get out of the room.
Later, the reception manager told us that we actually did not need to leave the room, including while sitting on the balcony.
This was especially upsetting because we were tired and hungry after a full day of activities and were celebrating a special occasion. What should have been a relaxing and memorable stay was unnecessarily turned into a stressful and unpleasant experience.
The resort itself is beautiful, and the spa and front-of-house staff were excellent. However, I hope management will seriously address the housekeeping staff’s communication, professionalism, and guest-service training, particularly the importance of treating guests with patience and courtesy.
1. I requested a pack and play before we arrived, but it wasn't in our room when we got there. I had to ask again, and when it was finally delivered, it wasn't set up. We couldn't figure out the assembly ourselves after several minutes of trying, so I had to call again for someone to come help us.
2. The equipment in the room was old and inconsistent. The hairdryer only worked at one angle, making it unreliable. The shower was also strange — I had to wiggle it around just to get the water flowing. There was also something making a beeping noise at certain intervals that we couldn't identify. Additionally, the previous guest had left an alarm set for 6 am, which woke us up. I'd expect the hotel to reset things like that before a new guest arrives.
3. There were ants in the bathroom. After we complained, the front desk said they'd send a service team to check, but no one ever came. We had to live with the ants for our entire stay.
4. While dining at The Woody, I found a dead fly in my tap water. I'd expect better than that.
5. When we checked out, we waited 40 minutes for valet to bring our car around — at 10:30 am, which isn't even a busy time.
We had an absolutely wonderful visit to the Omni Homestead. It was an extremely kid-friendly resort, but there was also fantastic food, beverages, and amenities (such as world class golf and the spa) that the adults enjoyed. We will definitely be coming back.
We had an enjoyable stay at The Homestead. There were definite pluses and minuses.
The Good:
The resort is lovely and in a very picturesque location. This was our first trip to the state of Virginia and the scenery did not disappoint.
Our room was very spacious and comfortable. It was clean and offered a Keurig coffee machine and mini fridge. Bed was very comfortable.
The staff was very helpful and friendly. Check in was quick and easy. Check out was also easy to do online.
We used some of the self-guided hiking trails and thy were great. The Deerlick trail offered a great view of the resort from atop one of the nearby mountains. We also saw several deer and a bunch of orange newts.
The grounds were well kept and beautiful. Lots of places to sit and enjoy the views and people watch. The lawn was alive each night with families enjoying food, drinks and smores.
We traveled as a couple but this resort is very family friendly. We saw kids of all ages having a blast. And several people enjoying vacation with their dogs.
The best part for us were the pools and water parks. All were well kept and a lot of fun. The indoor pool was the quietest and we took advantage of it being open 24-hours on a cool morning. Otherwise we spent most of our time at the lazy river and outdoor pool. Staff at the pool were attentive and very friendly. There were always plenty of tubes to go around and the only time the seats filled was Saturday afternoon which was by far the busiest day we saw while there. Do make sure to partake in the rubber ducky lazy river race. It was hilarious.
Highly recommend a trip to the warm pools. It was fantastic and easily worth the price of admission.
I also recommend a trip to Troddenvale Farm if you want to go off campus. The ciders were great and the food they had as part of their weekly pop-up Friday event was delicious.
The Needs Improvement:
Housekeeping seemed stretched very thin. Our room didn't get service until after 5pm every day. Towels and water did get replenished but coffee and coffee supplies didn't. And one note, our room had sinks outside of the shower/toilet room but no towel racks. You couldn't hang a hand towel by the sink at all.
We tried eating at the Main Dining Room one night but were turned away. A women in old jeans and a tank top was sat before us but we were told we couldn't enter because my husband had shorts on. They were dress shorts and he also had on a collared shirt and looked more polished than anyone in jeans. Seemed like a strange place to draw the line. Be warned though.
We ate at Woody's and Jefferson's Pub while there for dinners. Woody's food was delicious. We sat at the bar and the staff there seemed stretched thin also. Two bartenders were covering drinks for the entire restaurant as well as bar seating which included a very large party.
I do recommend making reservations in advance. All the restaurants were busy (with the exception of the main dining room) and only had late time slots open for walk ins. Bar seating is first-come, first-served.
Double-check your charges when you use the bar/restaurants. We found a couple times that the room number was wrong on ours or the bill wasn't correct.
The Main St just off the resort is lacking. Two restaurants were permanently closed and there were only a couple shops. We did eat and drink at the brewery. Beer was very good and the food was typical bar fare.
Saturday is by far the busiest day. The line at the coffee shop Saturday morning went out into the hallway and moved at a snails pace. And chairs at the water park were gone by lunchtime. The other days we had no issues with either.
I would likely go again if there was a great deal being offered. It was pricey and we keep going back and forth on whether it was worth the cost. We did have a lot of fun and if you don't mind the cost it was a unique place to visit.
Extremely expensive for what you get. The "extra " fees (parking, taxes, resort fees, etc.) were $180 per night! If you wanted to use the indoor pool or pool in the adult/spa area, another $85 per day per person.
Don’t bother coming if you have any food allergies! My son has an egg allergy and nobody seemed to know what had eggs or not. The room was nice but bathrooms need to be updated. We were promised an in room amenity for my husband’s birthday but that never happened even though we waited 1.5 hours after the promised check-in time to even get our room. I’m glad we only stayed for the weekend since I was getting sick or their food. It just tasted like cafeteria food for 10x the price! There are no other food options outside of the hotel unless you want bar food and reservations at the restaurants were impossible to get so we were stuck with in room dining. What makes up for the abysmal food were the 3 pools they offered on site.
Great resort! Beautiful well kept property. Staff is friendly and there are a lot of activities offered. Food was very good and the service was fabulous. My only suggestion is to have an adult only dining option.
Stunning property with kind and helpful staff and always more to explore. I've loved every visit to the homestead and always leave wanting to spend more time. The food and drink are worth writing home about but the sense of calm and beauty all around you are truly otherworldly.
Many lovely things about this hotel but one thing is in dire need of management attention. The pool/lazy river chairs. We could not find three empty chairs. So many chairs with towels on them and no people around. People sitting near do not know if people are coming back. Staff says can’t help. Because people aren’t required to return towels and kids don’t clean up after themselves and some adults
Suggestion: towels signed out to room numbers and if not returned a charge on account for the towel. Requires a staff person but worth it to keep chairs available and the place cleaned up. For the nightly rate I don’t expect to work so hard to get three chairs for three adults/rooms.
Mountain views, beautiful landscaping, breakfast buffet, history tour was excellent by Andre.
Cascades hike was great, great guide Brian. We did it last year as well. Enjoyed the puzzles.
Would not recommend unfortunately if looking for a peaceful getaway. Would be better if you were a family with younger children. I think we went during kids eat free week (which was not advertised when i booked), as a result, resort was PACKED. Pool area is smaller than expected with not even close to enough pool
chairs for size of resort. No attendants to monitor use of pool chairs or even signs warning against ‘reserving’ pool chairs. People would come early, leave their towels and leave and come back whenever. Also on saturday there was a loud DJ by the pool, made it not relaxing at all. My room had an ENORMOUS spider as soon as we walked in and another bug later. Spa was a great experience. Staff was so friendly and there were a ton of amenities.
If golfing at the Cascades, know that shuttles to/ from can take 20+ minutes to arrive (as in waiting around for 20+ minutes for a shuttle) and there is NO cellular service- best advice is to maybe take your own car to control your ability to leave.
We dined at Audubon for friday prime rib night which was delicious except they had a seafood boil section that only opened around 7:20-7:30pm? Which was at the end of our meal (reservation was at 6:00p) so we couldn’t really enjoy it because we were so full. I would’ve liked to enjoy seafood boil. Also had breakfast buffet here. It was included in my CSR booking. If you’re a larger party or party of two, you may be seated in the event space room which was dark, cold and loud. The main dining space is bright and beautifully decorated and perfect for breakfast. The event space was not great. We also dined at Jefferson’s. Had a reservation but saw how beautiful it was outside and requested to seat outside but they told me they were all booked despite there being the same open tables outside throughout our dinner. Finally, we also dined at Woody’s. no need for reservation for lunch. great for lunch and food aside from shrimp fra diavolo was good but they kept asking for our phone number when we checked in with hostess stand. not sure why we couldn’t just sit and eat (we fill out information on the check anyway). Also front desk at check in had a long line, we waited 15+ minutes.
Overall really would not recommend. What we payed was not worth the overall service and experience.
We had a wonderful time staying at the Homestead, a beautiful and historic place. Our favorite part of our trip was the hike to see the Homestead's waterfalls in the gorge. It was fantastic--- thanks to our tour guide, Brian! He has a lifetime of knowledge about nature and a fun way of teaching. He had us all laughing and learning as we made our way on this breathtaking hike. Brian not only knows about the plants and animals you'll see, but also about the Homestead's history. I would recommend Brian's tour to anyone who would enjoy a beautiful, fun and educational hike in the woods. It's gorgeous and Brian is a gem!
We enjoyed our prior visit when it was an adult resort. This time we enjoyed the soak at the warm springs pool but were disappointed in the rest of the experience. We felt like we were staying at an overpriced holiday inn. It would have been more enjoyable if they made some time for adult only swimming at the outdoor pool. At the upscale restaurant kids were running around and they didn’t want to seat us at first because my husband was wearing dress shorts…. Kind of a mixed message. Also, they never mentioned a dress code when making the reservation. And we could not get into the restaurant we originally wanted at a reasonable time even though the restaurants were only about 20 to 25% full. Also, some of the staff seemed very inexperienced and mumbled when talking with us.
