Great stay!
Resort should have been closed during repairs. No terrace looking at scaffolding. Room was dirty and smelly. Carpets needed a deep cleaning as well as the walls Internet was so slow that it was useless. Door to room did not have a secondary latch. Coffee pot was left dirty. Missing utensils and glasses in kitchen. Would have never went there had we known the condition of construction. If Hilton is taking the resort over they should have at least maintained the property or close it.
It was a very quiet relaxing experience!
We loved our stay in the post-season time - no crowds and good availability of everything we wanted to do. Our only complaint is that the resort has few amenities and due to a balcony repair project, the balconies were off limits. Otherwise good location for a Virginia Beach stay.
We had a nice stay, didn't get to use the pool as it was windy and raining. The only complaint I have is that the adjoining room was not locked. My 3 year old opened it, luckily nobody was in it. We had a great deal of difficulty getting it locked. We finally were able to do so, but again it was only secure because WE locked it from our room. Seems like a security issue to me. I told the front desk upon checking out and the young man blew me off, I had interrupted a personal conversation with another co worker. The young lady at check in was exceptionally friendly.
There was construction i progress which did not allow us to use the complete room and balcony.
Balconies are closed though they don't tell you that in advance so don't pay for a room with a balcony, it's a waste of money. Also, don't choose a room with a king size bed, they don't have sheets to fit those beds so you lay on the mattress cover, which in our room also had dirty/used tissues under the blankets and pillows. And don't plan to use the pools or hot tubs unless you want to swim/soak in duck poop as they leave it in all of the pools/hot tubs and all over the sidewalks.
Paid for a room on booking.com, $700 for 2 nights so we thought we were going to get a decent experience, but boy were we wrong. When we arrived we were put in a room that didn't match the description at all, nor the pictures or ammenities. The place was shabby and seemed to need a lot of love. They aparrently been repairing the decks for over a year. Gates to the pools were zipped-tied together because they were broken (isn't that some kind of fire hazzard. If you like the sounds of load motorbikes all night then this is for you! The one window we got had a beautiful view of the hallway. We were trying to make family memories on a great vacation and Turtle Cay definitely gave us a time we won't forget.
Property used to be nice but has declined dramatically within the last 2 years. Anyone want to buy my timeshare?
After reading all the reviews I was scared some of the photos they posted we're not very nice I found a lot of things that people said very horrible I guess I should have looked at the reviews before I booked our room but thank God I didn't I stayed here with my son two nights the moment we checked in the office was very nice I couldn't wait to check into the room because I'm telling you the reviews were scary our room was very clean the sofa bed was excellent the bathroom was very clean the sheets were clean everything was very clean I did not see anything wrong and everything everybody wrote did not match my stay in my room I was very happy with the room the pool area excellent I'm not an expert at investigating rooms thoroughly but I do look at the cleanliness I do check the tubs the showers the sheets I felt like I could walk barefoot it and not be afraid if I had to stay again in Virginia it would definitely be this place I would call this the junior Hilton although the balconies were being redone the view to the pool was beautiful I enjoyed watching the ducks in the pool laugh out loud I rate this 100% the location was great couldn't go wrong
The Restaurant across the street chix I recommend the rib eye was delicious
Check in required two extra trips to the front desk. Our keys didn’t work and the second time back to the desk the clerk realized he’d given us the wrong room number. We were only here for one night. The room was clean and spacious enough for 4 adults. They provided body lotion and shampoo but no shower gel. There was one tiny bar of soap, we didn’t request any products that may have been on us. It was fine for our one night in Virginia Beach.
There was a lot of rainfall, but my family and I woke up to a leaking bathroom & leaking in the sitting area, we were on the top floor(3) so that tells me that the roof needs repair. The front desk personnel told me to let the engineer check out my room to see if we needed to change rooms!! Well we did now this room was dusty and black spots( look like mold was around the vents in the ceiling. I was told that this place is closing in October till next March 2025 for repairs, I wish i knew that before booking, my 5night stay I would have made other arrangements. You need to be closed now!
We stayed at Turtle Cay about five years ago and had a good time. It was a bit dated, but who cares. Good location one block from the beach and decent rooms. So we came back with good expectations.
We noticed some reviews talking about construction so we figured they were working on improving the resort. Seems good, right?
Sadly, this was not true. The "construction" is scaffolded external balconies that would otherwise collapse. And there is no construction. The scaffolding has been there for about two years now. Check the pictures.
Furthermore, as we checked in, some other families were told they could not check in because one of the stairs in the complex had detached from the building and since that's also a fire escape, certain rooms were not allowed to be occupied by the fire chief. This had been the case for about a week or two, but the resort had not thought of warning those guests. Upon arrival they were told they had to check in on a neighboring property, where they had to check out again the next day at 10am, only to be able to check in at 4pm at Turtle Cay. To add insult to injury, this news was brought to these poor guests by some hardened front desk staff in their 20s and no management was present. Welcome to Turtle Cay!
Luckily, we could check in so we did. Upon checking in our room, I noticed a few crumbs on the kitchen counter top, so I took a quick swipe with the new sponge to clean them off. Sadly, the sponge turned brown, so we bought some cleaning wipes when doing groceries to clean the place. Those turned nicely brown as well. YUK. Not only the kitchen was dirty, so were the other tables. And the sheets had stains. As did the towels. And the replacement towels. YUK YUK YUK. There also was only one single roll of toilet paper for the week. When we asked for some more, we got another single roll. Thanks!
We were in room 109A which does have a balcony. Sadly it points straight at the intersection of 6th and Pacific behind the resort. Since the balcony points at an angle of 45 degrees, it appears like all the cars that race by are about to ram into the resort.
Other than that we had a nice week, but when we checked out a day early, the front desk staff understood the message between the lines.
BTW, we want to commend the front desk staff. They are extremely helpful under difficult circumstances and clearly under orders to remain polite and helpful under all circumstances. They did provide us with a cookie sheet and a replacement frying pan since the old one was shaped like a wok.
Finally, was all misery? No. Because you don't come to Virginia Beach to sit inside. The beach is great, the boardwalk is great, this resort is close to the Aquarium, and there's a bunch of really nice parks nearby for hiking and birding. First Landing SP, Back Bay NWR and False Cape SP are amazing. The latter is hard to get to though, so plan ahead. And if you like steel birds, then you have plenty to look at because off all the military planes from Oceana flying over. Also try a walk through the Vibe neighborhood with all the murals. Very nice. There's plenty of live music and good bars and restaurants as well.
The balconies are still closed because after 2 years they have not fixed them. They charge over $1100 maintenance per week for a one bedroom unit yet do not maintain the property. Hilton should be ashamed of themselves. As a member of this resort for 12 years I had hoped for better management. It seems like everytime management changes the resort gets worse.
We were very disappointed during our stay at Turtle Cay Resort. Everything from the room cleanliness, the staff and the amenities like the pool were terrible. Our room was not very clean and when asked after a few days to get it cleaned, we were told that we needed to pay $67 since we were staying only a week. We never experienced this type of charge at other resorts. The pool was the worst part. There were ducks there that the staff said were protected and couldn't be removed. I am sure there is an organization that can remove them properly and without hurting them. Their feces were everywhere and the attitude of the staff, when asked about cleaning it up, was 'We can't constantly clean the pool'. Well, I think you should do something since people are staying here and don't want to get sick or be near duck poop constantly. I think the staff are the real reason this place is in such disrepair. The attitudes of the staff are terrible. No one ever acted like they wanted to be there. We went with our kids to a slime making activity near the pool and one of the staff just sat there with his feet up on the table looking at his phone and never spoke to us. The other person I had to actually ask to tell us what to do. They were just not interested in their jobs. And you could tell that this is the case. For days I saw the same pool towel sitting on the same chair out by the pool. There is no care for the location or the guests. The room is also falling apart. The oven door was broken, tiles were loose on the floor. And it just looks old and dirty. I would not return here.
It has been a great stay. Everyone is friendly, helpful and courteous. The pools and hot tubs were clean, warm and fantastic! I would definitely come again!
A once quality time share is rapidly sinking. Carpets and furniture are the quality of Goodwlll cast offs.
Balconies have been closed for several years, no access to fresh air in the rooms. Appliances are from scratch and dent store. Clean linen and sheets. Pool guests no longer are required to wear swimsuits and one was observed to be urinating in parking garage.
Room doesn’t deserve a one star. Elevator had been broken to first floor 103 for awhile. Front desk said we must carry our things up to our room. The room was horrible. I knew of the balconies being closed to all rooms due to being refurbished but rooms themselves were old and dirty. The pictures online were from another time I guess No way was I going to use the w/dryer. Returned to desk for a full refund. She apologized and took care of it. How reviews are to be considered legitimate I have no clue. Hard to trust Trip Advisor after this. Went and booked at the Hyatt Place. No kitchen☹️ but perfect and spotless.
Do not recommend. Not a good hotel by my standards (I have travelled to over 60 countries around the word and stayed at countless hotels and resorts). It is not worth the money. Not a good location. Dirty and un-sanitized guestroom bathroom (Hair all over the floor)
The balconies are STILL not fixed, again this year. The entire place is filthy and has garbage laying around the pool. The pool itself is dirty. The ducks have to be removed. They poop everywhere!! There was mold build up on the shower door. We did not receive our deeded room upon check in, so had to move the next day. The staff did make this transfer as easy as they could.
