Shabby
Pros:

Nothing

Cons:

The room allocated to us number 30 was horrible. The room was shabby, various fixtures and fittings damaged. We had to go to reception to ask for an aerial connector to be able to use the TV. The out look from our window showing damaged roof too in desperate need of repair. Had we not been dashing off to a concert in the city that didn't finish till late evening I would not have stayed there. Spoke to reception about the state of the room this morning and asked for complaints form. None available had to put details on paper and management should contact me. That room is not fit to be let to paying customers.

Pleasant two-night stay
Pros:

We were there for a two-night stay. The staff were very polite and friendly. Check in was quick and simple. We had a nice big clean room. The bed was huge and all the facilities were available.

Cons:

The bulb over the bathroom sink is very low voltage and needs to be brighter so you can see yourself in the mirror. With the recent extreme hot weather could have done with a fan in the room. Overall we had no issues during our stay.

A very friendly place, just a little tired and in need of modernising. Would stay again.
Pros:

The room was very spacious, bed comfortable, just needs modernising as TV so small for the size of the room,

Cons:

The fan in the twin room was very dusty, when it was turned on dust flew everywhere.
Think the condiments need to be branded, feels cheap, no brown sauce, no tea spoons with the cups and saucers and had to ask - apparently in short supply, there were no tongs for the bread or croissants. The Milk in the jug for cereal had a film around the edge.
Need more fruit like bananas and need Marmite!

A hotel that was tired and in need of major upgrading that was probably once a top class hotel.
Pros:

Good points:
The receptionist ( the only member of staff we saw) was extremely helpful and pleasant.
The room was spacious
Very close to Chester centre
Supermarkets near by
Quiet location

Bad points:
Filthy, grubby, outdated, tatty, disgusting place to stay. We felt dirty. Had to clean ourselves. Windows broken, very tatty curtains with disgusting filthy marks all over them. Threadbare carpets. Peeling wallpaper. Grounds neglected. No staff around so it's not exactly a place to feel safe. Looked like a care home from outside.
Should be closed until money spent on it.We nearly left to go to another hotel, but we were only stating one night. We slept on top of the duvet, didn't dare sleep on the mattress.

Cons:

See above info as well. The swimming pool and spa were terrible. The swimming pool water was murky and contained too much chemical, the changing rooms/ showers were filthy. The spa pool had about 6 inches of water in it. You need to bring your own padlock for the lockers! There were no staff at all in the spa/pool area.

Great stay, would definitely stay again!
Pros:

Fab little 2 night stay here for a birthday trip to Chester, 5 minutes into Chester, 5 to the Zoo - the location was perfect. A wonderful touch of a birthday card, personal note and a little bottle of prosecco was in the room on arrival which was greatly appreciated!
We stayed in room 7 (twin), lovely clean room, the beds were comfy, quality linen, a separate shower and bath in a spacious bathroom, the housekeepers were lovely and checked if we needed anything after our first night. We are usually campers, but being my birthday decided to have a treat to a couple of nights in a hotel, having a swimming pool on site with gardens was what helped me choose this one. We managed to visit the pool twice during our stay, the pool and leisure area was a good size, with a seating area and loungers poolside, my son appreciated the raised platforms within the pool to adjust the depth giving his little legs a break. We also brought a frisbee with us and had fun playing in the gardens with it, it was very tranquil with the willow tree.
Loved the additional touch of the games trolley in the lounge area, me and my 6 year old loved playing Guess Who whilst we waited for our food after a busy day at Chester Zoo and an hour or so in the pool.
We would definitely visit again!

Cons:

None of these took away from the stay, we would definitely come back in the future, just little niggles really..
I have chronic back pain so I was really looking forward to utilising the jacuzzi after busy days out but unfortunately this was not in use at all during our stay.
They seemed to run out of lemonade, I purchased a pint but the syrup had ran out, after I told the server a couple of times it was just the syrup I was just advised to get a bottled drink instead (I've worked in hotels, ran cricket and golf club bars and restaurants for many years, it takes about 30 seconds to change over the syrup box so was a little unsure why but just rolled with it)
It was a little dated in places (the wardrobe in the room had a broken hinge so the door dropped, a lamp shade that felt like being straight was an olympic sport and a very christmassy sparkly bauble collection in the fireplace at reception, I didn’t see them advertising Christmas, it looked more like a permanent fixture)
Our room looked out into a mini courtyard with scaffolding overhead as opposed to the lovely gardens out back but I understand all hotels have quirky layouts we just drew a short straw - it did have the advantage of being closer to the stairs for quick access so swings and roundabouts really - we weren't staying for the view out of the window.
