Couldn't ask for anything more, if you're planning to stay in the area this meets all requirements
Pros:

Place was sensational and ideal for dogs. Staff super friendly and food great. On site parking, grounds to wander round and the hot shower really hit the mark after a long walk

Cons:

It's not a negative cause it's what you want and expect from a lake district accommodation. Yes, it's dated but that its charm. The building is stunning and repairs not as simple as lick of paint

Pros:

Breakfast was very good, the room was a good size, the building itself was great, the garden was also very nice.

Cons:

Wow, where to start..ok, so this was a magnificent grade b listed mansion in the middle of nowhere, with a lovely ancient stone wall, and wonderful garden. Unfortunately, it has been left to rot so its kinda falling apart, both inside and out.
It is crying out for a handyman to be recruited to sort ot the problems around the place, and then it would be so much better..and it doesn't require a lot to improve it. For example, as soon as we arrived at our room, the door handle was so loose, its practically hanging off.That made the room feel a little unsafe and exposed.
Also, our basin tap was facing the wrong direction, the wallpaper was peeling off and had great big stains everywhere, a large chandelier was missing from the dining room, the windows were cracked everywhere, and the brackets and pullies broken, there were stone tiles missing from tha balcony outside, and lots of little things like that...like I said, little repairs that could be done for very little money..

Additionally, I would really like to mention the journey to the hotel- it was both terrifying and magnificent at the same time, some parts very steep, other parts narrow, windey and very uneven, up and down mountain terrain, deep in the Cumbria countryside- I definitely would not recommend driving through when its dark!..however, in complete contrast to that place, the town where the hotel resides is literally the worst place I have ever been to, anywhere in the world!..is is so run down, and dull, lifeless, and neglected, I feel sorry for the poor folk who live there..
So all in all, I would rate the hotel 3 stars at best, and the location, minus 20!

I’ll return if there’s wifi which works and a bigger TV.
Pros:

Beautiful old building with original features and beautiful gardens with surrounding views breathtaking. Parking great and breakfast good. Some staff were very helpful & friendly.

Cons:

No fridge in the room, small TV, wifi advertised as part of package but it didn’t work in our room. Curtly told there was no solution.

Pros:

Ruime kamer en vriendelijk geholpen. Kamer was te ver voor mijn man en kregen een Kamer beganegrond. Ook waren we een dag eerder dan we hadden geboekt maar was geen probleem.

Ondanks allemaal nieuw personeel was 1 dame die ons nog herkende van vorig jaar.

Cons:

Dat het hotel was overgenomen en we waren er vorig jaar ook maar geen bekende meer werkte. De intieme sfeer was verdwenen.

Great base for a week end exploring Keswick and Ennerdale.
Pros:

Lovely manor house decor, perfect location for what we wanted to do, we also got a surprise upgrade to a suite with a four poster bed! Our room was very clean and very comfortable. There are no restaurants in Cleator nor pubs serving evening meals within walking distance so half board was perfect, and a must have. There were 7 options for main on the evening menu, and a vegetarian/vegan menu was also available. There is a well stocked bar, so perfect for relaxing after a day spent exploring. The evening meal was served until 8pm, we enjoyed the lovely restaurant room and the food was very good. Breakfast was served from 7:30 am, great for walkers. The price we paid was excellent value for money. The location is very quiet, we slept very well.

Cons:

The service was very slow on the second night and the sausage at breakfast could have been cooked differently, still good quality and probably due to staffing issues.

Such a shame as it could be amazing. Facilities and food are shocking
Pros:

Reception staff were great.
Location is solid for the coast to coast walk although next time I do it I will 100% stay in Ennerdale Bridge.

Definitely the worst meal I had on my entire trip
I had the fish and chips- came soggy and in what looked like pakora batter.
Hotel needs some money spending on it.
Such a shame as the location and the actual building are great- but it’s so so tired.

Pros:

Don’t expect a modern country hotel, would return but not before checking alternatives first.
