Cleanliness
4.2
Multiple guests reported dirty rooms, smelly/soiled toilet brush, torn chairs and inconsistent housekeeping; a few isolated reports praised cleanliness but negative comments dominate.
Service
6.8
Mixed feedback — several mentions of friendly, attentive staff and good service at the spa/breakfast, but also reports of rude reception, ignored doorbell and poor handling of incidents (parking/alarms).
Location
8.8
Consistently praised as excellent for beach/town access and sea views — location is one of the strongest positives across reviews.
Room Quality
4.5
Frequent complaints about uncomfortable beds, smashed window, outdated/poorly maintained fittings (loose door handle, gaps in blinds) and inconsistent room standards.
Amenities
8
Pool, spa and sister-hotel access are repeatedly highlighted as very good and a major plus for guests.
Value for Money
5.5
Several guests felt the stay was not worth the price due to extra parking charges, penalties and dated/dirty rooms; others noted good value for facilities (pool/spa).
Food and Beverage
6
Mixed: some praise for breakfast and good food, but multiple comments about cold breakfast and missing items (e.g., cheese slices).
Overall Experience
6.6
Overall a mixed experience: excellent location and amenities for some, but recurring cleanliness, room-quality and parking/service issues led to many disappointing stays.

A lovely spa treatment, nice room and a great meal as it turned out, shame about the lack of amenities and disorganisati
Pros:

The room was clean at the Suncliff, the view was great, the food and staff at the Cumberland were lovely and the Spa was nice. The room was lovely and quiet.

Cons:

A few hours before we arrived we were told that our room had been double booked and we were to move from the Oceana to the Suncliff. As compensation we were upgraded to a sea view. This was great and not a problem. We had booked a spa package and had planned to swim, have the treatment and then use the sauna. Just before we arrived I had another email to say the pool was out of order. On arrival we were told that the sauna was open. After our treatment we went to use the sauna and it was closed… very disappointing as this was part of the reason for choosing this hotel. We had also booked dinner, bed and breakfast. We were told that the restaurant in the Suncliff was shut that day but we could eat in their pub. Not ideal as we were expecting (and had paid for) a 3 course meal. Anyway, went up to the bar to order and were told that actually we had to eat at the Oceana as that was where we were originally booked. Walked over there at 7:20 to be told that they had just shut their kitchen as they had had a coach party in and we would have to go to the Cumberland. Turned up at the Cumberland and they didn’t know anything about it. They were however very accommodating and the most professional staff we had dealt with all day and gave us a table. The restaurant and food were lovely. Overall we had a nice room and an excellent meal. However some of the staff were not particularly accommodating or even apologetic about the unavailable facilities or lack of communication regarding our meal. .

Stay away
Pros:

Location and staff were friendly.

Cons:

Very thin bedding, very cold during the night. Ordered a pizza at the desk. I had to come back down to collect it. Probably the worst pizza I’ve ever seen. Pick up a slice and all the sloppy sauce base a cheese slid off, couldn’t eat it. Left it in the bathroom all night.
Carpet and furniture looked tired, as did the remote for the TV I had to call front desk to send someone up to get the TV turned on.
I suppose that’s what you get for £57 a night.
The photos on booking ,com look inviting book in reality very poor,

Pros:

We liked the location. The beds were comfortable.
Tea and coffee provided.
There is a lift.

Cons:

The staff were miserable from the start, we felt like walking away from the first check-in. No welcome, no smile.
First walking in it looked very modern but it is very tired, especially our room.
The bathroom door didn't shut. The toilet took several times to flush.
The shower , over the bath, had a curtain which had to cover the taps to stop the water going onto the floor, so could not access the taps easily. The curtain stuck to us.
Our TV was not watchable, we missed our favourite programmes. Outside our room was cables everywhere that didn't give an impression of the place being looked after to us.
There had been repairs but not finished to an acceptable standard.
The chairs in the lounge bar area needed a clean.
Overall the decor needed refreshing in areas.
We left one night early.
We did over hear a conversation, argument with another guest about some damage accident that happened to a wall in his room. He had repaired it with polyfilla. But they charged him another night to pay for putting it right, it had to be painted. I don't know the full story but if correct I think this is out of order as accidents happen.
The hotel next door is lovely, they are sister hotels. They offered us a room there, gave us tea and toast. The carvery in the sister hotel is lovely.

Cons:

I am very dissatisfied with my stay at your hotel.

The room was very cold, and the radiator stopped working from that day onwards. As a result, I became ill.

In addition, the water pressure in the shower was very low, which made showering uncomfortable.

To make matters worse, I was charged an extra £10 when checking out, which I was not happy about.

Overall, my experience was very disappointing. I would appreciate an explanation for these issues and a refund of the additional £10 charged to me.
