Booked this hotel as a group stay of
9 couples for my husbands 40th as it looked vibey, trendy & had what we wanted - including a pool and roooftop bar!
Pros
- arrived at 12pm and was surprised our room was ready & we could check in
- Big bed which was extremely comfy
- Staff were friendly
- Reception Organised us taxis easily every day
- Very aesthetically pleasing
- Roof top pool & bar which is was lovely
- Dark & quiet rooms so can sleep
Cons
- having to pre book sunbeds AND having to have a minimum stay to use them when your staying in the hotel I think is terrible! You book a hotel with a pool and expect to be able to use it (with a sunbed) included in the price!
- The food in the roof top was not great - very small menu and VERY small portions!
- You have to queue at the downstairs bar on one line.. rather than stand at the bar!
- The lifts - wow - where do I start, I understand the likelihood is due to security but you need a room to use the lifts and they rarely work! Not only this but if only works to the floor you are on so you wernt ever able to get to our friends room!
- Air con - did not work at night. Woke up sweating every morning
We had an amazing stay there. The hotel feels very spacious and as always the harmonious design is omnipresent.
Unlike the other Hoxtons we have visited, the rooms' floors are tiled and not carpeted which gives an impression of extra cleanliness, we very much appreciated that.
The bedding was extra comfy and the large shower very practical for the long cleansing we took after a festival in the desert we were in Spain for.
The AC is set to 19°C by default, I'd recommend a slightly higher temperature if you're not used to it but it's a purely personal preference.
The location is enjoyable, a bit off-centered you don't get the city's hubbub and crowd but you're still reasonably well connected to everything with the nearby metro station, numerous bus stops and city bikes everywhere around. The beach is also pretty close.
You get an amazing view on the city/Sagrada Familia from the Tope rooftop while drinking a cocktail during the afternoon (be careful, you need to reserve your seat in advance at the pool as the spots are limited);
There's a funky photobooth in the entrace you can make retro photos in as extra souvenirs (just a bit sad you get only one piece for 6euros as opposed to most photobooths in europe that produce them in double for each of you when you make photos with your partner);
The breakfast buffet feels very generous and complete for the price asked.
Shoutout to Lenny from the Four Corners restaurant who made our experience extra smooth and enjoyable while we were in a morning rush!
Unfortunately, I cannot recommend the hotel to you. Neither the location nor the service is good. Unfortunately, there were problems every day in the hotel. We said several times that we were celebrating our wedding anniversary and got a room right next to the construction site. Not even a warm congratulations on the wedding and other hotels pay attention to something like that. We were not even informed at check in when breakfast is or other important information about the hotel. Our room was not cleaned and we already had 3 pm. The location is far to everything. A huge construction site is on site which is very noisy. The staff is unfortunately unfriendly and discusses with me because I ordered iced latte and got it in the paper cup even though I ordered on site at the rooftop bar and not to go. So I would never recommend the hotel again or go there. Rooms are also not 100% clean and they always leave you 2 hours Wait if you need something
Terrible experience from check-in to our early departure (we transferred to another hotel after one night). There was a lack of communication, awful customer service and smells in the room that should not be found in a hotel.
I only had time for a quick drink on the rooftop before dinner, but it was enough to see why people rave about it. Small pool, really nice views out over the rooftops toward the sea, not too busy when I was up there around early evening. Wish I’d had more time to actually sit and enjoy it.
Room was a really good size for a city hotel, and the bed was seriously comfy — one of those beds you sink into after a day of walking.
Staff was great and the space is beautiful.
Room was very small leaving almost no storage space for clothes or bags which made it feel pretty cramped for two people. There’s also lot of construction outside the room and it’s in a part of town that makes it hard to get to the rest of the city.
While you technically can use the pool without a reservation, all the sunbeds and cabanas require pre-booking and take up all the space around the pool making it hard to enjoy spontaneously.
The building is beautiful and the bar and front-desk staff are genuinely kind they’re the only reason this isn’t a one-word review. Everything good here is despite management, not because of it.
Almost everything about how this hotel treats the guests who actually pay to stay here. The rooftop pool is the whole reason you book and it’s the one thing you can’t count on using. Guests get ZERO priority for sun beds; you compete with the public and with private events, and none of this is disclosed when you book. Over four nights the rooftop was blocked or closed for private events again and again. For the World Cup final we were told no reservations were needed, then walked up to find it suddenly “reservation-only” and full locked out of our own hotel’s rooftop. This isn’t bad luck, it’s the business model: they sell the rooftop to events and crowds, and paying guests get whatever’s left over.
It gets pettier. We had a 4am checkout for an early flight. They arranged a breakfast bag and an airport taxi then charged us for both. Not a single gesture for guests leaving before dawn. Even the one “comp” (a cabana, after I complained in writing) came only because I pushed, and the same rooftop problems happened again afterward. The apology was PR, not change.
Stylish photos, real Barcelona views, and a management team that treats its own guests as an afterthought behind event revenue. Book it for the rooftop and you’ll spend your stay fighting for access to it.
L’emplacement est bien
Le bruit des travaux
This was the worst Hoxton we’ve stayed at. There were simply too many issues for what should have been a premium hotel experience.
The air conditioning in our room was broken, making it uncomfortable throughout our stay. The hotel entrance is also hidden down a side street, which made it a nightmare for taxis to find. The hotel’s recommended transfer service was around twice the price of an Uber, so that wasn’t a great alternative.
The lifts were incredibly slow and unreliable, with one out of service during our stay, leading to long waits.
The rooftop pool was another disappointment. Despite being a hotel guest, you have to book a time slot and pay extra to use it. Even more frustrating, you can’t order the rooftop tacos—the main food attraction—to your sunbed, which completely takes away from the experience.
The staff were genuinely lovely and did their best, but the hotel itself feels like it’s still in a soft launch. There are a lot of operational issues that need to be addressed before it delivers the standard you’d expect from The Hoxton.
The room design was a clear highlight, with tasteful décor and an inviting aesthetic. Unfortunately, that was where the positives ended—everything else fell flat.
To make matters worse, we’re now having to chase the return of our security deposit. It’s been the full 15 working days since the refund was supposedly processed, and the money still hasn’t been returned. Instead of proactively resolving the issue, we’ve had to follow it up ourselves, only to receive painfully generic, unhelpful replies that don’t actually address the problem. It’s a frustrating end to an already disappointing stay and leaves the impression that guest satisfaction simply isn’t a priority.
Overall, this was a surprisingly poor experience from a brand we’ve previously enjoyed. The hotel has the potential to be great, but until the operational issues, customer service and post-stay support improve, we wouldn’t choose to stay here again or recommend it to others.
One of my favourite branches of The Hoxton, however the rooms are now tired and are showing signs of heavy traffic through the seasons- see images.
The staff are great and many have been there since the start, which makes a difference. The bars and restaurants are still painfully slow (I waited almost 45 minutes for drink) and menus limited and pretty poor, considering how amazing the local food scene is.
The worst part is that they are hiring out the hotel facilities privately. After check-in I received a message via WhatsApp confirming that the roof, pool area, bar and sunset area were all unavailable due to private hire on two nights of my 4 night stay. Upon entering on the third evening we were told that there was another private hire, which we were not informed about. What is the point of advertising all the hotel facilities, if these are hired out to the public? Also not informing us until after we had checked-in seems suspicious... see images below.
Very nice hotel with good service and vibe. The first hotel I've been in that has a fully tiled shower! Very fancy. The rooftop bar has amazing views
Retro up to date clean and just really lovely
Nothing
Muy linda la habitación y demasiado cómoda, muy atentos y amables y comida deliciosa
Style, vibe, breakfast, decor, bars
Paying for sunbed use
super hôtel, chambre confortable et personne très sympathique
c’est dommage que la piscine n’est pas en libre accès, qu’il faille réserver et avoir un minimum de consolation par personne - il faudrait au moins l’indiquer dans le descriptif de l’hôtel
