The room was very clean and comfortable. Had a second floor room, which I preferred. The balcony was a plus.

I recently stayed at the Fairfield by Marriott Virginia Beach Oceanfront and wanted to share feedback regarding my front desk experience.
During check-in, I inquired about extending my stay for an additional night. I was advised to check back the following morning once occupancy was clearer, which I completely understood.
When I followed up the next day, I spoke with the Front Desk Supervisor, Mackenzie, who immediately stated that the hotel was sold out without checking availability in the system. This felt abrupt and a bit dismissive, especially since I had been encouraged to return and recheck. I also asked about potential rates if a room became available, but the interaction remained fairly transactional and negative in tone.
As someone with a background in the hotel industry, I fully understand occupancy challenges and operational procedures. However, what stood out most was the lack of effort to explore options or provide alternative solutions—even something as simple as checking for potential cancellations or waitlisting.
Additionally, when I requested a late checkout, I was informed the latest available was 12:30 PM. When I politely asked whether 1:00 PM might be possible, the response required consulting someone else, which seemed surprising for a supervisory role. Ultimately, the request was declined.
I want to emphasize that I respect policies and understand limitations, especially in a high-demand beachfront property. However, hospitality is about *how* these limitations are communicated. A more empathetic, solution-oriented approach would have made a significant difference in the overall experience.
I hope this feedback is helpful as the hotel continues to develop its team and guest service standards.
