⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ THE ROOM WAS GREAT. THE STAFF WAS RIDICULOUS.
Pros:

Julie and I just finished a stay at the Hilton Americas-Houston, and yes — the room was nice, the facilities were great, and the hotel itself was exactly what you hope for.

But apparently Hilton’s real strategy is to secretly hire superheroes and put them in name tags.

First up: Jordan and the FedEx Office crew.

I was working a convention, which means at least once a day I walked into FedEx with the facial expression of a man who had made a poor life choice.

Jordan and the team saved the day more than once.

Printing emergency? Fixed.

Last-minute convention problem? Fixed.

Derrick standing there looking confused while holding something that absolutely needed to be ready five minutes ago?

Fixed.

😂

Then we discovered the Lobby Bar & Restaurant and pretty much stopped eating anywhere else.

Houston has approximately 47,000 restaurants within walking distance, and Julie and I basically said:

“Nah. Hassan and Leticia are over there.”

Hassan and Leticia were phenomenal.

Not “good hotel service.”

Not “very attentive.”

I mean we-started-feeling-like-we-owned-a-small-percentage-of-the-restaurant service.

They remembered us, took care of us, laughed with us, spoiled Julie, and made us feel like family.

And importantly…

GOOD family.

Not the family where somebody starts talking politics at Thanksgiving and your aunt leaves crying.

The family you actually want to come back and see. 😂

Then there’s Jason the bartender, who literally came OUT of the bar and into the lobby to help Julie and me find a seat.

At that point I’m thinking:

“Jason, buddy… you make drinks. You don’t have to start doing real estate.”

But he did.

😂

Meal after meal, we kept coming back.

Breakfast? Lobby Bar.

Lunch? Lobby Bar.

Dinner? Lobby Bar.

At some point I’m pretty sure Hassan was legally allowed to claim us as dependents.

A++.

Then checkout day arrives and Steven jumps in with our bags and gives us the VIP treatment.

And finally…

We meet Lari.

Now Lari’s name tag says:

VALET DRIVER

Hilton…

You need a bigger name tag.

Because from what I witnessed, Lari is actually:

Valet driver.

Traffic cop.

Air traffic controller.

Luggage commander.

Guest-relations specialist.

Houston Department of Transportation.

Emotional support human.

Professional smile distributor.

And possibly Mayor of the Hilton driveway.

😂😂😂

She was directing cars, moving people, helping guests, organizing luggage and somehow smiling through all of it.

We finally got into our Uber.

Our Uber driver watched her for about five seconds and immediately said:

“THAT woman works hard!”

😂

YES.

When somebody who DOESN’T EVEN WORK FOR YOUR HOTEL starts giving your employee a performance review, you’ve got yourself a superstar.

So Hilton Americas-Houston, thank you.

The room was great.

The hotel was beautiful.

But Jordan, Hassan, Leticia, Jason, Steven, Lari and the rest of your crew are the reason Julie and I will remember this stay.

You made us feel like VIPs.

Then you made us feel like family.

And again…

the good family.

The family you actually want staying at your house.

Although after watching how much we ate at the Lobby Bar, you may want to reconsider that part.

😂❤️

A++. We’ll be back.

Lovely hotel if you're not 'different'
Pros:

I do not typically submit reviews or complaints; however, after reflecting on these incidents for the last month, I decided to do so.

I'm a local and I stayed here with my sister for a convention. Mainly laziness with not wanting to drive back each day but also because I've wanted to stay here for a while.

Lovely hotel, great layout, perfect distance from the convention center (across the street plus there were 2 sky-bridges).

But they have an employee issue. Not all but enough to leave a bad taste in my mouth.

On July 10, I observed conduct by an employee in the breakfast area that I found discourteous and unprofessional. The employee was rude toward several guests and as I continued to witness her behavior- looked guests up and down, pointed at them, and spoke about them in a manner that made the environment feel uncomfortable and unwelcoming.

This behavior was particularly disappointing in a guest-facing area of the hotel. Maybe even more so as she was a Black woman (as am I) and she was doing it to other Black guests. Now, there was a rule to have a key to access this area and it made sense to enforce it but she didn't care about the guests. Especially the children that were quietly waiting for an adult after she denied their entry. Everyone was very quiet and polite but seeing her be rude to them and giving ugly glances to others was awful.

I would also like to recognize a positive experience. On July 12, Monica Sylvest provided excellent service. She was open, welcoming, and genuinely kind. Following the previous interaction, her professionalism and warmth made a meaningful difference in my experience, and I believe her service deserves acknowledgment.

Sadly, my sister witnessed a concerning workplace interaction near the bellhop and bag-drop area. She observed Edwin Chow confronting and following a coworker, Jayla, while she appeared to be attempting to perform her duties. The interaction seemed unnecessarily escalated, and guests were left waiting as it continued. Our understanding was that he was not her supervisor but a lateral colleague, which made the conduct appear especially inappropriate. We brought this matter to the attention of a manager, but I still feel like I need to bring it up.

Finally, while I support security staff enforcing hotel policies regarding filming or streaming in the lobby, my other sister and her husband (that were at the Marriott came over to have drinks a few nights) witnessed with us - behavior that appeared to involve pointing and chuckling at guests. Hotel employees and security personnel should be able to enforce policies without making guests feel singled out, embarrassed, or ridiculed.

I hope management will review these concerns carefully and take appropriate action. The hotel clearly has employees capable of providing excellent hospitality, as demonstrated by Ms. Sylvest. However, the conduct I witnessed in other areas fell short of the professional, respectful guest experience that visitors should be able to expect.
