Amrâth Hotel DuCasque

We stayed at the Amrâth Hotel DuCasque in Maastricht from 23–25 October, and I have to say, the location is absolutely fantastic! Right in the heart of Maastricht, overlooking the square, with a convenient car park just across the road. You really couldn’t ask for a better location.
Unfortunately, that’s where most of the four-star experience ended.
We paid approximately €550 for two nights, so naturally, we expected a certain standard. The hotel itself was reasonably clean, but very dated and clearly in need of some TLC. Four stars? Perhaps a few decades ago.
Before arriving, I had emailed the hotel specifically requesting an accessible room, as my elderly mother is very unsteady on her feet and has difficulty walking. Unfortunately, nobody bothered to reply, and the room we were given was anything but accessible.
It was absolutely tiny. The double bed practically filled the entire room, leaving just enough space to shuffle around it sideways. We had two small cabin suitcases, the kind you’d take on a budget airline, and even finding space for those was a challenge. One ended up on the only chair in the room because otherwise we wouldn’t have been able to move around. I’ve stayed in larger walk-in wardrobes!
More concerning was the bathroom. It was incredibly cramped, with a step at the entrance that my mother nearly fell over. Getting from her side of the bed to the toilet required some rather impressive sideways manoeuvring, which is hardly ideal for someone with mobility difficulties.
My son was staying at the same hotel a few weeks ago and had paid around €70 per night for a room that was easily three times the size of ours. So clearly, more spacious rooms existed. We weren’t asking for luxury, simply enough space for my mother to move around safely.
I was also genuinely concerned about how we would have managed in an emergency. With such restricted space and my mother’s limited mobility, getting out quickly would have been extremely difficult.

Was donker. Het zou fijner zijn als er meer verlichting was.

We betaalden meer dan €250 per nacht en verbleven 3 nachten. We kregen een zogenaamde upgrade naar een zolderkamer. Na de lift naar de 4e etage moesten we via een steil, onverlicht trappetje naar boven. Moesten zelf onze koffers sjouwen. Mijn man is 76 en heel slecht ter been. Het bed stond strak tegen de muur. Moesten rond het bed binnen 15 cm naar de andere kant schuifelen. Mijn man ontbijt wel, maar ik drink alleen koffie. Mochten daarom niet naar de ontbijtzaal want ik zou weleens stiekem toch wat willen eten. Schandalig! Laatste dag geen grote handdoeken. Onderlaken paste niet dus verschoof helemaal. Nooit meer terug!
