Hampton Inn & Suites Newport/Middletown

If I could rate this lower I would. My partner and I stayed at this hotel in July 2026. We were out most of the day exploring Newport and when we returned we greeted at the front desk with no warning that there was a known significant health and safety threat. Since it was late at night, I jumped immediately in the shower and was horrified to find that dark brown water was pouring all over me, so severe that it stained my skin brown. My partner went to the front desk to alert the staff and was told they were already aware that there was a break in the water line, causing heavy metals (lead, copper, etc) and debris to come pouring out of all water lines in the hotel. The front desk was packed with people who had faced similar shock. There were no notices on doors, no emails, no texts sent. There was a single flyer left at the desk (out of the way, a location people would only go to AFTER they have a problem). Meanwhile, children were playing in the pool, people had been drinking from the tap, and people like myself were in the bath/shower when they became doused with heavy metals. We were told that we only had to run the water for 20 minutes and we "should be fine". We were told this AFTER myself and others had been dangerously exposed to heavy metals. There was no housekeeping on staff to clean up the heavy metal spills. Additionally, there was no housekeeping staff to run the water and tend to the messes created in our rooms when we were gone all day. We had to buy or own water bottles (which were not cheap) in order to be able to even brush our teeth at night. There was also no managerial staff on site to address the issue, so we were told to hang on until the morning. When we attempted to talk to the manager, we were told that there was nothing more to say or do regarding the matter as it was an "act of God."

The lack of accountability and emergency preparedness at this hotel was disgusting. We did not have any access to a clean bathroom, clean water, or safe food while staying at this inhospitable stay. There was inadequate staff on site to deal with the significant health hazard at hand. Not a single proactive measure was taken. This hotel also CHOSE not to install infrastructure that could have mitigated the incident, such as building filtration systems. The cost of emergency disasters and "acts of God" is covered through the hotels insurance; health and safety risks can be reduced with proper emergency response protocols, clear communication, and appropriate infrastructure. This outrageously priced hotel chose not to partake in any of those strategies.

I have been in communication with the escalation team at Hilton numerous times since the incident has occurred. Each time they have informed me that the managerial team has reported that proactive measures were taken and we were notified of the response. I asked for copies of this "notification" but was told that none exists. Numerous times I have suggested signage on doorways, email or text notifications, or having designated representatives at the front desk. Each time I have been told that these measures do not exist. When I asked for a summary of the response to significant health and safety hazards, I was told that "the only policy on place for health and safety risks is that the general manager must be contacted and it is addressed at their discretion." I have been waiting weeks for a call back from the general manager. I asked what the response is from Hilton if this manager chooses not to act and they said there is no protocol in place in the event that the case is dismissed. SAVE YOUR MONEY AND GO ELSEWHERE.

We stayed at this hotel for two nights. Everything was great about this hotel. Service is exceptional!!! We were welcomed in the front desk by Lily. She was kind and warm and very caring and accommodating. She helped us with suggestions and guided us throughout our stay. Always with a warm smile. Also the front desk manager, Reid, was wonderful and caring. Always warm and ready to help. The hotel had wonderful breakfast and very clean. The room was clean and nice and well attended to. Location is excellent. Near everything you want to visit. The only thing I wish was different was a bit of musty smell in the room perhaps from an old carpet. But it was clean. We will definitely be back again. Thank you for a wonderful stay.

Clean and updated hotel. Swimming pool area was warm and pretty - the whole family hung out in here for a few hours one afternoon. The weight room was nicer than many I’ve seen at other hotels. The breakfast offering was standard. Good location - could get to all of the Newport attractions within 10-15 minutes and the hotel had lots of parking.

Looking for a little relaxation and shopping before the holidays, we chose Newport for a short getaway. Newport is a phenomenal place to visit with great shops, superb restaurants and bars, and plenty of sightseeing opportunities. Unlike many coastal New England towns, Newport has a presence and life throughout the winter months and if you are dressed for the weather, you will find this destination amazing year round.

Located less than 10 minutes from the Thames Street, we found this location to be a great alternative to staying in downtown Newport. The choice was easy - stay 10 minutes down the road at a reasonable price and then drive to the shopping/restaurant area and park for the day. With it being off season, we were able to secure downtown parking in the Newport wharf area for $10 for the entire day.

The hotel is nicely furnished with a comfortable lobby and breakfast/work/gathering space. The front desk staff was welcoming (particularly on this cold evening) and recognized our HIlton membership which is always appreciated. Our room was spacious with a very nice bathroom and large workspace along one wall. Clean and very comfortable with nice decor summarize this nice room. The sleep quality was excellent with comfortable linens and pillows. The included breakfast was welcome and appreciated. Served buffet style, chafing dishes of eggs, sausage, and potatoes were waiting for us at 7 AM. Additional offerings of yogurt, fresh fruit, cereal, waffles, etc. met the morning needs of everyone in our group. For the price, amenities, and location, I cannot recommend this Hampton Inn and Suites enough.

I have to take a moment to rave about our check-in experience today! David greeted us at the front desk, and from the second we walked in, he made us feel like VIPs.

David’s customer service was absolutely outstanding, warm, professional, and genuinely kind. What touched me the most was how wonderfully he treated my children. He didn’t just tolerate the kids (like some places do); it felt like he understood that my kids are the most essential part of my world. That kind of thoughtful attention is rare and means everything to a parent.

Thank you, David, for starting our stay on such a perfect, welcome. You’ve earned two more lifelong Hampton fans in our family now! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Had great experiences with all aspects of the Hotel Staff, from the Front Desk staff, to Housekeeping Staff, to the Breakfast Staff, and Maintenance Staff. Everyone did everything that they could to make our stay a pleasant one. I would definitely plan on staying at this property again when I am in the area!!

We had a terrific stay at this hotel! It was very clean, and the staff was incredibly helpful and nice, especially Mike Peterson! It was our 30th anniversary and the staff gave us some sweet treats to celebrate!

Modern, clean, nicely appointed room. Staff very nice. Continental breakfast needs to be bumped up a notch to match the hotel. Coffee very weak and tasteless.

Great place to stay. Convenient location that is a 15 minute drive to Newport, RI mansions and Thames street. It is also close to retail stores, restaurants, gas stations, etc.
The hotel is clean. Beds are comfortable. Complimentary breakfast. There is a parking lot, a gym and an indoor pool, too.

Staff were extremely helpful and super nice. Room was clean and breakfast was excellent.
The only issue we had at all was that the shuttle we had expected wasn't operating but we managed. All in all a very good stay

The Hampton Inn Newport/Middleton was perfectly fine for our overnight stay. It was clean, the breakfast was good, and the front staff were friendly. We were here overnight, saw the Breakers Mansion in the afternoon and the Elms the next morning. It was no more than a 10-minute drive to each of them.

Was very good. Tub was clogged, but that was fixed immediately. Service and comfortability both excellent at a decent price. My wife is disabled, but since it was last-minute, I couldn't get an accessible room, but even the regular room was still accommodating enough for her.
