I had a very pleasant stay at Mercure Paris Gare Montparnasse TGV.
The location is excellent, especially if you are travelling by train. The hotel is only a short walk from the station, which makes arrival and departure very convenient.
The room was comfortable and well maintained. I particularly appreciated the coffee machine in the room. The large TV was a nice feature, and the windows were very well insulated, so I did not hear any outside noise during my stay. The only aspect I did not like was the connecting door between rooms, as it always gives me the impression that neighbouring guests might be able to hear conversations more easily.
The highlight of my stay was definitely the breakfast. There were two espresso machines serving very good and freshly made café lattes. The fruit juices were of high quality and contained fruit pulp, which I really appreciated. The bread selection was fresh and sufficient, while the Danish pastries were small but delicious. The cold cuts and cheeses were excellent.
Among the hot dishes, the scrambled eggs were particularly good and well prepared. It was difficult to tell whether they were freshly made or prepared from a mix, but the quality was very good. The baked beans were excellent. The roasted potatoes were slightly lukewarm, and the sausages were not quite to my personal taste. The salad selection was surprisingly good, and the jams were clearly of high quality.
Breakfast is self-service, but the staff regularly clear the tables, which keeps the dining area pleasant and tidy. There is also a garden where you can enjoy breakfast outdoors, making the experience even more enjoyable.
Overall, I would gladly stay here again. The combination of the convenient location, comfortable rooms, and outstanding breakfast made for a very enjoyable experience.
The main area for improvement is the check-in process, which I felt was not well organized from a guest's perspective.
The staff were always friendly and polite, so this issue may not be immediately obvious to them. However, as a guest, the experience felt inefficient and somewhat chaotic. The queue often moved very slowly because staff were simultaneously handling luggage storage requests, answering phone calls, and assisting other guests. There was little eye contact or acknowledgment that someone would assist me shortly. The waiting line was also not clearly defined. I would recommend separate queues whenever more than two employees are serving guests.
We arrived around noon and were eventually informed that our room would not be ready until 4:00 PM. That is perfectly understandable. However, I do not understand why this information could not have been communicated immediately upon arrival, allowing us to store our luggage and start enjoying our day in Paris without first spending time waiting in line.
Later check-in was smooth, the door to the office where our luggage had been stored was left open. My wife attempted to retrieve our luggage and was understandably told that guests were not allowed to enter because valuables and cash were kept inside. That policy is perfectly reasonable, but it raised the question of why the door had been left open in the first place. We later learned that this was not even the official luggage storage room.
On the day of departure, I wanted to leave our luggage at the hotel for a few more hours. I was surprised to learn that luggage storage costs €5, as this is the first time I have encountered such a charge at a hotel. I was then told that the fee would be waived if I completed the Booking.com survey. Personally, I prefer to write an objective review after my trip and do not particularly like being encouraged to leave feedback in exchange for a benefit.
Note improve Desinfektion dispenser as the drops destroy the carpet.
Niets.
Close to train station and in lively location
🤷♂️
Konum iyi, temiz.
The hotel location is excellent. There are lots of shops and good restaurants nearby. Being close to the train station was a life saver, insofar as we were able to rebook quickly in person after our train was cancelled (heatwave). The hotel staff were professional, courteous and friendly!
Bathroom is a tad small. We couldn’t run a bath as the plug would not stay in the close position, and there were no face lots for us to use. We also had a problem with the electrical system due to the broken device at room entry. The problem was taken care of with a day and a half.
Rien
Pas de climatisation
Chambre vétuste
Hygiène passable
Vieillesse des équipements
Literie confortable
Petit déjeuner correct
Climatisation en recherche !!
35 dehors
Chambre vieillotte
Rien.
The staff were friendly at reception.
The hotel is well located close to the station.
This was at one time an up market hotel. However the finishes, decor and general feel in the room was that of shabbiness and in need of maintenance and care.
On arrival i found my bed not fully made up and found sheets, and covers in the wardobe.
The shower is in the bath which unfortunately did not drain very well at all, took over 10 mins to drain after i had finished showering.
The staff were friendly and accommodating
Rooms are small
