Pros:

The room was fine. Nothing fancy and a little stuffy, but comfortable enough. The shared bathroom put me off a little, but ended up being fine. We chose it because hotels in Seward are so expensive, but I thought it was still overpriced for what we got.

We enjoyed our stay at this location!
Pros:

Cute hotel! Convenient to shopping and dining!

Cons:

The room could use a fan. Maybe a ceiling fan or even a box fan.

Pros:

The location

Cons:

We stayed here for two nights, and unfortunately, both mornings we were woken up very early by constant footsteps from the room above us. The walking seemed to go on and on for a very long time, and the noise was so loud that it was impossible for us to sleep.

It was extremely frustrating, especially since a good night’s sleep is one of the most basic things you expect from a hotel stay. We were exhausted after two nights of being woken up so early.

The hotel itself may be nice, but the poor soundproofing between floors seriously affected our experience and made our stay very uncomfortable.

It worked for what we needed. Would pick another hotel if possible
Pros:

Location was good,
Staff was friendly and helpful

Cons:

Beds were cheap and towels in bathroom were cheap but price per night was double the other hotels in town that I booked for our party same night.

Don’t come here
Pros:

Lobby was nice!

Cons:

Room was very stinky! Smelled like urine! Shared bathrooms were not being cleaned regularly. Overpriced for that hotel. Mattress was old and deep in middle. TV has no Netflix or cable. Everything about the hotel was unpleasant. Not recommended. Staff are not helpful. The door was moving and making noise. Asked staff they didn’t do anything for that.

Room didn't match description and wasn't worth the cost. We would not choose to return.
Pros:

The room was available early and we received a note to that effect. The staff stored our luggage for us both at the beginning and end of the trip. The shuttle service to the train station was efficient both for luggage and personnel. The location was convenient to visit the museum and to get food from food carts.

Cons:

1. I used two different online access points (two days and one day before our reservation) to ask about the shuttle from the cruise terminal to the hotel. I received no response to either and we ended up taking a taxi instead, which the port agent called for us since we had no phone service there. 2. The photo of the room online showed an upholstered chair beside the bed that was not present in the room. The chair was the reason we booked this hotel and this room, for a great deal of money more than our original booking, which didn't show a cushioned armchair. 3. The room was also very hot and one of the two small windows didn't open because the mechanism was broken. 4, There was no grab bar to help entry to the shower/tub. 5. The sink didn't drain because there was no way to hold the plug in the open position. We used a doorstop to get it to drain. 6. We like quaint, boutique accommodations. The online photo shows antique mahogany-look furnishings, but those in the room were more like a modern IKEA design. All these negatives had us feeling foolish for spending so much for the room. We would not return.

I will continue my research to make certain others do not have the same bad experience.
Pros:

Very little. I booked three rooms in April. The hotel is in a good location, but without informing me, none of the three rooms that I booked had bathrooms! This is unacceptable. I have stayed in hotels all over the world and when one books a room, having one's own bathroom is STANDARD. Although Hotel Seward's sister hotel, The Edgewater, had available rooms with bathrooms, the staff would not transfer our reservations.

Cons:

See above. Having one's own bathroom facilities is STANDARD. By providing a sub-standard room, Hotel Seward was in violation of Alaska's "Unfair Trade Practices and Consumer Protection Act (Section 45.50)" which prohibits deceptive trade practices and misrepresentations. Had we known there would be no private bathroom facilities and that we would be exposed to strangers' bathroom habits, we would not have stayed there. Cost of the rooms was never a consideration.

The historic side should be a museum not an expensive musty dirty hotel room.
Pros:

We booked 2 rooms. One in the historic part and one in the newer part. The newer part was acceptable although warm because there is no AC and the windows did not open. I have nothing positive to say about the historic room. The front desk staff was lovely.

Cons:

The historic room and wing are basically the exact same as when they were built in 1905 with the addition of a tv. It feels and smells like stepping back in time. I have never seen anything like it before and I have stayed in hotels all over the world. If you had any sort of mold or mildew allergy you could not stay here. When I opened the door it was like stepping into a dark museum with the linens, curtains, dirty walls, furniture, and smelly carpet. When you flipped on the over head light it was a super bright like an operating room which highlighted the dated room. Also, when I booked 2 rooms I misunderstood what was meant by shared bathroom. It was one bathroom and one shower shared for the entire floor which is more than 10 rooms, I believe. I was extremely disappointed that we were not able to get a refund for the historic room. We spent $750 on 2 rooms and our family ended up sleeping 3 people to a full/queen bed in the non-historic room because there was no way to sleep in that musty and mildewy room.

In room hot water at sink not working
Pros:

This property was the only one available in town for the dates we were staying in Seward. The,property did have the 1 parking space as advertised.

Cons:

We booked two rooms for two nights, our room was #8 in the historic section. The room is small with two double beds on what looked like camp frames. There is no private bathroom, and we knew that, but the bathrooms were not being kept up, towels left on the floor (? Why no hamper), and an unclean shower. And to make things worse, the restrooms are next to and used by staff and restaurant guests.

Housekeeping didn’t refill the coffee pods in the room. The metal key to the room is difficult to use and turn the doorknob, and at times depending on how the key is turned, the deadbolt stays open, and door would lock- one had to manually turn the deadbolt lever to release it so that the door will lock.

On the first evening I turned the hot water handle on the room sink and there was NO water. I called the front desk, maintenance guy came up and suspected the valve under the sink had failed, and would fix it in ten am on Day #2. When we returned to the room on the eve of Day 2, still no hot water, and no message or note. On check out, I asked the Maintenance man for an update, and he said several rooms didn’t have hot water and the repairs would be complex. I asked for and received vouchers for breakfast at the sister hotel restaurant which was appreciated. The hotel really needs to address this basic room issue.
