Location staff and food and drink
Two of the three cask ales were off
View is stunning, staff were very friendly
Bedrooms are clean and well presented but the communal areas are not! The handrail and woodwork around the stairs were particularly dirty as was the carpet theoughout
Stunning views, great location, very friendly team, good value for money.
Very hot day on arrival - room could have been cooler/cooled a little in anticipation of our arrival. No fan in room, so it was a hot night.
The location is brilliant, staff were very good, our room was spacious and clean outstanding views. We would like to come back.
The room had a balcony and was very nicely decorated. The bed was so comfortable and the shower was amazing . The staff were friendly and helpful. We had an evening meal which was delicious and value for money and the breakfast was very good choices and tasty. The views are spectacular and the character and history of the Inn is worth noting . Best Stay of our holiday .
Nothing
This place has an amazing view over Rosedale Abbey. Quite an imposing old building up above the village. Food on offer was good and the drink selection at the bar was fine. Bedroom was a good size but the bathroom is explained below...
Initially we were given a room which after accepting (it was initially ok) we found that we could not lock the door properly, sometimes it would work, sometimes not. Staff were contacted and 'tried' the lock, again it only partially worked. We were asked if we wanted to stay in the room and we said no. After a short while we were given an equivalent room in an annex building around the back. The room itself was fine but the bathroom was tiny, wholly inadequate in my opinion at around 5ft x 5ft. You couldn't open the door any more than half way as it collide with the shower, just one of the problems in this small space! However we stuck with it.
On our second full day in the early afternoon we came back after a long walk to find that we couldn't get IN to our room, you could clearly see the lock was in the partially locked position and you couldn't insert a key! As the place didn't open until 3pm, we went for another shorter walk and returned to get help. To be fair, the staff were very quick and with a few tools we were in our room again after 5 minutes.
Finally, we weren't too happy that our evening meal was around 80 minutes from table time to leaving for just one course. Sorry but that's not good enough! Also, we weren't the only one's to complain although the reason for their complaint in unknown.
The last point may be explained by the realisation that this place appears to run on a shoestring of manpower.
The hotel has fantastic views, you will need a car.
It could do with some refurbishment, we had a very nice 3 days central for lot's of places to visit.
Everything was good, no complaints.
Location
It was a bit tired in places and breakfast wasn’t that great.
Great breakfast options.
Good country pub.
Location and views.
Friendly and helpful staff
Only minor item.
Long wait for hot water to get to the bathroom sink and bath taps.
The pub is set in picturesque views of the hills.
If you were disabled you might struggle with the steps
Comfortable
No staff plus they locked us in
Gorgeous views from this hotel. A clean and comfortable room with a comfy bed. The food on the evening was lovely… Wednesday night special was a large pizza and a pint for £13 which was delicious. We enjoyed a lovely self service buffet style breakfast. The staff were very friendly and put the England World Cup game on the TV for us.
