The cost
Unfortunately, our trip to Virginia Beach was a night shorter than planned due to an emergency landing on our way to Norfolk and a subsequent overnight delay that caused us to lose a whole night/day at the Four Points Sheraton where we were staying. That is where this review begins. As soon as I was told by our airline that we would not be making it to Norfolk until the next day, I called the hotel to inform them and ask if it would be possible for them to refund one of the nights of our stay due to the delay. A note was made in our account and a promise was made that a manager would speak to us when we arrived about potential compensation. However, only a few minutes later, after I hung up and was trying to make other last minute arrangements, a different person from the hotel called me back for an unexplainable reason. He basically confirmed everything I had just said to his colleague a few minutes earler. It was an unnecessary and unfortunately timed call in a stressful moment. Upon our arrival the next day, I asked the manager to extend grace and refund us for the unused night as we ended up having to unexpectedly pay for a night at a hotel in another city due to airline issues. The manager did not speak to me directly, but relayed the message through an employee that they had chosen not to go against policy and would not be giving me a type of refund for the unused night. I was disappointed as I know from experience that managers have the authority to give these refunds in extenuating circumstances. Once we got checked in, we went to the elevator to go up to our room, but were greeted with a long line of people waiting due to the fact that only one of the two elevators was working. After waiting quite a while, we decided to carry our luggage up the stairs and found several fire hazards in the stairwell - rolled up rugs and stack of chairs that made the stairwell seem cramped and unsafe. We found our room to be clean and sufficient. The bed was comfortable and the view of the beach was fun to wake up to. Our shower water pressure was extremely low and the tub did not drain even when the plug was opened to the maximum. Halfway through my shower, we ran out of body wash and shampoo which was really frustrating. When I asked the front desk to replace the body wash and shampoo, they just handed me the bottles and I had to figure out how to install them in the shower myself. At 9am housekeeping knocked on the door. We asked them to come back later in the day as we would be gone most of the day until evening, however we never saw them again for the rest of our trip. Overall, our stay at the Four Points by Sheraton Virginia Beach was really disappointing. When traveling away from home, people want to feel seen and cared for and we felt everything but that. Together, these seemingly small misses added up to a really disappointing experience. I would not recommend this hotel.
Good
The wait for our food was long. Even though the restaurant was not busy.
The front desk was fantastic. I arrived earlier than my 4:00 check-in time. They had an available room and got us in early. We returned with some takeout food later and forgot eating utensils. The front desk came through again with what we needed. I appreciate the little things.
One of the elevators was not working so we ended up using the stairs a lot. Things like that can’t be helped. I’m in the service industry and understand. That was the only thing that prevented this from being a perfect stay.
No freezer in room.
Good staff
Ocean front view and the shower. Also, the smell when you enter the hotel was WONDERFUL!
We were put on the second floor very close to the cafe and it was very loud. I did ask to be move to a higher floor and they took care of that.
Booking canceled one day prior to arrival. Called customer service and was told they cancelled and couldn’t give a reason. Customer service lady stated best thing we could do is try and book somewhere else due to no availability
Clean, cozy, a home away from home, love the decor.
Toilet very low. Had to told on the wall to get up.
The mattress was comfortable. There was a balcony overlooking the ocean. Having a refrigerator was great.
They seemed to be having a lot of maintenance issues. The carpet was soaking wet from the AC. So much so that my daughter slipped on the tile after walking on the carpet because her shoes were so wet. Maintenance took care of the AC & put an industrial fan to dry the carpet. However it took 2 days for it to dry & in the interim we had to be cautious about slipping.
The staff was friendly.
The elevator was broken, the hallways had a bad smell, the room wasn't what I had booked, and the extra breakfast I paid for did not include my whole family even when at booking said it did.
Oceanfront front view
The 1 parking spaces per room. As that's not mentioned during the booking. & the room is outdated.
