Just back from a one-week stay at GoldenEye—after traveling all the way from Europe—we’d like to share a few reflections.
The true highlights of GoldenEye are undoubtedly its stunning location and many of its wonderful people. Standouts include Kalicia at Bizot Restaurant, who treated us like family and went above and beyond to fulfill every wish, and Pops, our driver, who brought Jamaican history and culture to life while pointing out celebrity homes—an absolute gem of a person. The bartenders and crew at Button Beach created a vibrant, joyful atmosphere, mixing excellent GoldenEye rum cocktails to a constant backdrop of reggae music. And finally, sunset at Shabeen—with drummers and dancing—was simply unforgettable.
That said, a few aspects fell short of our expectations. The food, in terms of quality, value for money, and variety, did not quite live up to the overall standard we had hoped for. The rooms feel a bit outdated, although they are fully functional, spacious, and comfortable. Additionally, the welcome desk team came across as somewhat passive and not particularly proactive.
Overall, GoldenEye is a place with a soul—perfect for easy, relaxed, and laid-back living. On our way back, we stopped for lunch at Half Moon Hotel; for those seeking a more polished, highly organized, and activity-driven holiday, that may be the better fit, offering excellent food at even more accessible prices. It is impeccably run—though distinctly American in style—and delivers a classic five-star experience as expected.
In conclusion, GoldenEye charms with its spirit, people, and setting, but could elevate the experience further by refining some of its core offerings.
it's paradise. private. chilled. so many places to relax
incredible staff Treshana on front desk, Kevin Aitken Donette Simone Trevor Andrew Aldrick Glenn. they couldn't do enough for you to make you smile and so helpful and adorable
loved everything
Food was great. Location is cool.
Hotel has not been maintained - it is dingy, old, and needs to be refreshed. There are mosquitoes everywhere including inside your room… bedding felt wet in the mornings and evenings … and rooms do not feel refreshed. Needs actual windows, and not shutters. James Bond theme is severely lacking - no books in gift shop, no pictures outside of check in area, themed furniture - a real missed opportunity. Hotel felt like any other old Jamaican hotel that needs to be updated.
Private beaches, lagoon, design.
New policy of not allowing tours of the Fleming Villa even when unoccupied. Unworthy of the name Goldeneye since it is no longer part of the property.
The Goldeneye property is one of the most beautiful and magical places I’ve come across in Jamaica. It restored not only our bodies but our souls.
Pristine natural beauty. Thoughtfully designed spaces. A rare combination of luxury and nature that does not conflict with the natural environment.
Beautiful hotel, wonderful staff. Would stay again in a heart beat!
The lagoon villa we stayed in was stunning and well appointed. The resort is beautiful and the staff are very friendly and accommodating.
Limited dining options when we stayed. Restaurants and bars were not open as advertised. There was little atmosphere, and made the overall experience lacklustre. A shame as so much was right
An oasis of calm and comfort
There's nothing my little family hates more than a vacation resort filled with concrete and loud music. Goldeneye was everything we love. Lush green spaces, lots of places to walk, pool and beach options that aren't overcrowded and extremely pleasant staff, who made our 10month old feel like a celebrity. Definitely saving for our next trip and trying to get friends on board. Food is a bit expensive.
