Lakeside Bliss in the Heart of Big Bear
Pros:

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Marina Riviera for four nights in July and had a wonderful experience from start to finish.

The rooms were comfortable, quiet, and cozy — exactly what you want after a full day exploring the mountains. The highlight for us was the balcony, where we could sit and take in stunning views of the lake and surrounding mountains at any time of day.

The hotel's amenities really added to the experience. Having the De La Nonna restaurant on-site was a treat — we loved being able to sit out on the deck for a meal or a drink without having to go anywhere. And in the evenings, relaxing by the fire pits with a cocktail in hand became a favorite ritual.

The staff deserve a special mention — every single person we encountered was friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming. They made us feel right at home.

As for location, it's hard to beat. Sitting right on the shore of Big Bear Lake is special enough, but the hotel is also just a short walk from Big Bear Lake Village, making it easy to explore shops, restaurants, and attractions without ever needing to get in the car.

Highly recommend!

We enjoyed our stay and the restaurant on site.
Pros:

I love how dog friendly Hotel Marina Riviera is! We ate dinner at the onsite restaurant which was so good and had a lovely view. We enjoyed the fireplaces and the pool area. The staff was very friendly. We would definitely return again.

Cons:

A couple sticky spots on refrigerator, bunk bed and our t.v. screen was dirty.

Overall it was just ok
Pros:

Property is beautifully landscaped. The bathroom shower was nice as the shower head was high up enough that tall people don't have to kneel down to wash their hair. I was surprised how "sound proof" the rooms are - most hotels you can hear the people in the room next to you like their in your room, but we couldn't hear our neighbors at all. The location is great for walking to Big Bear Village and other restaurants nearby (PJs & Waffles was yummy breakfast).

Cons:

Housekeeping wasn't great and they were very slow to respond. The mattress was terrible.

The bed was like sleeping on an ironing board. My wife got zero sleep. They offered no help.
Pros:

Location was good. Nice view of the lake. Room was clean, though really dark (the walls and ceiling all painted a drak green. Bring a flashlight if you're old like us. Dinner in the restaurant was good. Staff was extremely nice, friendly, attentive and respectful.

Cons:

Parking lot was full all the time. The place hosts a very popular happy hour that fills the lot, which is not big enough to accommodate paying guests. They will direct you to the overflow dirt lot. If you get a room on the top (thrid) floor, be prepared to climb stairs with your luggage. The elevator only serves the first and second floor.

The bed was like trying to sleep on an ironing board. We toughed it out the first night, but could not sleep. Next morning we asked for another room with a different bed. Manager said no. Beds all the same and all rooms booked anyway. I pointed out they did have another room available, because I checked online. Manager said it would have the same beds (just different sizes) and they would charge us an additional $170/night because it was a bigger room. We asked for a refund on our second night, so we could leave and find another hotel where we could actually get some sleep. Manager said no. They only give you credit for another stay (we had no intention of ever coming back). Eventually, they agreed to send a housekeeper to put more comforters on the bed underneath the sheets.

RE: Breakfast -- We asked if we they had anything we could grab and go. The bartender (who was the only staff member present in the otherwise empty dining room) went to check and said they could warm us up a frozen muffin. We passed and went elsewhere.

Disappointed
Pros:

There were a few good things about this hotel, but unfortunately, more negatives than positives.

The highlight was the amazing view of Big Bear Lake from the balcony. The location was also excellent—within walking distance of shops, restaurants, and other attractions. The hotel amenities, including the restaurant and sauna, were nice as well.

The biggest disappointment was the billing. The price shown when I booked was not what I ended up paying. My final bill was more than $75 higher, not including the $50 deposit that I was told would be refunded by noon. That refund never came as promised.

Another frustration was the lack of a coffee maker in the room. I was told complimentary coffee was available in the lobby, but when I went down, it wasn’t ready. I was told to come back at 8:00 a.m. for coffee and pastries. When I returned, there was coffee but no pastries. Then I was told to come back again at 9:00 a.m.

For the amount of money I paid to stay here, I expected basic amenities like an in-room coffee maker or at least reliable complimentary coffee in the lobby. While the location and lake views were beautiful, the unexpected charges and poor customer service left me disappointed

Cons:

We arrived at Hotel Marina in Big Bear and were immediately met with an extremely inappropriate and crude anti-LGBTQ remark/joke from a member of the front desk staff that we did not find funny or amusing whatsoever. Even if it was intended to be a joke, it was extremely inappropriate and derogatory.

When we finally entered the assigned room, a cockroach was running across the floor and disappeared into the wall within seconds of us opening the door. We immediately called the front desk to report this and requested another room, but were told none were available as they were sold out.
So, we attempted to give the room one last chance, but within minutes of us starting to put stuff away, my husband opened the mini refrigerator and two additional cockroaches ran out from behind it.

At that point, we determined the room did not meet basic standards of cleanliness, sanitation, or habitability and decided to immediately leave the property. We turned our keys in and did not end up staying the night.

What was most disappointing was not only the condition of the room, but also the lack of any sort of response or acknowledgment from the hotel afterward.

I would not stay here ever again nor would I recommend it to anyone. This place was always known as the roach motel of Big Bear, and apparently, even with slapping some new paint on the walls and adding a fire pit, it’s now just a more expensive roach motel.
