Location, the beds! Very quiet hotel, service was outstanding. Everything very good. 😊
All talk, no walking the talk. Excuses!
Room not cleaned - Housekeeping arrived at 8:50am to clean (5:50am in California, my time). Sent away and we called at 11am for cleaning...we left...returned exhausted from 97 degree weather at 9pm-room was never cleaned. We were told they were "too busy, but that's not an excuse" - of course it's an excuse. Because jetlag, we requested cleaning after 11am (8am our time), and were told they can only guarantee first thing in the morning!!!
Almost no drawers in room for clothes. Safe in closet takes up 1/2 the closet.
Allegedly dial "O" for all needs. Got transferred to Room Service, and got voicemail to leave s message.
Booked through American Express FHR program offering room upgrade. Upon arrival we were told no complimentary upgrades were available, but could be upgraded for $190 more per night. Felt slimy.
Concierge, Jennifer, has been excellent!
it’s a nice experience if you’re using your American Express FHR Hotel Credit! You can maximize all of the perks and benefits.
It pains me to write this but I am in shock. This hotel is not up to the Salamander standards. I was so disappointed. As I walked into the unattractive small lobby with the tiny bar/restaurant, I could not believe it. I was expecting Class, style, elegance, and excellence. No! I stayed at a 3 star hotel in an awesome location. There is no real hotel restaurant, except Dogon which was pure excellence. After staying many times at Salamander resort in Middleburg, I was so excited to stay at the DC location. I feel like crying it was so bland, with unloved rooms and a dirty balcony with many spider webs and no cushions on the chairs, for a balcony suite that cost over a thousand dollars a night. I was happy to pay because it was Salamander and I knew it was going to be amazing. The business center computers did not work, cords were hanging everywhere. I couldn't believe it. Lastly, the room service was horrible and the chef and room service manager was very rude. My lamb came to me raw and I asked for medium well. The spa looked nice. I would not stay there again if they gave it to me for free. Trust me I paid a big bill for a horrible stay. The front desk staff were amazing. The valet was upcharging for valet service. They charged my guest $96 and $86 because they didn't know what the valet fee cost. No class. I came to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the African American Museum, and my stay here made an otherwise great trip very stressful and sad. I would've left but, I could not receive a refund for my two night stay. I have pictures, I just don't have the heart to show them online, but management saw the pictures.
I had a great stay at the Salamander! From check-in to check-out.. zero issues. Room was clean and quiet. I had an actual adult tub! Naturally, I went right down to the spa to buy bath salts. (Tip for those with Resy credit benefits on your CC- this triggered a Resy credit.)
My highlight was the night I had dinner at the hotel restaurant. Simple food -chicken, mashed potatoes, broccolini- prepared so well. It was the best meal for the cost I had in DC that week. My server was Elsa and she was ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️. Truly went above and beyond and saved this girl after a rough work week. Thank you for care, Elsa!
Every staff member I came across was helpful and pleasant ( shout out to Tavi and I wish I got the name of the person who checked me in on Tuesday afternoon- she as great too!)
Easy walk to the Wharf and over to the Jefferson Memorial, surrounding parks, and the rest of the National Mall.
I wholeheartedly recommend staying at the Salamander!!
I booked the Salamander for a solo staycation for my birthday and had an amazing time from the very start. Mr. Jeremy Edwards was such a pleasure when he checked me in. I used my Amex Platinum benefit guaranteeing early check-in, late check-out and room upgrade if available. Jeremy upgraded me to a BEAUTIFUL suite room which was a wonderful birthday gift. I ordered room service using my $100 property credit and the food and presentation was great. Upon check-out Jeremy checked on me again to ensure I enjoyed my stay. LaNetra checked me out and was great as well. The customer service in the hotel is unmatched. Thank you to everyone but especially Jeremy and LaNetra for ensuring a smooth check-in/out. I will definitely be returning in the near future.
I had a wonderful stay at the DC Salamander. You’re treated like royalty. LaDownah at the front desk was very helpful and sweet. Room service was great and my room was lovely and comfortable. All that combined it was a lovely stay.
This is the second time we have stayed here and we have stayed at the sister property in Middleburg, VA. What makes this place so special in addition to the beautiful rooms, comfy beds and immaculate housekeeping staff are the people. On this stay Endi was serving in the bar/lounge for dinner and again at breakfast. He was always attentive and very kind. Front desk and brownie room service, valet guys and really everyone. Top notch hires. The best staff :). Everyone makes you feel so welcome!
This hotel feels like a 5 star hotel. A very nice experience, would love to go back.
My family and I had a great experience at the Salamander Washington DC and would definitely stay here again. The hotel is beautiful, well maintained, and the overall atmosphere made for a very enjoyable stay.
The rooms were comfortable, the amenities were excellent, and the staff provided outstanding service throughout our visit. The breakfast buffet is a must! We especially enjoyed the heated indoor pool and appreciated the convenient location, which made it easy to explore Washington, DC.
Considering the quality of the property, service, and amenities, we felt the value was very good. I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the DC area, whether for business or leisure. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and look forward to returning in the future!
mediocre experience. The scale in the bathroom doesn't work. It took a very long time to get a vanity kit. I called a few weeks ago and was told that house car can pick me up at metro center or galleria-chinatown, but on the day I was told the house car only drops off at smithsonian and l'enfant and no pick up. Then the first call gave wrong info. The hotel has a good location for tourists, but not an impressive experience overall.
Great place to stay, elegant, close to everything, walkable, they treat you like royalty, they give you the full experience
Ahmed is a treasure. The property and its staff are stellar.
Beautiful hotel. The lobby and outdoor patio were everything you’d expect from a five-star property. The food, however, left something to be desired. The continental breakfast did not live up to expectations as we felt it could have had better food.
The service, on the other hand, was excellent. We especially want to credit Gonzalo for handling our laundry situation. He followed up and made sure we got everything back. 5 stars on that front.
Overall, if we could give the place a 4.5 stars, we would. Just don’t expect much from the breakfast.
We did a staycation weekend at Salamander from Northern VA and had a great time. The location is convenient to both the wharf and the tidal basin with a pedestrian bridge making it easy to walk places.
Our stay was made by Nate. He is a bell hop that helped us from beginning to end of our stay. He was warm and friendly and made us and our dog feel welcome. I would definitely come back again!
Gonzalo and his team welcomed me as soon as I walked in with 5-star service and smiles.
He offered to assist throughout my stay and provided an exceptional experience.
The hotel is awesome and has an incredible staff.
Wonderful hotel to celebrate my birthday with my family. Friendliest staff all throughout- Hermann during check in, Tamarra during dinner and Lisa at breakfast. Great location so close to the Wharf and Jefferson Memorial. Breakfast buffet was so delicious. Thank you so much.
The service at Salamander DC was spectacular. From check-in to baggage claim, Dogon restaurant, the house driver, baggage claim and everything in between.
In particular, those who made our service exceptional were:
- Tavi/Tavita - Genuine service, warm welcome, recs for dinner at Dogon, tips for spa. Saw us later in the evening and followed up on our spa and dinner. Made our stay extra special!
- Jawid - House driver. So pleasant to chat with Jawid. Professional, courteous, well mannered and safe driver. Such a pleasure to travel with you!
- Lanetra - Beautiful smile, took care of us, great humor and made our day by making us laugh. A wonderful positive spirit!
- Thank you Nate and Jeremy at the front desk/concierge desk! Appreciate your help and personality professionalism.
I went for a spa day with my friends and had a massage with Taquita. She is fantastic. I felt as if I was floating. I highly recommend a spa day.
My room was $399 a night. I’ve stayed here before and chose this hotel over cheaper options. The room was dirty with old food in the floor and in the chair and a wad of leftover
hair in the shower and on the floor in the bathroom. I asked for deep clean and the room was still dirty, so I complained to the GM and the room was still dirty. Housekeep half cleaned the room, which was very disappointing. Last year I rated the hotel a 5, not sure if I will return. The location is fantastic, and Ziad and Muhammad in the lobby bar are great. The yuca fries in the lobby bar were great.
