You get what you pay for. I would consider this a motel. Smells like weed. Bring your own shampoo/conditioner/bodywash/handsoap. Online pics are very deceiving. Hotel is dirty and outdated. Restaurant is dirty. Pools and outdoor areas are filthy. There seems to be lots of staff and they are very friendly. So that’s not the issue. I’d say poor management. Restaurant was out of every canned drink we asked for that was on the menu. We have a family of 5. Room is tight, but could accommodate all of us. Beach is very nice. Area is sketchy. Hotel guests are sketchy. I would not stay here again. Crown Reef, do better. 🪳 🪳 🤢

While dining in the restaurant, we witnessed an employee, identified by our server as “Heaven,” loudly screaming at and degrading other employees in full view of guests. The situation was so intense that the restaurant nearly fell silent. My family, along with many other guests, was completely shocked by what we witnessed. It created an uncomfortable and hostile atmosphere that no guest should experience while on vacation.
Unfortunately, this was not an isolated incident. Later that day, we encountered the same employee in the arcade area, where she was once again yelling at staff, speaking to them in a demeaning manner, and behaving in an openly hostile way. It was just as disturbing as the first incident.
After witnessing this behavior twice, we asked one of the restaurant servers if we could speak with the General Manager. We were told that she was never on that side of the resort and that we would have to find her across the street in her office. As guests, that was disappointing to hear.
If Heaven is in a management role, I am genuinely concerned about the work environment your employees are experiencing. No one deserves to be spoken to or treated that way, especially in front of guests. Her behavior was unprofessional, intimidating, and completely inconsistent with the welcoming, family-friendly environment that Crown Reef strives to provide.
I would be surprised if ours is the only complaint regarding this employee. While every workplace has stressful moments, there is never an excuse for publicly humiliating employees or creating such an uncomfortable atmosphere for guests.
To top it off this resort was dirty and dated. I emailed corporate over a week ago with no response which tells me this is normal for them. Wouldn’t recommend!

Hotel is outdated and run down. Beds are rusty, floors are chipped and cracking, elevators are slow and scary. You can pay $25 for a refillable cup from a soda machine, except it’s never filled so everything is out. If you ask the restaurant about it they’ll say it’s refilled every other day. It’s not. If you ask for a refund at the front desk they say the soda machine is not their responsibility, no refunds, you need to call the phone number on the side of the machine. There is no phone number. The machine also smells horrific. There are vending machines for some drinks but be warned, the machine will charge your credit card and not give you the drink.

If you want to buy a tshirt, you’re out of luck. The restaurant tshirts are locked up, and if you ask in the restaurant they say only Starbucks employees have the key. If you go to Starbucks and ask, they say only the manager has the key. If you ask when the manager is coming, they don’t know.
Same for the arcade, as well. Most games are out of order, the arcade staff doesn’t always show up when they’re supposed to. The girl who was running Starbucks had to help us at the arcade too.

Everything is dirty. Don’t use the stairs. We were there almost a full week and the entire time we were there, the stairs had rotting chicken wings on the floor. When we got to the room, there was a mysterious brown stain on the toilet seat cover. Don’t want to know.

The pools are the only decent thing about this place. They are overcrowded and staff doesn’t keep an eye out to make sure children aren’t diving (they are), using the lazy river without floats (they are), playing with the hoses (they are)… sitting far away from the pools will still get you soaked because for some reason there are garden hoses constantly putting water into the pools, which children are using as toys. The pool is sometimes cleaned of leaves and bugs, the lazy river is not.

You get charged every day for parking, whether or not you park there overnight. The television has channels out of order and the remote doesn’t work. We had a lamp with a rusted out socket in the room that flickered and was in danger of burning (electrician in our family).

Staff is mostly disinterested - not rude, but could care less about you or their jobs. I don’t blame them; I wouldn’t take pride in working there either.

We’ve stayed here more than once. We only stayed here because it had the biggest lazy river, but that isn’t worth it. Will not be back.

Love the resort but there are two things that bothered me. 1 was at 6am all the chairs around the pool are taken..people do down and place a beach towel on the chair to save it for the day then don’t show up to the pool u til later. 2 no bathrooms, you have to go up to the second floor and use a keycard to get in, tons of kids and I doubt they go up with a keycard to use the bathroom. The stairs to the slides smelled like urine

I loved it my family always come to crown reef my grandkids love it love the Italian ice the only thing was the bathroom very small and we wanted to stay two nights they only had one room available but that was my fought for last minute

Location was great and really enjoyed all the quick access to everything

I can't thank you enough about the fantastic unforgettable moments we have had their with my family ❤️. we stayed their for 7 days from 7/17/26 to 7/24/26 in the room 712, the room was clean, organized silent, bright, and very equipped, the service was super, everything was really good. I really appreciate it, especially Mrs; Lorraine in front desk she was really kind, helpful, and with her counsels we added more days. Thank you so much LORRAINE you are the best ever I have seen in my life. My kids will never forget you brilliant smile and love you showed them. We promise we will come back again to see you and enjoy the fantastic places their.

I like it there. My granddaughter ran between outdoor and indoor pools and jacuzzi. Dj in afternoon was great Tuesday afternoon.

Darlene was great and so was staff at the loco gecko

Absolutely gross - unclean beds with bugs - unclean floors with mold / mold must everywhere in the building - awful service - food disgusting - when it pours front lobby floors and manager tries 100 of towels in front door as a fix - place should be shutdown - when we left early staff says we couldn’t refund because we didn’t have 3 room keys /

Location is only good thing about this place. Dirty rooms plus discrimination against white people. They have a bunch of kids running the place. It's a part of a corporate management system and needs new managers. For the price we paid. Go anywhere else.

Sophia did an Awesome! Amazing job, she went above and beyond! You can not find that anywhere!

We have not been back to Mrytle Beach since 2018 but our first time at Crown reef . But when we met Sophia at breakfast we felt we were back. Great service wonderful lady.
