Courtyard by Marriott Stamford Downtown

Hotel was fine and the location was very walkable, but the accommodations were average and our experience with the valet was extremely disappointing.

When we checked out, our car was returned covered in bird droppings—not just a few spots, but an absurd amount. I tried to take photos so I could document the condition of the car and provide feedback to the hotel. The valet attendant, Raul, told me this is an ongoing issue and happens all the time.

One of the other valet attendants got directly in my face and told me that if I could take photos, I could clean the car. He tried to hand me a spray bottle and paper towels and repeatedly told me to clean the car myself. We never asked the valet to clean the car. I simply wanted to document what Raul had just told me was apparently a recurring issue for guests.

When I tried to speak with Raul and asked him to intervene, the other attendant began yelling. The entire interaction became unnecessarily confrontational and completely disproportionate to the situation.

Yuri did eventually come out and offer us some hotel points, which I appreciated, but I left the interaction genuinely rattled. We pay hundreds of dollars to stay at the hotel, in addition to an additional premium for valet service. Returning a guest’s car in that condition is unacceptable, but the way this employee spoke to me and physically got in my face was completely inappropriate. Regardless of the condition of the car, there is no excuse for speaking to me like that.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this experience was far below what I would expect. The valet operation needs to do better—not only in caring for guests’ vehicles, but in how concerns and complaints are handled. Would have had better pictures for you but I was yelled at.

Didn’t eat breakfast

My wife and I have stayed at Stamford's Marriott Courtyard several times over the past decade and have found it comfortable, quiet and very centrally located. Today, unfortunately, I had to cancel our reservation there for the upcoming weekend due to the approach of a large winter storm that would make travel from our home in Virginia treacherous. I am writing this review to commend the fine work of the lady at the hotel's front desk who answered my cancellation call earlier today. She answered after 3 rings; did not put me on hold or send me to another line; and handled the cancellation pleasantly, in less than 3 minutes. One of my most positive telephone experiences with a hotel anywhere, ever! Unfortunately, I did not ask the lady's name -- she spoke excellent English with what is perhaps an Eastern European accent. She is a credit to the hotel and deserves commendation. Today's brief conversation is yet another reason my wife and I look forward to our next opportunity to stay at Courtyard by Marriott in Downtown Stamford!
