No issues at all and staff all so friendly..Great location,, superb WIS recently added to room offer
Nothing at all..as described on website.
We enjoyed the whole experience good excellent room clean plenty of space nice view over the lake good position for shops and all entertainment
Paid parking
The room we had was absolutely amazing!! Definitely been done up recently as it was very well looked after, clean and tidy and the view was amazing
Great value for money
floors are quite creaky when walking through the corridors and the lift is super dated and sounds like it’s about to fall apart, not sure if it’s a fault but our toilet was horrendous!! When flushing it’s a horrible loud noise that comes on 4 times even when the toilet was flushed. Girlfriend was in the shower and literally every 20 seconds it would make a loud noise… awful toilet system
Size of the room.
The booking and pictures did not reflect the condition of the building or accommodation and the tinned fruit for breakfast.

We hadn't stayed in an older building before and did not know what to expect. Check in was easy once we had booked the stay in the App, we were shown how to pay for parking which was £5 a night (£1 cheaper than local carpark and on street) and we were allocated a room. We were given room 344, on the 3rd floor at the far end of the building. There is a lift which goes all the way up, as well as stairs. The room was on the back of the building and had a view over the rooves in town.
The room itself was nicely decorated, modern, but with an older twist. Huge bathroom with walk-in shower, very nice, room was plenty big with a nice wardrobe and large television. Bed was very comfy, slept very well.
It was quite warm in the room - we noticed a vent outside and figured maybe we were near the boiler room or something and that was why. The desk fan helped.
The carpets are a little run down downstairs and there were some stains, but nothing was dirty and it definitely didn't ruin anything or put us off.
The staff we did meet were very helpful, especially the young man on reception.
The gardens just over the road were great to walk round, even on a chilly day! Full of swans and flowers. The local shops are just on the street behind, 10 minute walk if that, loads of restaurants to choose from.
Overall we enjoyed our stay and if we happen to be in the area again would no doubt choose to stay here, thank you!
Only knocked off 1 point for the reason that the room was incredibly hot, as others have said, even with all the radiators off, and windows open brought in midges haha, but they did provide a desk fan which helped.
And we had some horrid neighbours across the hall who were extremely loud, and came back intoxicated, wandering the hallways in the early hours, and they were rude to us as we walked past their room.
Perfect location. Friendly staff. Nice room space.
Pay for parking. No meals served on Sunday. Not friendly at all to dogs. They’re not allowed in any dining spaces. You’re treated like second class having to walk miles with your plate of food. No facilities for pets.
Location and it was friendly but too warm in the rooms
Beautiful room and great bathroom
It smelt like dogs outside my room and it was boiling hot as the bathroom heating stayed on 24hrs
The staff were pleasant. The lady behind the bar friendly and efficient. The shower room was modern and clean.
The hotel is badly in need of complete refurbishment. It has obviously been a very beautiful hotel in the past and could be again. There are some good original features, leaded windows, lovely old staircase, high ceilings and original cornices. However the hotel has a very tired and worn appearance throughout.
It was as expected
A long way to my room from reception
Location
Couldn’t open the window and heating was in continuously the room was far too hot so struggled to sleep , bed was very too firm .
Did not have breakfast
Location was fabulous.
Staff on duty good customer service skills.
Nothing
Enjoyed entertainment and staff was friendy
All ok happy with the stay
We had a fantastic stay, 😀
The Royal Clifton has real potential — the sea views are genuinely lovely and the location is hard to beat.
However, the interior is in serious need of refurbishment. Everything feels very dated, and there is a noticeable musty smell throughout, particularly from the carpets, which suggests they are well overdue for replacement. With some investment and modernisation, this could be a really special hotel. I hope the owners consider bringing it up to the standard the location deserves.
