Very relaxing place and the staffs very friendly specially Agnes
No air conditioner
Super relaxing spa resort. Food was lovely. Staff were really friendly. Beautiful gardens. We loved Joseph the pianist in the evening. We enjoyed playing table tennis.
It’s getting a little tired and could do with a re paint and new carpet in places. The double bed was two singles pushed together and the gap wasn’t comfy.
The reception staff were excellent and extremely welcoming. Champneys Tring is in a beautiful setting. The building has lots of lovely features. I booked a room for my son and daughter in law as a post wedding gift, and the room allocated was very nice but extremely tired looking.
I’m genuinely very sad to be writing this review because Champneys Tring was somewhere I loved for many years. I was a member for around 15 years, and over that time my family, friends and I have spent many very happy days here. Unfortunately, the Champneys I remember as a luxury spa feels very different today.
My son and daughter-in-law recently spent two nights at Champneys and, while they were given a beautiful room, the underlying standard of cleanliness was extremely disappointing. The bathroom taps were dirty, there was hair on the floor, pillows and bedding were stained, and there was dust and cobwebs in numerous places. The paintwork around the windows was also peeling and generally looked tired and in need of attention.
For a resort positioning itself as a luxury spa, these are basic standards that simply shouldn’t be overlooked. A room can be beautifully designed and furnished, but if it isn’t spotlessly clean and properly maintained, it doesn’t feel luxurious.
The other major issue, and one that has concerned me for some time, is the severe overcrowding in the spa. There are simply far too many people trying to use the facilities at the same time. People were queuing for the hot tubs, saunas and steam rooms, and at times it felt almost impossible to use the facilities at all. A spa should feel relaxing and peaceful, but when you’re standing waiting for other guests to leave before you can get in, the whole experience becomes stressful rather than enjoyable.
Sadly, the overcrowding was actually the main reason I eventually cancelled my membership after around 15 years. I would genuinely love to become a member again, but I couldn’t justify doing so while the spa continues to operate at this level of overcrowding.
I was also very disappointed by the cleanliness and maintenance of the general spa areas. Wet towels had been left around the changing rooms, bins in the toilets were overflowing and tiles were missing in a number of places.

Some of the facilities, although lovely, are becoming a bit tired.
While our particular room in the mansion was in need of some updating, we loved our stay and the grounds remain magnificent. We particularly enjoyed the evening menu and the spa facilities. All staff were most helpful, especially Agnes on Reception and Leighton in the restaurant.
Nothing significant.
