Had a lovely time lovely and clean , the only resort I have stayed where the pool doesn’t open till nine , no shortage of sun beds and not one sunbed has a towel on it , I would bring your own towels as there’s are small and thin . The restaurant is nice plenty of choice ,
I stayed full board but as reviews have said also can’t believe you have to pay for water, £4.50 in restaurant, and pool bar £3.50 small bottle of water ,
Breakfast in morning you. Can have coffee , water , fruit juice , there is a notice on table in restaurant, have what food you like while your in here , if you take anything out you will be charged €10.
My last little moan when you arrive there is no help with suitcase , if your here before 3 your told , go round corner and put in room, then if you wants a long trip go to pool bar eat and drink but you have to pay , because it’s not 3 yet , it was 1.30 ,
While you’re here you have to pay when you order any drinks straight away so keep your purse on you. ,
Like it here not enough to return ,
PS if you have any room left in you suitcase puts some drinks in ,,empty fridge in room 😳
The hotel is exactly as it appears in the photos, not very large, but not small either. The rooms are nice, quite spacious, and clean. Although there is a balcony, smoking is not allowed on it; the hotel and the pool area have a few specially designated smoking areas.
The pool is large enough for the hotel’s capacity. We had full board, but honestly, I do not recommend this option. At lunch, there were only about 2–3 side dishes and two types of meat. The food was very limited in variety, but everything we ate was tasty. They do have a barbecue evening which was, indeed, very diverse and delicious.
A big downside, from our point of view, is that water is not provided at meals, not even with full board, not to mention juices or other drinks. I believe a carafe of water on the table should be mandatory. For all other drinks you have to pay, and water is quite expensive. Juices and other beverages are reasonably priced. Only in the morning is water, juice, and coffee included. For the rest of the day, except during meals, we bought water from the supermarket, which is about a 15-minute walk from the hotel.
The area is quite secluded and very quiet. The beach is about a 15-minute walk away, at least one of them. You won’t find wide, long beaches here, but they are extraordinarily beautiful due to the cliffs. There are few sunbeds, but we didn’t feel the need for them, as we fully enjoyed the beauty and wildness of the place. The water is very cold, but that is just how the ocean is.
For those who want a wide sandy beach, the hotel provides a free shuttle bus, round trip. We preferred to explore the more wild beaches.
I will leave this for last, but it is very important, and for us it was the heart of the hotel: Lucas, one of the staff members and, among other things, an entertainer. An amazing person, loved by absolutely all the children. My son,Robert, insisted a lot that I write about him, as he adored him. Lucas was the reason why we absolutely had to be at the pool in the evening, just so the kids could play together. He managed to integrate him into the group of children, tourists from different countries, despite the language barrier.
Thank you, Lucas! Keep doing what you’re doing! 😊
Nice quiet and relaxing stay. Good location if you need to relax. Some good restaurants in the area and a lovely beach at the end of the road.
Great pool and loads of Sun loungers around the pool to choose from all day.
Great food at the poolside bar.
Daughter made full use of the swimming pool.
Perfect location
Good atmosphere
Room was amazing, but we’d like a little table to hang up our wet clothes
Micul dejun, camera
Tranquilidad, buena comida.
Me parece caro.
Very nice hotel, clean and friendly staff. We went out most mornings till early afternoon and still there were sunbeds left by the pool. Great location 5 mins away from old town, marina and plenty of beaches nearby. We only stayed bed and breakfast so can’t comment much on the food apart from there was a good selection at breakfast and the snack bar by the pool was really good portion sizes for the money.
Download uber app before you come. It is much easier (and cheaper) than getting taxis.
Great family friendly hotel would recommend to anybody and would definitely stay here again.
The only thing I would complain about is the confusion over the free shuttle bus service. The first day we were there we went to reception and asked for the free shuttle bus to old town they said you have to book it a day in advance. No problem it was our first day so we got a taxi to old town instead. Tuesday we went back to reception to book the shuttle bus to the beach for Wednesday. Was told no we have to book on the same day (even though the day before we were told you have to book in advance) the man said go and have breakfast tomorrow and then come back and you can book it. Wednesday morning comes we went to breakfast went back to reception to book the shuttle bus and were told it’s already gone the next one isn’t until 4pm. So we had to pay for an uber. I think you need to make it clearer to guests when they book in how to use it rather than have 3 different reception staff tell you 3 different things.
Apart from this, they were very friendly and always greeted with a smile when exchanging pool towels or even walking past when entering and leaving the hotel.
Just back from a week’s stay at Hotel Baia Grande, and it was fantastic!
Superb hotel, great location away from all the hustle and bustle of the Albufeira towns.
Nice 15 mins walk to Praia da Coelha beach and Uber rides to the Marina, Old Town and Strip were around £4 to £9 max, great value!
Hotel was immaculate, the grounds are really well kept and literally everyday the hotel gardeners are working and pruning the lovely plants and tree’s.
The pool area is stunning, loads of beds, hammocks and swing seats, always space available and none of that horrid towel dash morning reserving antics you see elsewhere.
Pool is clean, large and just amazing for everyone to enjoy, there is a small child friendly pool and a raised chill-out spa type pool also.
The pool side snack bar is absolutely amazing for food, the menu is great and the quality and quantity of food is really impressive.
Drinks slightly expensive €3.50 for a coke and for a small water, €4.50 for a large Super Bock larger, I suppose that’s not too bad for a pint but in the Marina and Towns you can get a pint for €2 or €2.50 at certain times.
The staff were absolutely first class, engaging, friendly and helpful, the owners of the hotel were also really hands on and clearly setting really high standards, which is nice to see.
The breakfast was amazing, we only had breakfast included and every morning really looked forward to the wide range of food and drinks available, cooked breakfasts, breads, cheeses, amazing fruits the list goes on! Highlight is the omelette bar.
Highlight to not miss is the Thursday night BBQ evening around the pool, wonderful food and really well done, lots of traditional music and dancing too.
Room was spotless with a smallish but functional balcony overlooking the pool and gardens, which I recommend booking as the opposite side of the hotels views are just not as good.
There is an indoor pool and spa which we used once, need to wear a swimming cap in that pool, great saunas and multiple jets in the pool.
Not so good bits:
The family room we had was more like a double with a very small old camp type bed pushed literally against the bottom of the double bed, we have a 12yo and probably wasn’t ideal for him or us.
But the room is just a base for us and it wasn’t going to have much impact, bathroom was very nice.
The pool bar closed at 6pm, this felt early and basically meant anymore drinks were from the indoor piano bar, I want to be outside on holiday and the pool and gardens are so nice, it’s a shame you can’t chill out with a few drinks in the evening.
Also, the entertainment in the piano bar is really for the elderly, singers and electronic organ type performers doing the old classics, some will love it but it felt more like an Eastbourne Saga experience.
The little shop onsite is really basic and expensive, I would do a trip to the Spar stores in the towns and marina to load up on water etc.
I should say, it was my son’s birthday while we were away and the hotel gave him a cake which was delicious and a hand written note, wishing him a happy birthday! Really classy and much appreciated!
I would absolutely recommend this hotel, great atmosphere and a really nice mix of guests made it a holiday to remember!
Thank you! Baia Grande
Hotel staff have been Excellent. Hotel rooms and facilities were great.
Definitely coming back to spend my next holiday here in Portugal
