No closet door, too dark inside room, I had to go outside to put on my make-up because the whole room was too dark, no safety bars in small, deep shower, squeaky bathroom door, wobbly fridge.
Wonderful retro vibe with tons of modern updates and services!
You can get cocktails and hang out in cozy rooms, or swim in the pool.
There is a great food truck on site for morning till late night dining.
And, its a short drive to the plaza.
I’ve been coming here for decades. Property retains much of its historic charm. Love the hot tub and the 20th c ambience.
New management has done away with the great breakfast. Room needed minor repairs. Also…orange indoor/outdoor carpet??!!
Everything said on their website is accurate. Amazing architecture that makes one appreciate craftsmanship of the builders. It's a far cry from the modern hotel that you have to look at the name to know the brand because all the boxy buildings look the same. The rooms had excellent mattresses and other furnishings.
We wandered the property looking at the landscaping, going through the greenhouse sitting outside at the tables and chairs enjoying the evening.
The pool and hot tub are amazing. Too bad it is summer and the kiva/fire place in the spa area was shut off. The ambience in the winter must be off the charts.
We were doing a Route 66, 100th anniversary trip so it was only a 1 night stay. Most hotels, especially chain hotels, it's not a big deal to move on to the next place. We were actually a bit bummed to leave. It is one of the few hotels that is worth staying in for a few days.
Clean, cute memorable
Nothing to dislike
Close to my work , it was very different, but good. Historical vibe which was nice, cozy and quiet for the busy street it was off.
I was expecting my own little cottage the photos looked like a separate cottage. The parking is narrow, my room door was propped open when I approached to open the door, which made me uneasy, but room was okay.
I was told upon check in that my cc had been declined. I paid before arriving, and the person behind the desk realized that, and I thought that was the end of it.
Our room’s ac was broken, so we had to move and I was owed a refund for the price difference. She told me that *because* I had prepaid, the refund would have to go through bookkeeping.
Upon checkout, the person working that shift told me again that my cc had been declined. She couldn’t find any evidence that I had paid, let alone was owed a refund. I found the charge, posted, not pending, on my phone. She had me send her a screenshot of it and that is the last I’ve heard from el Rey until this invitation for a review.
There were some other annoying things, such as cones that threatened towing, but then we were told to ignore them. Missing dinner because we had to change rooms. Being told twice that my cc was declined. I work in the service industry and these are egregiously inhospitable experiences. I thought I was going to buy some stuff in your gift shop, but by the final conversation, which was not rude on either end, to be clear, just incredibly lame, I just wanted your hotel to be a distant memory.
Renee is the only genuinely good thing about this place. She’s an angel, could not be more lovely, helpful and gracious if she tried. Wasted there! However, the same cannot be said for the so-called “supervisor”, who chose to be an obnoxious and vile little madam to myself when simply asking why we hadn’t be given the room we booked (as advertised, selected and paid for on booking.com), and a poor guy who dared ask about the pool closure. Seemingly she was “having a bad day”. We all get those, but some of us can still make the conscious choice to conduct ourselves in a calm, professional and mannerly fashion. Photos look great online but honestly, it’s massively overrated, dated, shabby and pretentious. Not worth the money or the hype.
Supervisor is a disgrace, and badly needs a lesson in etiquette and put on a customer service training course. Perhaps meditation would prove beneficial also.
Great location. Friendly staff. Room was well thought out and had a great SW modern aesthetic. The grounds were inviting to wander around and the bar was a nice bonus.
This is a fun hotel with many amenities (for which you'll pay a resort fee), spa, hot tub, pool, greenhouse, outdoor space, lovely bar and live music. Allow yourself the time to enjoy. It is an authentic 50s-60s renovated motel which I love. Only reason for 4 stars is the water pressure in the shower (perhaps because our room backed up to the spa area?).
This is my favorite hotel anywhere. Visiting Santa Fe and not staying at El Rey Court is not the same- El Rey is an important part of my Santa Fe experience. I recommend taking a day of your itinerary to enjoy the amazing amenities that the hotel has to offer. The food truck and bar are incredible, the pizza oven hosted by Tender Fire is not to be missed, and the pool and hot tub are refreshing and relaxing. The property is beautiful with greenery. The scent of juniper and pine wafts through the air. The historic property is comfortably refreshed and feels like a step back in time. Perhaps once a stopover on Route 66, El Rey itself might just be the destination you need.
Cute aesthetic and entertainment if you need it. Nice clean pools. Nice clean rooms.
Size of room was small for the cost.
Cute, clean, good location.
Tv didn’t work, low water pressure
