Not Enough Amenities For Too Much Money
Pros:

Staying here was not my decision, in fact I had plans to stay at a different hotel a small distance away but ultimately caved since I was here for a family event and figured I might as well be where everyone else was. That all being said, my intuition was right and I should have stayed elsewhere for a comparable price because despite knowing this was a rate influenced by it being peak vacation season, I found what the hotel offers to be WAY below the basic standard you'd find anywhere else.

As for the positives, the hotel is small and quaint and visually the rooms are nice with modern design and such. If you don't like trudging across a massive property this is ideal and if you would like to be away from the hustle and bustle of nearby Newport or even up the street where all the local shopping venues are, this is a cute, quiet location between there and the beach down the street (aside from the kids camp next door but they weren’t loud surprisingly). Room overall was clean and the bed and bedding was comfortable.

As for negatives, there are far too many expected amenities missing from this hotel to justify a price higher than $150 per night in my opinion, $200 during beach season at most. The fact the only safe is at the front desk is insane to me in 2026 when every hotel under the sun has an in-room safe. It’s also one thing to leave your personal belongings with the front desk staff but it’s another when said staff has continually proven their incompetence with other tasks they’ve been given. I knew of one instance where a relative requested gift bags be given to guests they knew were checking in only for them to never be given out and instead that same relative had to ask for them from the front desk later. Additionally I knew of another group of people who’s bags were somehow lost upon check in. To say you have a safe being managed by a staff who continually can’t get the jobs they’re asked to do completed doesn’t exactly inspire a lot of faith in them to not give away your valuables to any given customer on accident.

The lighting in the room is dark as hell outside of the bathroom not to mention the bathroom is missing a makeup mirror for those that need it. This is a hotel who advertises on their site that they are a great venue for weddings (the reason I attended) and I had to shave myself the night before by sitting on the sink and leaning into the barely lit bathroom mirror hoping my beard was even. I mentioned the beds were comfortable but the pillows were atrocious, I couldn't sleep either night I was there and I usually adapt after one night.

It seems they don’t expect guests to stay for more than 2 nights given how little storage space for clothes is provided. There's all this space in the room and even a couch by the window but would it kill them to add a basic 4 or 6 drawer bureau? I guess we’re expected to hang our socks and underwear on hangers or just leave half our clothes in our suitcase. The closet is small and the only available drawers are paper thin. I would trade the couch for a bureau but even then there’s still room for one as it is (stayed in a one king room and saw the two king rooms relatives stayed in so I know a small bureau could fit in either).

I mention that there are stores up the street (marshalls, shaws, cvs, etc) but getting to them takes quite some time given the speed limit and sometimes insane traffic, so it would be helpful to have a small shop of some sort in the hotel. Of course, they do not have one, there are only a couple vending machines on each floor but no place to buy travel size toiletries you could bring to the room in case you forgot or wanted to pack lighter.

As Ive mentioned I was here for a wedding and this hotel markets itself as being great for weddings. The wedding overall went off fairly smoothly, I’ll chalk up the hiccups to the couple throwing the wedding not the hotel staff who were great. I could see clearly that the hotel liaison who organized the wedding was going through it due to the demands and such of the wedding party and she has all my sympathy for sticking through until the end cause it couldn’t be me. The wedding venue out on the lawn overlooking the water also slightly overlooks the street but the trees and bushes mostly block it out and there were no roaring engines to disrupt the ceremony so it worked out as a good venue. The reception hall is a reception hall, plenty of space and a good venue for a wedding reception or a big event of any kind.

Overall I and others who visited at the same time agree we would not stay here again. For a name brand hotel charging $400 a night a LOT is lacking in the way of basic amenities for what should be a standard hotel and room. Yes it is near the beach, yes it is next to Newport so I understand price is being influenced by that. However, had this hotel offered commonly available amenities I can find at any holiday inn for half the price then I could understand the cost more. It is a nice venue for a wedding so if you plan to be in and out for an event like that then maybe this would be to your liking but for a longer vacation stay I would recommend trying somewhere else.

Pros:

Liked everything about it. We picked it cause it obviously had good reviews, the staff were outstanding. The hotel was not in the hustle and bustle of the village, which was a plus and it had a restaurant and indoor and outdoor bar included. The shuttle provided was clutch, an added bonus that hotel offers every half hour. The gentlemen that drove, were so amicable and knowledgeable.

Cons:

The corners on the beds, even though corner savers were on, they still were very hard. Can't say how many times walked into during the night, we ended up wrapping towels around the corners. Perhaps glow lights or motion lights on them would be helpful.

Summer in Newport Fabulous Stay
Pros:

We stayed two nights with a tour. The bellboys were amazing and had our bags to the room very quickly. King size bed was very comfortable and room was great, really clean. We had a side view of the water from the room that I appreciated. Room had a microwave in addition to a refrigerator (but no safe in the room). Toiletries were top notch but no shower cap (luckily I brought one). The heated saltwater pool was terrific! Housekeeping was excellent. The bed was a platform bed but the rubber cushioning on one corner was missing so a bit hazardous. Hot breakfast buffets, which were included with our tour, were really good and the staff, servers, service, all very accommodating and on top of everything. My husband and I had dinner and drinks at the outside bar which was delicious. And it was open late on this Monday night which was good because we were too pooped after Block Island that day to go anywhere. Bartender was excellent also. Then we sat at the gas firepit and really all unexpectedly lovely. They have a free shuttle that brings you back and forth to downtown Newport. Bathroom is large and really nice but has one of those half enclosures only, which I am not a fan of, but that is just my personal preference. Bathroom mirror lights were a fabulous touch.

Off the beaten track
Pros:

We had a wonderful getaway escaping the tourist crowds, but still feeling the Newport vibe at the Windham Newport. Only minutes away fromCliff Walk, Bellevue Ave and Thames Street, this resort offered a complete family and couples atmosphere with engaging staff, meticulous clean rooms, inside/outside dining, bars, fire pits, lawn games and pool.

Great place for a Newport Stay especially the Price
Pros:

I had to unfortunately be in Newport for the night for a funeral. Wyndham was excellent. I stay at all the swanky upscale expensive hotels for trips and honestly the Wyndham was cleaner, and treated me better than most of those places. Its convenient to Newport a 10 dollar uber to where I needed or can take the shuttle in. I loved it and will be back

Excellent
Pros:

Great stay. Very comfortable. Comfortable bed. Great quality and location. Very nice staff.

Cons:

This does not have to be changed because it is okay but … to make the experience over the top it would feel better if the transition area and the entrance to the restaurant felt more inviting or warm. It feels a touch too much like a super nice cafeteria. Maybe it’s the layout or something about the openness and the transition feels lacking warmth and inviting.
