Categories

Cleanliness
7.8
Generally reported as very clean in several reviews, but a serious negative (multiple guests reporting cockroaches) lowers overall cleanliness sentiment.
Service
9.5
Many comments praise welcoming, friendly staff and a helpful valet; however a few reports note indifferent reception staff and poor communication around billing—overall service is strong but inconsistent.
Location
9.9
Consistently praised: right across from The Grove and Farmer's Market, walking distance to shops, restaurants and easy access to LA attractions.
Room Quality
8.1
Rooms described as clean and comfortable and some spacious, but complaints include small bathrooms, limited counter space, cold bare floors, no luggage racks and at least one misaligned door.
Amenities
8
Nice courtyard, cool foyer/bar and valet service noted; lacks in-room coffee and had limited in-room conveniences (e.g., luggage racks), giving a mixed amenities impression.
Value for Money
8
Several guests find it good value or well priced for a short stay, but others were upset about high nightly rates, unexpected charges and a perceived lack of refund/price adjustment handling.
Food and Beverage
8.4
On-site bar and lobby coffee available (but limited timing); excellent nearby dining (Farmer’s Market, Du Pars) supports positive F&B sentiment despite limited in-room offerings.
Overall Experience
9.9
Many guests enjoyed the quintessential vintage LA vibe, location and friendly elements (courtyard, valet), making overall stays positive despite isolated cleanliness and communication issues.

Pros:

Хорошее расположение

Cons:

A very special hotel on Fairfax Avenue close to museums, restaurants and the Farmer’s Market.
Pros:

We love this hotel and have stayed here a couple times when in LA. The location can’t be beat and the rooms are so nice with lots of amenities. We especially like the garden patio and the adjacent bar/restaurant. Had an excellent, relaxing meal sitting on the patio under a tree.

Pros:

Nothing

Cons:

The front desk staff when we arrived were behind the desk not willing to help just spoke with each other. The Valet Staff were nice. The noise outside of my room was AWFUL with cars going up and down the alley all night long. There was no help with our bags inside the hotel. There was no coffee when we went down at 6. When I called regarding the restaurant before booking she said there is a restaurant and I said we were coming in on Sunday and wanted to watch the Sunday night football game and I asked if there was a TV and she said yes but did not mention they were closed on Sundays and Mondays. In addition Valet was another 45$ and it did not mention self parking was not an option and I have a handicapped sticker because I got my hip replaced 2 weeks ago. We returned the Cashew snack in the room because they were so stale and did not have dinner. It was an extremely disappointing stay!!

Pros:

We have now stayed at Short Stories Hotel three times, and every visit has been such a wonderful experience!

A very special mention must go to Gustavo from valet, who provided truly exceptional service throughout our stay. He went above and beyond to make us feel safe, welcomed and genuinely cared for. His warmth, kindness and positive energy were such a light, and every interaction with him was an absolute pleasure.

It’s people like Gustavo who make a hotel experience so memorable and keep us wanting to return!

We absolutely love Short Stories Hotel and would recommend it to anyone visiting Los Angeles. Thank you to the entire team, and especially Gustavo, for another fantastic stay. We can’t wait to be back!

Very lovely accomodation and location
Pros:

The hotel was very nice overall. I would go back for the location and that traditional California feel. Maybe a little overpriced for the age and condition of the property, but that is LA. It would be hard to find a better location / property / service / parking ($45 USD at time of writing this). Being across from the Grove is a real bonus. The reception staff are lovely, they gave me a room upgrade just because and I didn't ask. Rooms have a fridge as well.
The onsite restaurant and bar also a bonus as it's not that hotel vibe, more a place you would go to for the evening.

Cons:

Price if you don't use booking.com as it's pretty expensive. But you can find sales / room discounts.

LA’s Hidden Gem
Pros:

This hotel is a hidden gem! It is conveniently located across from the grove and is a quick ride to many LA attractions. The hotel is clean and trendy. The bartenders were exceptional. We would only stay at this hotel in LA.
