The Aircon did not work in the room and reported to reception, asked for a fan and was told this would be sent to the room and it was not. The temp was hottest on record for that time of year so you can imagine having restrictors on widows how very uncomfortable the room was due to the heat, so the service was very disappointing
Drinks were very expensive at the bar paying £7 for a tin of Guinness not even a pint for my partner was a little excessive so drinks were kept to minimal. There was very little choice of draught larger/ales available .
The breakfast was awful eggs were dry, bacon undercooked, sausages overcooked and generally not good for the £15 paid per person, really was not worth this and would have been better eating out in a café as would have got better quality.
The room was distressed with paint chipping of the skirting, marks on walls and grubby marks on the wardrobes which felt substandard and had better in a 3 star coaching inn,
The Evening meal was passable but not the best, we ate because we were very hungry. Chip/fries seem to be served with everything in order to bulk out your plate even when the meal ordered really should not have fries in my opinion such as the lasagna that I ordered, seemed a little odd to me .
I had slayed at the castle prior to covid and the experience was so very different and the castle has that castle feel with suits of armour that seems to have been relegated to the store room on this visit and the castle has not been presented to its best.
The library bar was closed to the public now which gave that extra special feel on a previous visit and only available for those having corporate events or weddings, Such a shame to deny the majority the experience of such a nice room.
The Chairs in the outside area were terrible with holes in the rattan seats in most of them and generally the furniture was very tatty and caught my lace skirt on one which now has a pull, not happy at all. A lot of renovation is needed .
Lack of choice of ales / larger. , plus the price. The substandard rooms, lack of service when requested, the undercooked and overcooked buffet breakfast which was overpriced for the standard we received . Chips served with everything, The disappointment of the lack of the Castle feel that we had experienced prior. Poor value for money as we were expecting so much more with it being a Castle.
Very pleasant staff in all areas throughout our stay. Large room. Goid sausages for breakfast.
Very small issues showing lack of attention to detail in a supposedly better room :nowhere to put things down in the bathroom, no holder for toilet roll, just one teaspoon on the tea tray!! Breakfast area tricky to negotiate .
Dreadful service for dinner..food good serving staff very pleasant but waited much too long between courses & gave up trying to order dessert.
Fantastic place to stay
The original historical setting and undone up interiors which give the place a unique back to the nineteen fifties or even thirties feel. The very opposite to an anonymous spic and span modern hotel. Characterful and cosy. Grounds great.
Restaurant too dark and ban on eating evening meals outside a bit shortsighted given dank interior!
The history of the castle.
No lifts, but I understand it is an old building
Dirty underwear in the room , wouldn’t accommodate my allergies, mold and leaking bath , payed for
Food and didn’t receive it
The location is just perfect, surrounded by rolling countryside, genuine medieval walls, fabulous original features, real world history. Peacocks, rabbits and sheep wandered freely in the gardens. Extremely comfortable bed, great shower and bath, air conditioning that actually works. The staff were all very helpful, friendly and couldn’t do more to help us. The food was exquisite.
Absolutely nothing
The peacocks, the view, and the cheerful receptionists
Breakfast - no porridge and the coffee soon ran out and was not immediately replaced
Great location
Very very tired, not overly sure there is anyone actually “managing” the place. It felt like none of the staff either knew what they were doing nor cared that much. It would benefit from some money being spent on it as could be a stunning venue. Even a bit of background music in the restaurant would go a long way
Het is een prachtige en bijzondere locatie en niet duur.
Het kasteel heeft echt onderhoud nodig. Alles is in verval. Het ontbijt en diner zou ik hier overslaan, dat is echt beneden de maat.
We stayed at the castle when the weather was beautiful, so the grounds looked stunning. However., if you take a proper walk around the grounds , they are poorly maintained and full of litter.
The bed was very comfortable.
The castle is dirty , especially the outside hot tub area.
The place is in some desperate need of some maintenance and TLC.
Bar was shut at 10am and we told to go to Wetherspoons.
Ruthin town is lovely , but we couldn’t get dinner anywhere, apart from the Wetherspoons .
Breakfast was poor in the castle also.
Beautiful grounds, helpful staff
Room was a little basic, but clean and comfortable
Mooi kasteel.
De bedden waren echt van matige kwaliteit, je voelde de veren van het matras. Bij het douchen wordt de grond erg nat.
Gorgeous grounds you can freely walk are amazing and so is the wild life, the staff are beyond a joy to interact with and are a credit to the hotel, the room we stayed in was a suite it was well laid out and decore matched the hotel vibe and was better value than suites at the grovenour in chester. Onsite bar and restuarant for evening is pricey but worth the experience
Bed felt like it had a £40 steel mattress for a suite room it should of been better, i would skip the breakfast its vast but its buffet and mass cooked so poor quality.
The staff is really friendly, and the landscape really nice
More clarity about the spa and services included in the fee
Location and comfortable room were great. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. Evening dinner was very fresh and excellent.
Breakfast was okay. Food was good but although we arrived at 8.30 not much was left. They had run out of certain items.
Historic hotel in lovely setting . The peacocks were stunning
Some parts need updating. Staff were lovely
